Piercings and Tattoos
« on: October 25, 2010, 05:07:18 PM »
I was thinking of getting a industrial Piercing soon for my Bday this week,  and eventually getting a tattoo around January. Is this a good idea even though I am HIV Positive? ???

hey buddy! go got it.
I will do a tattoo myself soon. I guess won't be a problem with it, I asked my Dr and she said it' ok.

Just tell the guy will do it that u are positive, and make sure the skin won't get infected till will get healed. that's it.

I've gotten all eight of my tatts since being diagnosed 21 years ago.  No problems, as long as you know the artist uses sterile equipment, and keep up with the healing process.

Oh, and I've had multiple face piercings in the past (since being diagnosed) also.

What is an industrial piercing?  How did it go?  I was contemplating getting my nose done.

I got tattooed twice since being diagnosed, the second time was to cover up the first. :)

Industrial piercing.
When an industrial piercing is done, two or more tissue piercings are done and they are joined using a single long barbell (industrial barbell). This is done in order to reduce stress on the tissue. However, the piercings can be fitted with separate pieces of jewelry and can heal individually. The piercings should be marked with care so that the gauge can easily be fitted through them. 1.6 mm gauge would be ideal.

This type of piercing could include ears and nipples and other sensitive body parts, not always on display. Each entry and exit point, is considered a piercing, so if you had your ears done, you would technically have 4 piercings done.

I have gotten all my tats after I was poz.  I always told the artist and it was never a big deal because, according to one, he treats everyone like they have the plague.  Make sure you go to a nice shop, watch them open the needles, and make sure to get literature about aftercare.

Happy birthday!

It's really important that you go to a reputable artist who uses disposable needles and who practices universal precautions. While it would be unusual to get hiv from a piercing or tattoo, it is very possible to pick up something like hep C or a bacterial infection from someone who isn't careful in their practice. You don't want either, but you REALLY don't want hep C! Don't feel shy about quizzing the artist about their hygiene practices. They should be happy to discuss it with you and if they aren't, RUN, don't walk, out of their studio.

And of course, we want photos of the finished product! :)

I have wanted an industrial piercing in my ear for a long time. Not sure if it hurts more than my nipple piercing. I have had a tattoo done since becoming infected and plan on getting another one soon. No problems. Tattoo artists should be performing like dentists. Completely sterile.

Ears are nothing compared to nipples, in terms of pain, if only they were.  :o

ill go out on a limb and say ear piercings can be painful -- but worth it : ). i've had a number of ear piercings and when you get the cartilage pierced it hurts like a mofu. the rook wasn't much fun either. i've had my nipples pierced multiple times (at least 4) and i can say that certain parts of the ear, at least for me, can be just as painful.
