Poz and Bitchy!
« on: April 09, 2011, 05:04:42 AM »
Hey guys, I just noticed a thing, after almost 2 years of being poz.
Despite the other major changes in my life that came with HIV, I've noticed that I became so damn bitchy

I am very ironical, always saying what I feel/think, cynical, etc..
and it's a major change for me, because before I was always the "good swwet guy"

but I like it like this to be honest  8)

so what about you? Any changes in personality/thinking/acting after becoming Poz?
There's too much confusion.

You sound like my wife.  I wouldn't believe her but her mother backs up this theory, proudly I might add.  I became less materialistic, long cargo shorts and t-shirt type of guy.  I find myself sometimes getting entranced in details because I so easily forget.  I don't handle stress so well anymore either.

I don't know, maybe it's the HIV or just topping 40 by two.  Either way, it sucks.

We all have our moments of being bitchy.  Many folks just cant help it and tend to be that way most of the time.  Are you suggesting its HIV that has caused this trait?

I don't know about him.  I suspect the constant skipping of lexapro doses to be my wife's problem.   :D

I use to shudder when she would call me during the day to tell me she missed her dose the night before and was given her workers a hard time.........  because I knew she would be coming home to me.

I hope she had her own office where she could sequester herself from the others.  We had a manager who would miss 'mood stabilizer' doses on a regular bases.  She would slam the door to her office then constantly call on the phone to verbally abuse the staff (one by one).  I actually put her on speaker and walked away once when her boss had come into the area.  She never called me again... just acted like the fool she was face to face.

Matty, I think you're just totally misunderstood.  The fact that you can sense and slice through some poster's Solipsism Syndrome is an asset.  Dont change a thing!

The first thing I wondered is if your combo included Sustiva, so I had a look through your posting history. I see that while you're not on Sustiva, you have been battling with depression issues since even before your diagnosis, and also anger issues since your diagnosis. Being bitchy goes hand-in-hand with both of these problems.

I read that you've tried Zoloft, but quit taking it because it didn't suit you. There are other anti-depressants you can try. You should also try some face-to-face counselling or therapy, if it is available where you live (and I do realise it may be difficult to find someone where you live). But please do give it a try. Your hiv doctor may be able to refer you to someone suitable.

It's normal for a newly diagnosed person to go through anger and depression, but you're two years down the line now so it sounds like it's time you did something about it. It's no way to live.

Good luck and keep reaching out to us here. Sometimes a good venting post can do wonders for your mood. Hang in there, and please, try to find out if there are therapists available where you live.

Agree with that. Or indeed tenofovir (also in Truvada and Atripla) - I got well mouthy when I started tenofovir, but it passed in a year or so (!)

yeap Ann, am on Kaletra  and Combivir.. and true that I tried Zoloft, right after seroconversion but just for 3 months and went off cuz side effects and anyway felt like can make it without it.
And thanks for the replies and support.

It's funny that, even though am ok (mean not sad or being depressed about the fact that am poz) I think this bitchiness and anger it's still a sign that deep somewhere something it's not over the fact that I am Poz.

The thing with face-2-face therapy is that am not living in my native country. and doing therapy in english, even tought am good on it, won't do the job.. as it's very difficult and complicated to express what I feel...

anyway am trying not to hurt the loved ones too bad
There's too much confusion.

Ain't nothing wrong with being a bitch.  Embrace it.  As my lover who passed from teh AIDS (insert shameless corpse dragging moment) used to say: this world is not for the meek.
"I have tried hard--but life is difficult, and I am a very useless person. I can hardly be said to have an independent existence. I was just a screw or a cog in the great machine I called life, and when I dropped out of it I found I was of no use anywhere else."

Good deal! The lucky thing is that you get to blame it on HIV/meds, and get a free pass: "Oh, he just gets that way. It's the virus, don't take it personally, he can't help it."

As opposed to a neggie: "Man, what a BITCH!"  "No shit!"

It's quite easy for me to imagine.  If you'd said that you were more of a bitch 10 years ago... well, I don't know that I could believe that.   ;)

I'm similarly a lot nicer now and a hell of a lot less aggressive than I used to be.  I think age mellows everyone out.
