Klonnies Kause Kancer!
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:32:43 PM »
Dear drug fucked pill queens,

Quote
DOCTORS are being urged to rethink the prescription of sleeping tablets after a large study showed the drugs were associated with an increased risk of cancer and death.

Commonly used sleeping pills, or ''hypnotics'', such as temazepam and zolpidem, which are prescribed for short-term insomnia, are associated with more than a four-fold risk of death, according to the study published in the British Medical Journal's Open journal yesterday.

People taking more than 132 doses a year were also 35 per cent more likely to be diagnosed with cancer compared to people of a similar health status who are not taking sleeping pills, the study found.

 . . .

While the study did not show the drugs actually caused cancer or death, the authors said there were many known ways for sleeping pills to shorten life because they were associated with depression which can trigger suicide, as well as interfering with motor and cognitive skills, which can cause accidents. Sleeping pills are also known to cause sleep apnoea for some people, which can lead to heart failure.

(linkage ftw!)

Ooh chile, La Philicia better read this.

The word "klonopin" or "clonazepam" does not appear in the link, though temazepam is a benzo.

The other drug mentioned is Ambien in the US, and I don't take that.

The story I saw seemed to indicate that they believe the increased death rate from sleeping pills is due to the sleep problems actually being a symptom of more severe problems - such as diabetes, heart valve issues, etc. - thus, the reason for increased deaths.

At least that is what they said on ABC news.

Need I go into the difference between a correlational study and a causational study? Geez, am I the only one who has taken statistics?

Also, I take trazedone to sleep. Its some sort of antidepressant but its great for knocking you out. I tried Ambien but my throat/mouth/tongue got all itching and swollen. NOT a good sign.

Also, despite the feeling that drinking helps you sleep, it has been shown that consuming alcohol actually causes poor sleep. You may be out, but you aren't getting good rest!

Well I gave up benzo's well over 3 yrs ago, and never looked backed, however TRAZODONE works wonders, I take 150MG per night....your right, it's not a benzo

Trazodone is used to treat depression. Trazodone is in a class of medications called serotonin modulators. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance. Trazodone comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken with a meal or light snack ...

Trazadones rock,  I wouldnt be able to sleep without them. But it's nice to occasionally stack a few Benzos and a glass or 3 of Merlot, and maybe throw in a pain pill to boot.

OMG -- you queens are too much.  I mean, I don't have any big issues with better living through chemistry, but if you want a good night's sleep -- try some sex and a benedryl.  They are both cheaper and non-addictive............   ;)

Busting a nut does often help.  I'm sure it is better than Ambien.  Most people I know who take that are able to fall asleep, but awake within a couple hours.  I usually can fall asleep just fine--with white noise.  When I have bad anxiety/restlessness, I may get one hour.

It seems at least half the people I know take sleep aids.  My best friend and roommate takes them, along with several other meds.  I often find him asleep on the toilet.  I wish I was like the other half who are asleep almost immediately after closing their eyes.  My brother has his partner's parents living with them.  They've had to take his mother's Ambien away and give her one nightly.  She was taking up to 10 a night (I know, I cannot believe this and think they must be wrong).  She was sleep eating, falling down stairs, and I got several Ambien text messages from her.  In one, she was asking me to bring her a pain pill at 4am.  She sent the same message to my mom, who lives an hour and a half away.  She swore she had no idea she was sending us text messages.

That's one of the problems with Ambien. People who take it can end up doing things when they're asleep, such as having sex, driving, eating, etc. and have no recollection of it.

I'll have to try the benadryl and trazedone thing and see how it effects my junk. Given chubbies for me aren't that impressive (being trans and all) but still worth experimenting.  ::)
