Looking for gay friends in south Florida
« on: February 22, 2012, 12:59:56 PM »
and it's not easy.  I do have one good friend, but he is busy with his boyfriend and work and I understand that and we only hang out every other week or so, sometimes three times a month.  I am very shy at approaching people, and meeting people too.  If anyone comes up to me at a bar I will talk to them.  "m really bad at flirting at bars too.  I tried to be friends with someone who I knew online before I moved down here, but he wanted me to be his friend, but didn't want to make and effort to be mine.  That ended when he did not invite me to a get together, then called me the morning of it, and a week later lied and gave me 5 reasons why he lost my number.  In the end I didn't really lose anything there.

I tired Craigslist strictly platonic and that was  a bust.  I tried the personals here, but I don't post a face pic, I'm not out to the world about my status,  and one guy said he wanted to see it before meeting.  I'm really looking for a friend first and if it develops into something else that is a plus.  I don't think people really want to make friends on the personals here, and people do not understand that the basis of a solid relationship should be friendship first.  It would be nice to find someone here because someone poz would be a plus.

We have a Price Center here but they require a membership I think, it looks that way from what I've seen online.

So tonight I was supposed to meet up with a guy for a drink.  A guy that I met at the personals attached to this site.  Two hours before we are supposed to meet he tells me he had a few hard days and won't be good company.   ::)  At least he responded, but It would have been nice if he responded sooner so I could find someone else to meet.  Anyway I am still going out tonight for a drink.  I think the online world is full of flakes.  I am lucky I found that HIV support group.  It's better to make friends when you meet a decent person in real life.

I think it would help to post a pic of yourself.  I know it shouldn't matter, when you're just looking for friends.  But, I know I would want to see someone first.  It helps to make a connection with that person--the same way we meet friends in person.  Usually, we have the visual first and then get to know their personality.  I think many have the fear of a Courtney Love or Flavor Flav showing up.  Although, speaking by phone should give a good idea whether you're dealing with them.  Having said that, I fully appreciate why you don't post a pic.

Where in Florida are ya?  We just got back from there.

I have it in my profile what I'm not looking for which is no drug addicts or obnoxious people so that should keep the Courtneys and Flavs away.  I wrote a really nice profile, funny, and kind, and straight forward.  One guy responded just to say he liked it, but he's in Georgia.  I don't think people online are looking for friends anyway so I am gonna look in person instead.   I'm in the Fort Lauderdale area.
