Not-for-profit Organizations
« on: February 04, 2011, 08:51:51 PM »
One of the hardest things about being diagnosed with HIV, for me, has been the thought of helplessness.  The thought that I am no longer in control of my life or my mortality.  Now, I've decided to channel those fears into positive action.  I'm gathering support from my family, friends, and their work associates to follow my lead into donating towards charity.  Specifically, a charity that's main focus is on research in treatments, vaccines, (but most importantly) a cure of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.  The difficult part is choosing the best ones.

So far, one of the better organizations I've found that's actively researching HIV/AIDS treatments and cures is the AIDS Research Alliance (www.aidsresearch.org).  As a Washington native, I'm also interested in the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (http://www.seattlebiomed.org/).

What are some of your recommendations?  What are some of the organizations you donate too?

I met one of the researchers at Seattle BioMed a while back.  She was brilliant!  The organization has made some progress as well.

I'm going to be moving back to the Seattle area soon, so that's certainly an organization I'm considering.

Anyone else have any recommendations?
