Crikey !!! Now THATS a Spikey....
« on: September 07, 2006, 10:21:26 AM »
Hopefully , everyone that visits the beach is aware of the 'Stingray Shuffle'  which is simply shuffling your feet rather than stepping as you walk through the surf in order to avoid stepping on a stingray and getting a barb in the leg, more than once Ive been at the beach and had a school of rays pass within inches of me, truly beautiful especially in the clear Florida water.., Stingrays are some of the most docile creatures in the sea so I was really amazed thet Steve Irwin was killed by one. It must have been a very Large Ray, and a very unlucky jab perfectly between the ribs, and probablly into the heart or one of its major vessels in order to cause the quick death that they described...

Afew Years ago I picked up the Stingray Barb pictured below from a local SeaShell slaesman and avid scuba diver who said that the ray that he had taken it from was about 6 feet across, no where near as large as they can grow..
I simply HAD to have it for my collection of menacing and dangerous shit..
So, if the barb hit him just right, you can see how it would have killed him...

aint the Macro on my new camera great ??
