Dear All:  I think this is a critical point that we as HIV+ people, hopefully benefiting from all of the research done in foreign countries, especially Africa, take to heart and write your Congressman and Senators...even the president and heads of drug companies. Many tens of millions of dollars sent to African countries to buy drugs or start drug distribution programs to the HIV ravaged populations there have been stolen by the political rulers in these countries. I think it critical that we change our thinking and methods of monetizing these psuedo-programs to ensure that 90% of the money we donate or send in charitable contributions to these countries is used to directly treat HIV or AIDS patients. This could be accomplished by having the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders or some other multi-national organization (WHO?) be the ONLY distributor of drugs and the over sight of monies sent to these banana republics with corrupt governments.  A recent article by Greg Palast (Vulture's Picnic, 2011) verified that the dictator of Zambia, Ground Zero for the HIV virus infection of humans, stole $80 million dollars from that country's AIDS program and used it for a shopping spree and depositing the rest in a Swiss bank account. This is immoral and should be grounds for murder in the world court in the Hague, Netherlands. So many benefits of testing Africans with the more toxic substances used in trying to eradicate AIDS worldwide have been enjoyed by many U.S. HIV+...we owe them a very large debt of gratitude and should take every effort to stop this theft of HIV treatment money by corrupt officials in these governments. Please write the drug companies, the World Health Organization and your politicians and demand oversight on the distribution of drugs and treatment money to these impoverished nations. Thanks for your help. Be well.
