Singing Dirty To Children
« on: March 16, 2011, 02:02:17 AM »
Evan Emory, a college student and musician, sang for a class of 1st graders.  It was an age-appropriate song.  He took video of it.  Later and as a joke, he sang what is being called "a dirty song" and through editing he made it appear he was singing it to the children.  The kids were not there.  From what I read, he even puts a disclaimer on the video saying it was a joke and no kids were present.

Well, he was charged with a 20 year felony for manufacturing child sexually abusive material.  I find this another example of prosecutors going way overboard.  Most of them are elected, right?  I've seen TV shows, especially late night TV, do skits and songs with suggestive language with kids really present.  Again, no kids were actually present in this case.  It would seem like an invasion of his free speech rights.  It isn't like he edited the video to make it appear the kids were engaging in sexual acts.  Are we going to put people in prison for listening to music with curse words and sexually explicit lyrics in front of their children?  The video has been pulled from Youtube and I can't find the full lyrics to the song.  If the media is going to report the story, they should report the lyrics instead of leaving people to wonder what they were.  Maybe some news outlets have reported the lyrics and I overlooked it.

It's outrageous that he's having the book thrown at him over that, but he really should've known better.
What did he think was going to happen when the parents of those young kids saw what he did?

I think it was done in horribly bad taste but not to the extent of criminal prosecution.  Though, not sure how I'd feel if my child was shown in the video.
Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.
