It was just like a scene from Fried Green Tomatoes
« on: September 15, 2006, 03:00:18 PM »

My  friend has been in an abusive relationship for a good 2 years now...Well this is what she told me last night when she showed up at my door crying and bruised. I knew something wasn't right but the more I asked her the more she denied it. The more she denied it the more she distanced herself. I hadn't heard from her for 4 months untill last night. She needed help getting her things from thier old apartment. We called the police and asked if we could get an escort but after being transfered multipul times and put on hold for a good 45 minutes..we decided to go when he was supposed to be at work. I brought my friend James with....a 6'8 "thug" (as he likes to be called...even though I broke him down and made him a fan of classical music and ballet...go me)  with guns that could be classified as WMDs.

Steve was supposed to be working untill 11 pm yesterday night...well he came home at 10 pm.  We were moving her stuff out when he got home and he went berzurk. He lunged at  Mary but I hit him with one of those tacky plactic geese they had on thier porch. Well I thought it was plastic. It was ceramic. CRASH! BOOM!

He didn't black out but he told us to get the hell out of there before he made us sorry...well..that's when James came in and Steve locked himself in the bathroom.

I felt like I was in Fried Green Tomatoes. Mary is now staying with me untill she can move into her sister's house. She now has a restraining order on Steve but I don't think he'll be comming around her anymore.

I hope she makes it, and doesn't turn herself into one of those "jerk magnets" one hears about.  You put yourself into a hard predicament, and I would be careful if I were you.  People like that don't go or stay away easily, especially if they get drunk.  Those types have a tendency to attempt to get even with those who "took" what they "owned".

Remember on Fried Green Tomatoes?  He went looking for her (and his son).  We all know how he got his.

I think your friend is very fortunate to have a friend like you. With care and support such as yours, I hope she will have the strength and courage to rebuild her life. And yes, I can imagine that 6'8 "thugs" do sometimes come in handy, when they're batting for your side! ;)

Good thoughts and wishes to your friend.

Melia :)

The unfortunate thing is, that this abusive relationship went on for 2 years. I am glad you were there to rescue her. Hopefully she will be able to get on with her life, it won't be easy for a while.

As far as the X goes, well, he will most likely find someone else to abuse....( thats the trend) Don't hesitate to call the police if this guy breaks the restraining order. They will lock him right up.

Good for you...pity the Goose wasn't made of cast iron.. ;).

I agree with Ray, while your friend is now in safe hands..some other poor soul will only take her place and suffer the same abuse.

I don't know how well restraning orders work in the US, but in Aussie they are not worth the paper they are written on..I had to take out three on an ex-patient (who thought he was in love with me), he broke every one of them, I ended up in hospital for two weeks, I had to sell up and move and all he got was a hefty fine, slapped on the wrist and told to go on his way...I hope they take them more seriously in the US.

She is lucky to have you.

Hugs
Jan :-*

He did indeed come by my place but Mary was already gone to her mother's in Detroit... I told him to stay the hell away from here and that i had 911 on hold (which I did). He said that he was leaving for Nebraska or somewhere and that he just wated to say goodbye. Yeah, whatever.

Fried Green Tomatoes indeed, my dear lady...........and Thank God you were there.  Interesting weapon of choice.
But at least she's safe now.  I hope she doesn't end up going back to him.  Battered wife syndrome and all......
Personally I think everyone should have a body guard....mine likes to play with aligators.  Hmmm!

So do you gals live in Whistle Stop Georgia?  I hear they do some fine BBQ Ribs...
and its true.  The secret is IN the sauce.  Slurp! :P

Perhaps there's a secret in the swedish meatballs too? ::)
