Possible HIV Infection need advice
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:16:46 AM »
I need to get some advice on if I was at risk for s possible HIV infection

From September 7-14 I was in Dominican republic and had sex with some sex workers. In each instance a lifestyle latex condom was used. My concern is while inside of one of the girls I felt her warm fluids on the outside of the condom. I guess this is normal? I did not notice anything out of the ordinary when the condom was removed except it rolled up a tiny bit from the back towards my groin, but the entire head and base of my penis was covered when I removed it. I also received oral sex without protection. Let me say I also shave my groin and genitals quite frequently. When I finished having sex my groin area was soaked with vaginal secretions. Is there any way I could have gotten infected that way from an in- grown hair or something? I didn't notice any blood or anything when shaving in the shower and it was at least an hour or two after I shaved from when I had sex.

Since I returned from vacation I had a lot of muscle spasms in my back. I got super worried and was not able to sleep at night. I have been so stressed with so much anxiety but after talking to friends they have calmed me down. Now just this past week I have had been going to the bathroom more frequently and a little burning if any urine dripped on my gentile area. This is all after I have been back from vacation just about a month. So I went to the DR and he took a urine sample and diagnosed me with a urinary track infection and put me on leveuqin. He also examined my penis and asked questions and he does not think I have any STD's. I have to say I feel much better after being on the medicine only a few days. Is it possible the UTI that I am being treated for was caught in the Dominican republic from one of the sex workers? People I have been talking to are saying it's highly unlikely since I have been back over a month and had no signs until recently.

I really need some advice here I am sorry for the long post

We can't diagnose anything here or say when you contracted your urinary tract infection, which by the way is not an unusual occurence. But what I can tell you is that you have no cause for concern about HIV. You used condoms which is exactly what you are supposed to do. They provide very effective protection against HIV transmission. There is nothing in what you are reporting to suggest they didn't do the job.

Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV. We recommend that anyone who is sexually active ought to have a full STD panel at least annually.

As far as HIV is concerned there is no cause for concern currently nor any need for testing. Keep using those condoms everytime you have vaginal or anal intercourse and you will be well protected sexually.
