One of my favourite Queen songs. And I love Freddie's portrayal of a moustachioed housewife. Classic!

When I was at the fishing, one of the boats I worked on was owned by the local blacksmith. He made our scallop gear and I used to supplement my income on days when we weren't at sea by helping out in the smithy's shed. One of my jobs was to cut steel bars into short portions which then had to have two holes drilled into one end.

Sometimes the drill-bit would seize up and I had aerosol cans of stuff called "Break Free" that I'd have to squirt into the hole. I was constantly singing this song to myself when I was working the drill. I changed some of the lyrics to fit what was going on at the time around town, although I can't remember any of those lyrics. Of course the chorus part remained the same. My boss thought I was nuts.

"I want to break free!"

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

This video used to play on the television when I was a small boy. Usually as a filler between the end of The Goodies and the start of Doctor Who.

No wonder we all got AIDS.

I loved it. :)

Making you feel old is just cream on the tart, so to speak. :)

When Aunty didn't show I Want to Break Free she played Love is All.

I want whatever drugs the animation team was on when they dreamed up that little bit of psychedelia. Like, wow man. Groovy.

Oh noes! That has a fishing connection for me too. There was this one skipper named Mickey who was a bit of a nutter. The rest of the fleet all called him "Metal Mickey" but for the longest time I thought they were saying Mental Mickey, cuz, well, he was. Then his father overheard me in the pub one evening and realised I was saying mental instead of metal. He explained the knickname came about from the telly show - one I'd obviously missed because 1) I was still in the States when it was being aired and 2) I've yet to see a re-run.
