I won't sugar coat it, many people have a lot of trouble with the side effects of this treatment. I was one of them, but I persevered through the year because I wanted to get rid of the hcv. And I did.

One of the possible side-effects is depression, so if you are suffering from that to any degree now, I would suggest considering changing the Sustiva component (known for causing depression) of your Atripla to something less associated with depression.

One thing that kept me going through 52 weeks of side-effects was knowing that it wasn't going to be like that forever and if I managed to be cured, my liver would be in good shape and able to take what life throws at it. I did the treatment in 2002/03 and I'm now hcv free and doing good. That year of hell was well worth it.

Good luck, feel free to ask me any more specific questions.

Ann

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Thanks Ann,,  I have been on the Hep C meds for 8 or 9 weeks... i felt tired the first week.. my liver function tests were really bad for the last 6 months prior.. i know when i was infected.  so i was in the accute part of it. my dr said i am the first person that he has treated so early after infection.   I went into this with a positive attitude...i said i am not going to feel sick from  the meds... i am normally not at all depresed.... except when my Testostorne was really low.. i got anti depressant as a preventitive measure.. i took it for the fist month and then i tapered off it and have been off for 3 or 4 weeks and have not been depressed.. i am doing alot of cardo and working out inthe gym for the last 2.5 months and have been off the drugs (oxy, ect)   I am really feeling quite good considering.. i do have a bit of shame and guilt that i let myself down so much be not carring what happened to me.. i was slowly trying to kill myself and didnt care what happen to me.. ie let myself be exposed to hep c.l.. anyway now i am living the consiquences of my poor drug induced decisions.. but i am happy and feel better then i have in years.  so i will take that.

Sounds like you're doing really well, congratulations! I've heard that many who start treatment when the infection is still quite new fair better where the side-effects are concerned. I'd been infected for around 18 years when I started treatment so maybe that's the difference between our experience of the side effects. What ever it is, I hope you continue doing so well. Keep us posted!
