Sorry, but I call that as a glass of milk. I've seen pictures of glasses of semen online and they don't look nearly that white and consistently colored/textured! Hot idea though!

If there was  such a thing as Superinfection it would start a new era of the Aids epidemic, and it hasn't.

What I don't understand is why doctors insist on this super-infection or re-infection theme if they don't have a living proof that it actually exists. I was actually scared about this and thought I could never have bareback sex with another poz because of it.

Sadly, doctors can have bias as well. They also do not always follow up on continuing education in the realm of HIV transmission theory.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

My impression is that this has more to do with dogma than with science (although, doctors not keep educating themselves might be an issue as well). For 30 years the message was "Sex ALWAYS with condom". So, the mere idea that in certain situations sex without a condom might be okay, just seems to be unthinkable for many people.
Not directly related, but I suspect that the reason why the Swiss consensus has not been more widely acknowledged in the guidelines of other countries is the same. It's not really about science. It's about telling people sex without a condom (in certain situations) would be sending out the wrong message.

I often get the impression that many doctors (and other health care providers) don't like the idea of pozzies having a sex life at all, never mind unprotected sex. I've talked to more than one doc who seemed really uncomfortable with the idea of me having a sex life - but only since I've been poz, never once before.

Well my first and immensely respected HIV specialist feigned ignorance about the "sustiva crazies", so, yeah, maybe some doctors have informational blindspots. My hunch was that he was feigning ignorance and wanted me on sustiva for some reason or other.....

About the "who can" and "when" for barebacking, if they KNOW the truth, even, telling the truth seems too complicated or they don't trust a patient to understand the conditions of the medical "OK", so it becomes ethically burdensome.  Anyway, using a condom prevents other diseases so its just as well a DOCTOR says use condoms, but maybe its cynical to justify that advice with nebulous "superinfection" risks.

As for Ann's experience - doctors who would just as well prefer HIV+ patients have no sex - that's about the worst cynicism possible.

That's the problem, doctors have been trying for too long to stop people from having a sex life, especially us, but it's not working anymore. I've heard a doctor say "We are all longing for an HIV cure now because then we can finally stop telling people to do things they don't do anyway". Especially young people, who are tired of being told to use condoms.

This has been my experience also ... until today . I had my first appointment with a new doctor and she asked about my sex life and when I told her I really wasn't that interested in that any more she said that was unacceptable and she wanted to do some labs and investigate futher . Its kind of been a case of you don't miss what you don't want for me in the last few years . I told her not to bother but she insist and said I may be missing out on something good for me , kinda cool of her when you think about it .

I NEVER gotten that impression form any doctor, they seemed to all be very knowable, and even my current ID-Doc say to me " your UD, and u don't sleep around, so I wouldn't worry too much about having unsafe sex with your hubby, if he hasn't gotten teh AIDS in the last 18 yrs. he's very lucky , and so are you dennis" the AIDS is kinda hard to get, and he'll have to try VERY HARD to get it, as I'm sure he's not"

I've gotten that impression quite often too over the years from health professionals all through the field - interns, nurses, doctors, hospital staff, social workers, case managers, etc. Shoot, back in the early 90s just kissing my aidsy partner was enough to send several into shock as they wouldn't even touch him. Of course the more homophobic doctors and nurses have especially been against any of my "immoral" sex, so the pozziness was just icing on the cake in their opinion.

That's awesome! She sounds like one-in-a-million. I agree with her - sex is good for you. Well, good sex is good for you. Bad sex is just bad. ;)

I've had four doctors and not a single one gave that impression. Maybe your breath smells.

And maybe your hide is so thick that you don't notice when someone is dissing you. :P

Besides Miss PeePee, you've always had your hiv treatment in rather cosmopolitan areas. Not everyone has had that experience.

Anyway, not all my doctors gave me that impression. My current one(s) don't and the ones who did, I no longer see if I can possibly help it.

Of course the more homophobic doctors and nurses have especially been against any of my "immoral" sex, so the pozziness was just icing on the cake in their opinion.

Yep, the doctors from whom I've had the anti-poz-sex-life thing from were always the type who disapproved of sex outside marriage for anyone, not just gay folks. They might not have said it straight out (no pun), but you could just tell by what they said and how they acted. I do my best to avoid judgemental fools like them, no matter what profession they're in, but particularly in the health profession.

I got this type of reaction more when I had a neg partner, not so much now although I've come across at least two who said "at least your partner is poz too, but you should still be using condoms". ::)

I wasn't whining. I was relating my experience in the context of understanding why/how some doctors continue to trot out the tired old superinfection bullcrap. Keep up, dear.

It's not like I continued to subject myself to such people and I'm here complaining about it. When a health care provider displays that type of attitude towards me (or anyone), I refuse to see them again.

Oh, and the people who live where I live consider themselves Manx, not British. Heaven help you if you walk into a pub and start addressing the locals as Brits. And the place is far from godforsaken - you're thinking of the Outer Hebrides. :o

Population 84,655 -- like I said, godforsaken. There's probably that many people in a 10 block radius of me. And they don't have bad teeth or projectile vomit after mixing lager and pickled eggs that have sat on a bar for a year.

I've gone out to the bathhouse a couple of times recently, and it just amazes me the number of guys willing to bottom bareback. They just try to stick it right in themselves without even thinking about putting a condom on it. I put the condom on myself anyway because I don't want syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia. I just don't get why the other guys aren't interested in protecting themselves.

You put the condom on because you don't want std's.  They keep the condom off because they want sperme, or just unwrapped dick, which mean something to them.  I bet if you stopped, and thought a minute, you could "get why" -- meaning imagine a few reasons why -- guys want bareback sex.

I'm glad I have regular fuck buddies. They really fuck the bitch out of me and fill me up real good and I can't say enough how thankful I am for that. We all need some kind of satisfaction, and if I am gonna get plowed that hard, I want my reward. So yes, I want my load please !!!   :D :D :D
