THE TRUTH AND MYTHS ABOUT CONTRACTING HIV THROUGH ORAL SEX.
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:29:53 PM »
EVERY WEBSITE AND PERSON SEEMS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION ON CONTRACTING HIV THROUGH ORAL SEX.

LATE MONDAY EARLY TUESDAY, I PREFORMED ORAL SEX WITH A 19 YEAR OLD MALE WITHOUT A CONDOM. EARLIER IN THE NIGHT HAD BITEN THE INSIDE OF MY MOUTH ABOUT AN HOUR OR TWO BEFORE THIS HAPPEND. THIS PERSON DID NOT COME IN MY MOUTH BUT THERE WAS PRECUM INVOLVED.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL TO TRY TO OBTAIN THE HIV COCKTAIL BUT THE DOCTOR STATED THAT THE HIV SPECIALIST SAID IT WAS NOT NEEDED AS THE RISK IS VERY LOW, YET THE DOCTOR SAID IF I WANTED IT I COULD HAVE IT BUT IT MIGHT NOW WORK AT ALL. I WAS TALKED OUT OF TAKING IT

IT IS NOW FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND I HAVE A SORE THROAT, AND STUFFY NOSE. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I HAVE CONTRACTED THE VIRUS, BUT IT MIGHT. THE ONLY REASON WHY I AM WORRIED IS BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO SAY IN REGARDS TO ORAL SEX AND CONTRACTING HIV.

WHEN I CONTACTED THE CDC THEY STATED THAT ANY TYPE OF RISK IS A RISK EITHER HIGH OR LOW IT'S STILL A RISK AND THERE IS A CHANCE OF CONTRACTING THE DISEASE.

WHEN I SPOKE TO ONE OF MY FRIENDS THAT IS A NURSE SHE SAID THAT IF I WERE TO HAVE BIT MY MOUTH, THE TISSUE HEALS VERY QUICKLY, THE CUT WOULD HAVE HAD TO BEEN DEEP ENOUGH TO GO INTO YOUR BLOODSTREAM AND THAT SINCE THE PERSON I GAVE ORAL SEX TO WAS SO YOUNG THAT BETS ARE HE HAS NO URINARY PROBLEMS OR THINGS OF THE SORT SO THERE SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN ANY OF HIS BLOOD INVOLVED.

WHEN I SPOKE TO A HIV SPECIALIST HE SAID THE RISK IS VERY LOW AND THAT THE CHANCES ARE ABOUT THE SAME AS GETTING HIT BY A CAR AND ALSO ON THIS WEBSITE POZ.COM IT STATES THAT THE CHANCES ARE VERY LOW AND THAT THERES NEVER BEEN A REPORTED CASE.

I'M WRITING THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS PRACTICING SAFE SEX BY HAVING ORAL SEX AS IGNORANT AS IT SOUNDS. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN EDUCATED BETTER AS I HAVE  HAD FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN INFECTED BY THE DISEASE. I HOPE I AM NOT THE FIRST CASE INVOLVING ORAL SEX BUT I DO HOPE SOMEONE HERE HAS A BETTER ANSWER, AND COULD GIVE ME A PERCENTAGE OR SOMETHING OR THE MATTER. A "REAL FACT" OTHER THEN A LOW RISK BECAUSE TO ME "LOW RISK" IS A WIDE WINDOW. IS LOW RISK LIKE FLYING IN AN AIRPLANE AND BEING IN A CRASH. OR IS LOW RISK LIKE, CROSSING THE STREET DURING THE DAY?

There has never been a documented case of HIV being transmitted through cunnilingus. This is why lesbians remain largely unaffected by the pandemic.

Ale,

If you stopped shouting, people might understand your posts a bit better.

You didn't have a risk through sucking some guy's dick. Hiv just isn't transmitted that way.

