Italian,

You have reliably tested hiv negative. Rather than worry about subtypes, you should make sure you were tested for both hiv1 and hiv2. As long as you were, you're good to go.

Italian,

For a start, you were never likely to end up hiv positive over a condom break. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is even more difficult to transmit from a woman to a man. I've yet to see the insertive partner (that's you) end up positive following a condom break. I do not expect you to be the first.

The study you cite used tests available in Cameroon. You tested in Italy. As far as I'm concerned you are reliably hiv negative.

If you continue to have doubts or concerns, I suggest you print the study out and show it to your doctor. Your doctor can then decide if he or she thinks you need further testing.

For the record, I do not think you need further testing. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Italian,

You said in your first post that you tested negative at thirteen weeks. This is a conclusive result.

And yes, types O and N will be picked up by third generation tests.

As I said earlier, if you continue to have further worries or concern, print the study you cited out and show it to your doctor. He or she can then decide if you need further confirmatory testing.

Again, I do not believe you need further testing. You were never likely to end up positive following a condom break in the first place.

Italian,

Yes, I'm sure. Apparently your doctor agrees. Again, I suggest you talk your concerns over with your doctor. As we have a language barrier between us, his explanation will be easier for you to understand.

I will point out one more time that the study you cite used tests that are available in Cameroon, not Italy where you tested.

Once again, as far as we are concerned here you tested conclusively hiv negative at thirteen weeks.

You're HIV negative. Period. End of story.

And as long as you continue to use condoms everytime for vaginal and anal intercourse you will stay negative in terms of sexual risk for HIV.

This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

You are worrying needlessly. Your test result was reliable. Ann has already told you that the test you took would pick up type O and N. Are you bothering to really read the responses you receive here?

Yours is a typically guilty reaction of a straying husband. You did what you did, you had a minimally risky situation with a broken condom and now you're agonizing unnecessarily over virus types.

Let it go and get on with your life. You cannot pass a virus you don't have. Period.
