Rambling thoughts?
« on: September 06, 2006, 03:52:22 AM »
It seems a common practice to attribute all of oneís ills to the HIV infection? Perhaps much of the ailments we suffer, we would have suffered with out being infected, after all, personally I am approaching Fifty Seven years and my immune system would naturally be in decline and problems would be arising as a consequence, not so many years back this age would have been life expectancy for a person of normal heath, and still is in some parts of this world today. The fungal infections I am suffering from I have suffered on and off since my youth, but now my Doctor associates it with my HIV. Before my diagnosis I never went to the Doctor, (typical bloke I suppose, just let it ride,) now I am on the phone to the Surgery for the smallest problem, I have become obsessed, with monitoring my state of heath, I am sure it is all unnecessary, but I notice I am not alone in this, as I read these forums, or is it the forums them selves generating this obsession? And keeping HIV at the forefront of my mind, I wonder if by staying away and not reading them for a while, that, that would put HIV a pace back in my mind. But then they, The Forums, have now become an obsession and I need my daily fix of forum life. Oh well just rambling thoughts, I expect it's the HIV,s Fault.

LOL

John(UK),

In my life I try not to obsess about things, including HIV. There are some health matters that obviously are linked to being Poz, but for the most part, I only experience the common ailments of the common man.

Now if my CD4 drops into the red zone or my VL jumps, I might well become obsessed with things, but as it stands now I am living with HIV just as a diabetic lives with Diabetes. It's been 18 years since my diagnosis, so I'm pretty used to the whole concept. I try to keep the focus on living, and not on the HIV.

Being Poz is just one aspect of my life.  It isnít my whole life.

Well the topic was Rambling Thoughts, so I guess those are mine this morning.  :-*

Yep, it is easy to start blaming HIV for everything under the sun.

I have toenail fungus, must be HIV-related.

My blood pressure was a tad too low (86/45), must be the HIV.

I have acid reflux, must be the HIV.

I try not to obsess about these things, but it is sooo easy to fall into this trap of blaming HIV for everything that goes wrong, bad or become an annoyance.

Fact is, I am in my late 40s (very late). At this age, the things I did to my body 25 years ago are catching up with me, HIV notwithstanding.

But its a lot easier to blame the bug than to admit I may be getting older (EEP! AARP material here!  :o  )

HUGS,

Mark
