roomies roomies roomies
« on: August 20, 2011, 08:39:58 PM »

okay so . . . I'll just say it
my roomie. . . he smells . . . smells bad
he smells like something died, was covered in chunky 2 month old milk, sprayed with sour lemon juice
had a horde of cats urinate on it, and set it on fire. . . .

I'm almost passing out just being near him. how do you tell someone they smell almost as bad as pepper-spray to the face?

any bad roomie stories so I dont feel as bad about mine lol?

He's not my roomie but my son.

So my 16 year old son got here on Tuesday and he has not showered once since he arrived. I tried to make hints, bought him some shanky teenager smelly stuff but he has yet to get the picture. My guess is his dad never pushes the issue. I need to find a tactful way to say something because he is humming.  I don't quite need nasal protection but it's getting close to needing drastic measures.

I've been tempted to like knock him out, and throw him in a little kiddie pool full of cologne or something
maybe he might not smell it, but I sure do. I've tried throwing hints as well.
like telling him it's so hot people NEED to take two shower a day at least right now and then I'll go shower.
but he doesn't seem to get it either.

let's brainstorm on how to get them too shower lol

When we were alone I would just calmly say "you need a shower". No hints, no innuendo, no judgment... Just a statement of fact.

Yes just tell him.

Who's home is it? Shared lease? This will make a difference if its yours, his, or shared.

If its your home, or shared lease, besides telling him to take shower this once, also tell him you'll have problems living with him cause he smells bad so he's got to be considerate.

Nobody wants to be around a stink bomb.  You have to be comfortable at home.  Also, other people will be grateful if he manages to clean up his act.

I like Man-Sweat.

Teh sexy.  Even more so if there's an alcoholic scent to their breath.

I agree with gymrat.  I would just tell him.  He needs to know, or no one's going to want to be around him, and they'll start wondering about you.

Man sweat is one thing, out and out stank shouldn't be tolerated.

Absolutely. Just tell him.

When I was in college and sharing a house with a bunch of other students, we had one guy who never - or rarely - showered. We all kept dropping hints but hints never work with someone like this. We finally all sat him down and told him together - either literally clean up your act, or find somewhere else to live.

He said he didn't realise it had become a problem and that he just didn't like to shower because his skin was so dry and easily irritated. We clubbed together and bought him a selection of body moisturisers, along with some dry-skin-friendly body washes, and we never had a problem with him again.

Some of the products we bought irritated his skin more (which we anticipated as a possible problem, hence buying him loads of different products) and those he left out in the communal bathroom for others to use. The ones that worked for him he kept - and kept buying his own supplies. Problem solved, and our roommate was grateful for our help in resolving his issue.

Another vote here for tell him.

People always seem to worry about "hurting the other person's feelings." Hello! What makes that take precedence over the stink the person is walking around and inflicting on others? Give them a wake up message. Wouldn't you tell 'em if there was a booger on their nose or fly was open or similar stuff in the social realm of things?

Think of it as another "one small step forward for mankind" is wot I say.

So true. The guy I spoke about above was otherwise a very nice (and fit too!) guy. After we helped him solve his problem about washing regularly, he asked us why we didn't say anything earlier and we told him we didn't want to hurt his feelings. He said if anything hurt his feelings, it was when he realised how uncomfortable he'd been making everyone (for a few years, evidently) and how none of his friends told him earlier. It's funny - people with offensive body odour often don't notice it themselves; I suppose because they just become immune to it.

I'll always have very fond memories of my time in that house with that particular group of people. I've lived in communal situations quite a few times in my life and know just how special that household was - we really did all pull together and got along great (the parties were out of this world, and often limited to roomies only). Aside from the body odour issue (which was resolved around late October in the school year), we never had any problems. A rarity indeed. I'm getting all nostalgic now. ;D

Philicia is a clean as a cat's conscience type of girl; she just happens to like vile, sweaty ruffians.  The two of you would make lovely roommies.

I've only had roommates once (back in '05-'06 while living in Vienna) and, as a whole, I enjoyed the experience.  There were three of us sharing a fairly large and nice flat for that academic year.  One of them was rather young and not very clean: she'd leave the kitchen looking like a serious mess, rarely ever cleaned after she had a night of debauchery with her schoolmates, and every once in a while we would find bloody things in the bathtub (I won't elaborate, it happened two months in a row).  We had a serious but kind, ultimatum type of conversation with her and she changed her ways immediately.  The three of us have remained good friends ever since.

Just tell the skunk in a direct but friendly manner and he will more than likely fix it --or move out.

@ Rev Moon, Miss P wouldn't like me, he thinks I'm a big Sissy, that's afraid of dirty ass-hairs, I shower almost everyday, and take a bath @ least twice a week, he might after a 9 mile bike ride or a 45 minute work-out
New Flash Miss P , I gotta be a Big Sissy about something, or I wouldn't be a very good queer if I wasn't , oh and one more thing Miss P, just make damm sure you wash your ass-hairs before you sit on my face :D

omg, thanks for all the comments.
I nearly pissed myself on some, but others were greatly appreciated.
so I gathered up the guts ( and held my breath. jk) and told him
gave him a nice snuggling and told him he smelled like dying man-gina ( that felt like the right description for it at the moment ) and he went to shower :)
hopefully it all continues * squeaky clean * from now on.
