Did I get HIV or Herpes? Symptons keep worrying me..
« on: November 09, 2011, 04:23:48 PM »
So here's what happened.

One month (a bit more) ago, I had an encounter with a man. (I'm Bi) I had a condom on and received oral from him. And that was most of the encounter. However, near the end he applied moisturizer to his hands and penis and began masturbating. Shortly after, he began fingering me rather deeply and roughly. There is also a chance he may have fingered himself before fingering me. So I worry that some cum or some anal fluids was interted into my rectum.

2 weeks later, I felt a very slight, but noticable fever. Then a burning sensation around my anus, which I later realized to be sores. At their peak it was very uncomfortable, a sizzling, moist, burning sensation in my rectum for about 2 days.

My first thought was herpes. Many symptons listed made me think it was anal herpes. However, the slight fever did not go away even after the sores did. It lingered, I then saw a very tiny but visible sore under my lower lip. I get pimples from time to time, but this looked different and took much longer to heal. Also, there was a very unexpected rash under my arm pit, but it was the only such rash I had.
Also, I did not have diarrhea, but my stool has been abnormally loose since this all began.

After that, the fever still going, I noticed a follicle infection in my nostrils. Small, swollen, white balls in both my nostrils, it was not painful but I did go to the doctor and they told me it probably follitculitis.

So I'm taking antibiotics and anti-virals, as I told the doctor I believed I had herpes.

Please help, I realize fingering is not the way HIV is spread, but these symptons have been lingering for about a month and I'm too paranoid to let it go. Tell me I'm crazy!  ???

I agree with Rod, and the details you gave are not ones which put you at risk for HIV. You need to discuss your symptoms further with your doctor. HIV is not the problem. There is no need for HIV testing.

I agree that you have not been at risk for hiv infection. If you feel unwell, see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv as you had no risk.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPECIFICALLY TEST OVER ANYTHING YOU BROUGHT TO US, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Condoms are a girl's best friend

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Sounds good guys.

I only worried because some of these symptons match up with early HIV symptons,
The night sweats particularly scared the crapola out of me. But then again I have been epically stressed because of this.

Also, the pamphlets at some clinics clearly cite any contact with Semen on the Anus (non penetration) to cause infection. Is this just to get more people to test for HIV?

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

Thank you guys, I've been losing it thinking of ridiculous ways I could have been infected.

I think much of the material out there makes it seem much easier to transmit HIV than it really is. I mean my brain told me fingering just wouldn't do it, but my paranoia got the better of me.
Thanks again guys, still getting an STD check to see if herpes is the issue, but you guys really helped.
