Be Nice to Me, I Donated Blood Today
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:09:31 PM »
24 vials To be exact.

They'll be used to ensure quality control in disease diagnosis in hospital laboratories across the country.

The look of horror on the young woman's face in the chair across from me when I told her I was turning them into an art-work and would be exhibiting it at the Sydney Gallery was priceless. Her attempt to decline my generous offer to give her tickets to the opening was equally amusing  ;D

The clinic I attend requested that I donate also , they take almost as much from me every so often .

I was surprised to learn that most people that are asked refuse to participate .

I'm not very good with this, I guess. First time I had my blood taken for the tests, there were so many vials, that I was getting sicker every time he would take a new one. In the end, I went straight to the toilet to throw up. Last time I asked the nurse to pause halfway so I could recover a bit. Don't know why, but if they take a lot of blood quickly, I feel sick.

No Lollipops, just a glass of orange juice then I ran out the door as quick as I Could. I'm considered a "challenging" patient which is medical code for "pain in the fucking arse".

Having bloods drawn isn't fun I agree but there a couple of things you can do to make process a little less traumatic. Eat a low fat meal about 2 hours prior to donation and drink plenty of fluids. During the blood draw, don't watch instead do something distracting such as talking with the nurse, listening to your ipod or playing angry birds. Afterwards drink plenty of fluids, don't do anything too strenuous for the rest of day and if you feel woozy, lie down with you legs elevated until the feeling passes.
