Thank You For Being A Friend
« on: June 07, 2011, 10:52:32 AM »
Andrew Gold, a singer, songwriter and versatile musician who had a Top 10 hit in 1977 with "Lonely Boy" and was a vital component of Linda Ronstadt's pop success in the 1970s as a member of her band, has died. He was 59.

"Lonely Boy" was THE LAMEST song ever written. With the possible exception of "Billy Don't Be A Hero"

Carl, maybe we should start linking awful songs from the 70s now   ;)

One I think that would also qualify would be "Nights Are Forever" by England Dan/John Ford-Coley

Ugh--they may have been awful--but don't they take ya' back?  ;)  I've had Lonely Boy stuck in my head all day today--yikes!  BUT it does remind me of a summer day when I was much younger, enjoying the heck out of my yellow and black schwinn with a banana seat. :D

Having mine stolen off the back porch along with music from REO Speedwagon made for some rough times.
I despise the song Love is in the Air, you should too.

But if we're to acknowlege the awfulness of Earth-Tone Era music, one must not forget to give credit where credit's due. And I would like to give credit to the Captain & Tenille and their beautiful love song, "Muskrat Love", complete with electronic twitterings of muskrats in, ummm, love? Even Barry Manilow couldn't come up such complete dreck.

Ya gotta love a song about a 'nooner. Time to clean out the ol' auditory canals with Clorox......

If my doddering memory serves me correctly, they briefly had a Saturday morning kide show. They'd, y'know, ride fom town to town, and sing when they got there. In a customized van or RV. It was heady stuff.

If you want some really bad songs you need to go back to the 50's, I was seven when this one came out... :D
