Freaking out now plzz plz help!!!!!
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:43:57 AM »
Hi everyone!
Before I start my topic, please forgive my poor English. I'm not a native English speaker.
Please can someone help me out? I'm really really freaking out.. matter fact, I've been freaking out for the last 8 weeks.
About 8 weeks ago, I've been to the massage place and all we did was deep french kissing for about 2 mins. (No vagianl or anal inter-course)
But here is the problem, as soon as she finished kissing me and took off for a shower, I came back to my sense and realized what I've done.
So I tried not to swollow anything and spitted out on the tissue right away. And I noticed a blood presence (not fullly blooded, bloodish spit, u know what I mean?) and ever since then, I've freaking out,, I mean really freaking out. I also have a very poor gum health, almost everytime I brush my teeth I bleed, so it's probably my blood on the tissue. But what if she was bleeding as well?
And also, about 7-10 days after this inccident I started to show all the symptoms, including mild fever, fatigue, dry coughs, nausea, and occasional
diahrria. It's now my 7 and half week and I still have dry coughs at night, fatigue, nausea and occasional diahrrias. These were not continuous,
some of the symptoms stopped for 1 or 2 weeks.
I have four questions....

1. How dangerous is french kissing with bleeding gums?

2. Can symptoms continue for more than a month?

3.( I'm really really sorry to ask this, but I have no bad intention) Are the people here posting replies have any medical backgrounds? or is it just coming from researches and personal history?

4. How long a person with freshly infected can live for with the modern treatments? (I'm 26 )

Dead,

Kissing is NOT a risk for hiv transmission, no matter what sort of spin you want to think of to put on it. Saliva is NOT infectious. You did NOT have a risk of hiv infection. Period. End of story.

Thanks Ann
But I'm not just talking about saliva here..
I'm really really scared and trying to think straight but I can't.
I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow for a test, but
I'm not sure if I have a courage to go and actually do the test...

The only thing an HIV tests for is HIV. Period.

If you have other concerns such as mono, discuss them with your doctor.

As far as HIV is concerned you have nothing to worry about in relation to the incident you  have been worrying about.

Thanks guys~ I really really appreciate your helps.

You guys gave me such a courage with your knowledges and encouragement, so I went down to
the local GP and got myself a test. And It was Negative. My GP told me 7 and half weeks is enough and
he did not recommend me 12-13 week re-test.

How accurage is 7 and half week test (53 days) ?

You didn't need to have a test to begin with, so any test at any time would have been conclusive for the above incident you described.

I'm wondering what it will take foryou to get with the fact that you have no basis in HIV science for further concern. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

Thanks guys I really appreciate you guys insightful help...

I just have 2 more questions for the last time...

1. Is all the test kits meant for hiv only? or hiv/aids?

2. during the test, if blood was contacted with air, could it cause a false result?
(Let's say, Used a straw to pick up the small amount of blood instead of dropping straight into the testing kit)

Dead,

1. There is no "aids" test. There is only an hiv test. Aids is caused by hiv and if a person has aids, they will test positive on the hiv test.

2. No. That will NOT cause a false result.

You did NOT HAVE A RISK OF HIV INFECTION and you do not need to test.

Sorry to bother you once again.
but I have a question about IV drugs..
What is IV drugs ??? I've read what Andy said on other posting that IV drugs can
delay the seroconvert. I've been taking this medicine (oral medicine) for my nauseas,
Is this called IV drugs?

I know i have no risk but out of curiousity and feeling secured, can u please answer these
questions?

Dead,

IV drugs refers to drugs that are injected into a vein, like heroin. IV means IntraVenous, in other words, IntoVein.

A person's immune system would have to be extremely weak in order for that to delay seroconversion. If your immune system were this bad, you would know about it - you'd probably be hospitalised.

You did NOT HAVE A RISK OF HIV INFECTION and you do not need to test. You do not need to worry about late seroconversion.

Thanks Ann,
And sorry about posting again, but this will probably the last one coz i'm almost at 12 week mark.

my question is 'why experts advice people to get tested after 12-13 weeks after the endangered exposure?
As my understanding from all the advices, average period for seroconverts is 23 days and vast majority of people
can find their status by 4-6 weeks. Then, why is 7, 8,9,10,11 week test is still not accurate?
Is it because of what you mentioned above? dugs and cancer treatments...

Getting tested after 6 weeks with a test kit (I assume it's Elisa test kit???) is reliable data?

You have no window period to wait on. You didn't have a risk, so if you want to take an HIV test just to be taking it you can do so at any time.

I must admit that I'm still concern about it...
It is for my pscycological comfort rather than a real worry..
Plus, I really want to find out why is it for the sake of curiousity

Dead,

It is true that the vast majority of people will seroconvert and test postive by six weeks. However, the window period is set at three months simply to catch the rare person who takes slightly longer than six weeks. Hiv is a serious illness and we don't want to miss an infection. It's better to get that final confirmation when we KNOW people will have seroconverted if they've actually been infected.

And once again, you didn't have a risk so any test you take at this point will be conclusive.

Thanks Ann,
then what is the difference b/t elisa test at the hostpital which takes a couple of days to get the result and rapid kit
which gives the result within 20 minutes? N are they equally reliable?
I've also asked one of the GPS in my areas and he told me Elsa and rapid kit is the different thing..
I'm kinda confused...

When the test is done at 12 or 13 weeks the generation of the test is irrelevant. All HIV tests, regardless of the generation, will give an accurate result at 12 or 13 weeks.

But this is all irrelevant in your situation since you didn't have a risk for HIV to begin with.

Getting a negative result is a foregone conclusion.

I think many (not most) people come here to find answers but truth is they seek for
their mental comfort and I believe most of people are getting ones by finding out the up to date answers
and true facts. Thanks once again...

n can I ask you once more question for the last time.. this time really last one...
what are the chances of getting false negative these days?

The chances of a false negative are zilch as long as the test is done at the proper time.

Occasionally there is a false positive. Anytime someone tests positive a re-test is run + the western blot to confirm the result. If the western blot tests negative then the final result is considered negative.

Give yourself a break and let go of this concern. No kidding.
