Winter Wonderland
« on: December 31, 2010, 01:08:46 AM »
I just had to share. It was very pretty, aside from the fact it snowed for two days without stopping.

Those of us in the Land of Enchantment do appreciate the wet stuff though. We live in the high desert, which means droughts are a way of life.

So, when we get it, we usually appreciate it. Since I live in a small city divided by the River of Lost Souls, just 45 minutes from Purgatory, I have come to enjoy the variety of weather, etc., that comes our way.

Swell photos, Mark. I just never got around to taking any of the pileup here and now a lot of it, at least here in Manhattan, is dirty and messy doo-doo. But it sure is an entertainment doing the hip hop moves across the lakes of black water on the corners. And watching others trying to gauge just how deep the water is before hopping over.

Yep, I did. Just the driveway. I really should shovel the walk to the front door, but was winded so I stopped.

HUGS,

When we lived in Arkansas, we could always spot the Yankees by who shoveled and who didn't.
We southerners would let the snow set there for two days until it melted.
Better to not chance that heart attack!

Shoveling snow is made easier these days by a new fangled device called an "ergonomic" (?) shovel that has a curved handle, making it possible to shovel without bending over.  I highly recommend it.
Oh, and by the way....our local homeless guy comes around and shovels for reasonable fees.  I feel its a good way to give him money without it looking like a handout.
Our snow was very light and feathery but drifted into 4 foot drifts.

We wound up getting about a foot of snow or so.

Now, the temps have dropped. Our high today is supposed to be 18 F (-7.8 C), but so far, the thermometer hasn't climbed above 12 F (-11.1 C)

A friend wanted to go ring in the new year at Ignacio, Colorado, last night. The Southern Ute Tribe has a rather nice casino there.

The bands sucked big time, the snacks were not too bad, and my friend hit a royal on the quarter poker machine for $1,000, so he picked up the tab for the excursion.

The temperature dropped to - 22 F (- 30 C), and some people had trouble starting their cars this morning. We did OK, but the road and highways were completely covered in sheer ice.

I am glad we decided to get a room rather than try to fend our way home after the New Year's Celebration ended.

I am looking forward to next week. It is supposed to go up to a balmy 36 F by Tuesday.

HUGS,

Mark

When I had my snow day from work, we got 33 inches of snow.
