HIV household
« on: September 01, 2006, 10:17:54 am »
Hi

I'm really scared because i went to the redlight district in Amsterdam
a couple of months ago.
I obviously used a condom , but the problem is, that only
1 for both Oral and intercourse, when i finished i didn't
found any scratches or something but I'm still scared.

Do you think that the condom could obtain any microscopic holes
during oral sex?, Is my risk high? Do i need an HIV Test?

Thanks for your attention.

Rocket,

Comdoms do not have microscopic or any other type of holes. If you've read otherwise, you've read a myth that is put out by people who don't want anyone to have intercourse outside a heterosexual marriage and they certainly don't want people to use condoms.

Condoms have been proven to be very effective when it comes to hiv prevention. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you do NOT need to test over this specific incident, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

You did the right thing and used a condom. You did not have a risk. Keep using condoms no matter if the person you are with is a sex worker or your next door neighbour and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Thank you very much Ann for you fast Reply

I've been a bit scared these last 2 months because of that situation
and i really needed someone with a bit experience in the field to
answer me. I know that i need regular checks as long as
i have an active Sex life, but i don't know if i needed
a condom change between oral and intercourse, (oral was just
for  2 minutes or maybe less and i did NOT ejaculated )but i heard that teeth could
damage the condom.

Excuse my english i'm italian
Thanks

Sorry to double post

But even if my chance of infection is very low,
taking an HIV test should be considered??

Using only one condom for both oral  and intercourse
is not risky?

thanks

ROcket, when a condom fails it is not a subtle event so you needn't be concerned about "miscroscopic" holes.

A condom is not necessary for receiving oral. There's never been a documented case of transmission in that manner. From what you have described I don't see any reason to doubt the condom protected you effectively just as it is supposed to.

I don't see any need for testing nor for further concern. This is about anxiety and fear and that's quite different from real risk. You didn't have any risky behavior in this incident even though the condom was used for both oral and vaginal. No kidding.

Let it go and get on with your life.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

Hello guys

So here's my story:
I live in an appartment with a young couple and my
friend just told me he is hiv positive.
Do you think is safe sharing bathroom with him?
The other day i found blood in the sink (apparenly he spitted
after washing his teeth). And i was really scared. Because i
don't know if i accidentally touched the area, even if i washed
it before with water.
What are the odds of being infected?

Thanks in advance

You can get infected if you share IV drug needles with him.

You can get infected if you have unprotected anal or vaginal sex with him.

Some scientists still believe you can get infected if you perform fellatio on him and drink his ejaculate.

Other than that, you are perfectly insulated from the possibility of infection.

You know the two threads in this forum that state "READ ME FIRST" and "WELCOME?" They contain all this information and more. I ure you to read those lessons.

HIV is NOT transmitted through household contact. Were that the case, it owuld be considered not an infectious disease, but a contagious one.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

That was a zero risk incident, absolutely no chance of transmission.

Thanks again for your fast replies.

I was particularly worried about that incident, i panicked when i saw
the blood.

This has never happened to me before but  would it be dangerous if i
accidentally use his razor?

Thanks

Theoretically it could happen but in the real world of HIV science transmission doesn't happen that way.

In general it's a good idea to have your own razor, toothbruth, etc. as other germs can easily be transmitted. Find a way to keep them separately -- perhaps in your own room and bring them to the bathroom when you use them.

But as far as HIV is concerned you don't have to worry nor test about this.

Thanks again andy for your help.

I was kinda worried about it.

I guess that we all want to keep our body away from STD's,
and sometimes we overreact.

Thanks for your help.

Hello guys

Sorry to bother you guys again but i've got one more question.

I read that infections could happen living in the same house with an HIV
infected person, (like getting stucked in a needle for instance), even if is rare.

Is there something i can do to minimize the risk, i have acne and sometimes
bleeding occurs when i squeeze my zits. Is this risky ? Like touching an infected area and then
touch a bleeding spot in my face or a wound?

Thanks

Before you post again read the transmission lesson. You'll find the link in the "Welcome" thread. You were supposed to have read it before you began to post.

You don't get HIV from environmental surfaces.

HIV is a fragile virus which requires a hospitable environment. A household needle, a doorknob, a glass or a plate and other daily items do not provide such an environment and are not means of transmission.

In general the real issue is unprotected intercourse, whether vaginal or anal. Period.
