And to add to my post above, another juror speaks:

http://www.baynews9.com/article/news/2011/july/275214/Another-Casey-trial-juror-talks

PINELLAS COUNTY --

Another Casey Anthony juror is speaking out.

Juror No. 2 spoke exclusively with Bay News 9's partner newspaper the St. Petersburg Times on Wednesday. The juror spoke on the condition his identity not be revelaed.

"Everybody agreed if we were going fully on feelings and emotions," the juror said, "She was done."

He said the jury focused on the evidence that was presented.

"I wish we had more evidence to put her away. I truly do...But it wasn't there."

The juror's comments come on the heels of another juror, Jennifer Ford, who spoke with ABC News about her experience during the case.

"I did not say she was innocent," according to an article posted on the network's website Wednesday. She adds, "I just said there was not enough evidence."

Ford says she and other jurors cried and were "sick to our stomach" after voting Tuesday to acquit the 25-year-old Anthony of murder. Ford says that's why jurors didn't want to face the media right away.

Did Casey Anthony commit the Perfect Murder?  Good grief, the bimbo who googled neck breaking, chlorophorm, weapons, etc.  I want to have her as my neighbour, when she gets out.  She can babysit my niece's children. What kind of kangaroo court lets a child murderer go free?!!!

They knew she was guilty, but the evidence did not support a verdict of "guilty", and since "not innocent" is not a choice, she was found not guilty.    I understand that the jury was charged with some complicated and detailed instructions on how they must judge the evidence presented, and I'm sure this is what resulted in the "not guilty" verdict -- no cause of death, no DNA.   I think it's the "CSI Effect"   -- juries now need and expect to see undeniable proof of EVERYTHING.

What I DO NOT understand is why they let her off on the lesser charges....there were other choices they could have made....even manslaughter of a child, or murder in a lesser degree.....and certainly do not understand how they found her not guilty of aggravated child abuse.

I watched Marcia Clark last night, and she stated that this verdict was "worse" than the OJ verdict, and she listed several reasons why she thought so.   It's all been very interesting, to say the least.

I see Casey Anthony sort of like Joran Van Der Sloot, in the Natalee Holloway case....they knew he was involved (guilty) but released him; he went on to kill again.  She may do the same.

Alan, interesting post! I am also at a loss to understand why they did not convict on a lesser charge. I am not convinced this jury understood it's collective 'job.' Here is a VERY interesting read of the jury instructions.

AGGRAVATED CHILD ABUSE

§ 827.03(2), Fla. Stat.

To prove the crime of Aggravated Child Abuse, the State must prove the following two elements beyond a reasonable doubt:

1. Casey Marie Anthony knowingly or willfully committed child abuse upon Caylee

Marie Anthony and in so doing caused great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement.

2. Caylee Marie Anthony was under the age of eighteen years.

“Willfully” means intentionally, knowingly and purposely.

“Child abuse” means the intentional infliction of physical or mental injury upon a child or an intentional act that could reasonably be expected to result in physical or mental injury to a child or active encouragement of any person to commit an act that results or could reasonably be expected to result in physical or mental injury to a child.
________________________________________

I suppose that the jury bought her story of an 'accidental drowning';  therefore, Caylee was dead when Casey lied to the police, and not reporting it was not considered child abuse.   Crazy, isn't it?
I think if I had been on the jury, I could have determined that (1) if the child drowned in the pool as she stated (which I do not believe for one second) that (2) not calling 911, which possibly could have saved her life, was child abuse.....I think the jury was tired, sick of being sequestered, and wanted to go home.  I get that, 100%.   I think some or all of them will live to regret their 'brief' (maybe too brief?) deliberations....

From what I can discern from what has been said, the jury never moved beyond Murder 1. They never even considered the lesser charges. The juror who was on ABC said they could not find the evidence to support the death penalty. I am paraphrasing but in essence, once they could not support Murder 1, they shut down and went for not guilty on all counts. Two things are becoming more evident, IMHO, the first is the State of Florida set the bar too high for a Murder 1. That is something almost everyone agrees on. The second is that the jury disregarded all of the lesser charges and for whatever reason never applied the evidence to the lesser charges which should have resulted in a conviction.

This is the beauty and fallacy of the jury system though. Cases have been won and lost with less evidence than what was presented.

If they could have convicted for something other than Murder 1, then they should have.  Wasn't there any evidence that the girl was never in Tampa, never with any identified nanny, and in fact Casey didn't report a missing daughter for weeks.  This is definitely child abuse.

For whatever reason the jury seems to have considered Murder 1 and stopped there. They never considered the other (lesser) charges and no one knows why...

Or perhaps a combination. I posted the jury instructions in a previous post. They were lengthy but pretty explicit. I wonder of they tuned out and simply didn't pay attention.

I dunno.  Mystery.  I served on a jury for a murder and my experience was that collectively there was enough intelligence to do right.  I thought everyone contributed relevant, valid input.  But I guess juries differ and maybe there is the fatigue factor.  Mystery.

Regardless of what verdict the jury returned, the child is still dead.

A miscarriage of justice? Most certainly. Will any verdict bring the child back?

No.

Maybe the next time she kills - emboldened by this recent verdict - maybe - just maybe, she'll get what is due to her. As I am a firm believer in Karma, her ass is gonna fry regardless.

Thanks for posting the jury instructions Drewm and obviously they did not understand the instructions. They had the ability to return a verdict on each and every count and just because they found her "not guilty" on one count, did not prevent them from finding her "guilty" on the other counts. Something tells me the judge is pulling their hair out, because this jury really screwed up.

As far as Cassey is concerned, consider that she murdered her own child. No matter how heartless she may think she is, eventually she will be haunted by her heinous deed for the rest of her life. May she live to 100.

If she is insane she isn't and won't be haunted by her acts.  Her behavior in the month after her child "went missing" suggest severe personality disorder.  She would have to be treated, to feel accountability.

edited - well some sort of personality disorder.  But if her state drove her to murder, I guess we could say severe.

It seems she would only have gotten treatment on a manslaughter charge.  I don't think people on death row get therapy...   It's only for the criminally insane, right?

I dont want to steal the thread or start a new one, given the topic is similar....Here in Quebec, Canada, we are also afraid Dr Guy Turcotte will go free after murdering his two kids

OK so she is to be released next Sunday....so where will she go?  what will she do?   Her first interview will be a good paycheck for her, I suppose....wonder who it will be with?  Would anyone legit want to interview her?

HLN keeps the saga ongoing, it's about all they focus on.   I'm ready to move past it....yes, it's a travesty, but there's not a whole lot we can do about it now.   I'd hate to be one of those jurors....

And to show you that the family's quest for money has begun - Casey's mother met with a wealth management advisor today - speculating rumor that she has signed a book, interview, or movie deal.
