Hi all,

Just a quick hello, I've just signed up to the forums after spending a few days reading through them.

Abit about me: My name is Alan, I live in N. Ireland and I'm 24. Diagnosed 1 Dec 2011 with cd4 500 and VL 250k. I work in pharmaceuticals, and spend most of my free time working on cars and chilling with mates.

Decided to start treatment early, this is my first day waking up after taking atripla. Fells like I've had a full crate of bud lol.

I hope to get to know some of you better, I can see that there are a lot of well informed and knowledgeable people on here.

Hope you are all well

Alan

Hi Alan,

Sorry you tested poz but Welcome.  :)

You sound quite relaxed for a newly diagnosed guy, which is great of course!

I've had plenty of bad days, including Saturday night with my best mate there was lots of tears but life goes on. I have a great group of friends that support me, including another +ve guy.

We where talking about it all the other night and decided that it is a double edged sword. On one side, you tell people to wrap up because you def don't want this (very true) and the other for people who do have it that it's not the killer it once was.

I prefer to liken it to diabetes. It's a chronic long term illness, not a life threatening disease.

I decided to start treatment early after talking to medical professionals and doing plenty of my own research and deciding that the benefits are over and above the negatives. I'm also very lucky that I can take the time off work because my manager is aware of the situation. She gave me her personal number and told me to ring or text if there where any problems. The dizziness has worn off my my god I just want to crawl into bed.

Welcome Alan,

When my partner and I started the Atripla, we also felt DRUNK.
Some mornings were hard to get out of bed!
With a few weeks things got a lot easier and now we don't even notice it.
A little exercise or walking seems to burn the haze off quickly.

Cheers,
Hoover and 000

Welcome to the forums Alan.

Atripla's never been one of my drugs, but there are a lot of threads on it.  Often things seem to get better quickly after that first morning or three.

Best to you

Welcome :) and yes, I also see it a chronic illness not a life threatening disease. and, you're very lucky to know someone going through the same as you, don't know what I would've done if it had just been me diagnosed and not my partner as well. x

Hey Alan,

Welcome to the forums, though sorry for the reason you sought us out.

You sound pretty well grounded, but remember we are always here to help and to listen, if need be.

Also, you may want to read through the lessons here. They give a good overview of living with teh HIV, the meds, etc.

Hope to hear more from you,

HUGS,

Hi all,

Thought it was about time i got my ass in gear and updated this.

So after starting meds at the start if Feb things have been definitely getting easier, bar one slight wobbler towards the end of feb, which I put down to work stress and stress about being pos and the effects of the medication.

So after near 3 months on the pink pills I've gone from 490 @ 19% and VL has gone from 5.39 log (250k) to 3.07 (1.2k). Actually that was after the first month, I'm due to get results back this week (results coming 1 month behind atm)

I'm feeling better mentally, bar the odd down day where I just want to crawl back I t bed, but everyone gets them poz or not I guess.

Health wise I'm having a few skin problems, a fungal infection that will not give up so might have to change what I'm taking for that. Tiredness is still a problem, especially if I've had a night of odd dreams it seems to take it out of me.

So really I couldn't be more pleased, I am just grateful I was diagnosed early and that it hasn't had to big an effect on my life as yet. I do find myself thinking to the future alot, about long term effects but they are bridges that will be crossed at the appropriate time.

Hope yous and your loved ones are all well.

Alan.
