Here is an interesting article that was publish today in the Greensboro newspaper. It describes "the purge" of 1957 when police rounded up 32 homosexuals and charged them with crimes against nature. These were not men caught in public parks but consenting adults behind closed doors.

BTW, it is still a crime in N.C. for unmarried heterosexuals couple to cohabitate.

Thanks....that was really some news!!!  I never heard of this before...but growing up in North Carolina, it was my goal as early as a teenager to move to a BIG city where it was ok to be "different".  I guess that most of my friends from NC moved to New York. I ended up here in Philadelphia.  Not too big but BIG enough lol.

How tragic a story is that!!! Painful to read about what these people suffered -- in the land of the free!

And how much of this ignorance and cruelty is still a living part of our country and our world today. Right now there is a similar campaign going on in Uganda!