I know you guys say there's no risk by having oral sex but my lymph nodes are swollen and I have a dry cough. I don't want to te first documented case as doctors have stated that there is a risk of contracting the virus through oral sex and that theres always a possibility so it's very hard to understand who to understand what's going on. It's hard for me to understand what's going on when everyone has something different to say. I don't know who to trust or what not and these three weeks no clue how I'm goin to her through them. Even the CDC had something different to say so what the stragities are...please help... I'm not sleeping eating or doing anything just crying over this...please help

Ale,

While it is quite possible that you got something like gonorrhea  from giving head, it's highly unlikely that you got hiv. Go see a doctor about your throat issues. If you don't believe us that you didn't become infected with hiv through giving head, go test at three months and collect your negative results.

Ale,

There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

If it was so that you can not transmit HIV through oral sex why would the center ofdisease control in the united states state that you can. Ann where do you obtain your information or do you just study HIV. I'm just curious.

I know alot of friends who are positive Which is why I some what fear the disease . I've seen how it affects everyone around you. And I am a single child with no family just a mom , and it hurts me more to hurt her the. Myself bEcause I know how she worries about me...please help

Doubts and fears are not facts. And there is absolutely nothing in the material you are presenting to suggest that you were at risk for HIV. The CDC covers itself by saying "possible risk" for oral because in fact anything other than sex with your own hand is a theoretical risk. But in the real world of HIV we know that the sexual transmission of HIV is about unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

There is nothing even remotely indicate of anything HIV-specific in the various symptoms you are driving yourself nuts about. But then you also need to know that neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms will ever tell you anything reliably about your HIV status. If there has been a genuine risk, which I hasten to repeat you did not have, in such a case only an HIV test can give you an accurate answer about your HIV status.

But you didn't have a risk and testing is not necessary. You need to discuss your symptoms with your doctor. So cut out all the drama because yours is not an HIV situation. You gave and got a blowjob. I don't know if that is unusual behavior for you. Your hysteria sounds more like panic about the sex than anything based in any real knowledge of HIV on your part. So getting testy with us is not going to help you.

This is not an HIV situation. Go see your doctor and find out what, if anything, is causing your symptoms or whether you are just freaking out and now any bodily event is being misinterpreted another (false) sign of HIV infection.

All that Happend was oral sex and fingering. That's all that occurred the reason why I am so worried is because an hour before at dinner I had biten the inside of my tounge. It's very hard to understand what's truth and what's false information on the Internet since everyone seems to have something different to say. It's so confusing to understand who has the correct facts and who has false facts. I am driving myself crazy because I do have People who I know who have been infected. I hope everything ends up ok. I just wish there was a website that was 100% reliable and would tell you the exact facts not, " it's a possible risk". Thinking that you possibily been infected with HIV can really make someone anxious. So they should tell you if this is what I'm concluding that unless u had a huge cut that was bleeding and had an HIV positive partner then you have a possible risk not if you had bitten the inside of your mouth an hour before dinner and engaged in oral sex and figuring then u have a possible risk why don't they just say you have no risk ? That's why I'm confused if that's all that happend why do they still say "possible risk"

   Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

If you continue to search the net I can promise you that you are going to find misinformation to feed your worst fears.

You can accept what we say or not. You were not at risk during this incident you are concerned about. Stop making a big drama about something that wasn't a risk. We're very careful here about how we evaluate each situation.

However, we're not going to argue with you about it. You've been given several well thought out responses. If that's not enough for you then you need to go elsewhere for what you want. I can tell you that you are not going to be allowed to return repeatedly over the same non-risk incident. If you do, you will find  yourself getting a Time Out from the site as Rod has already warned you.

HIV is not your problem. Give it up and get on with your life. If your tongue is bothering you or you have any other symptoms, discuss them with your doctor.

This is not an HIV situation. Period.

I'm not questioning the moderators but i just read this off www.thebody.com

Of course, the virus must also be able to get into your bloodstream through some type of open sore, abrasion, gum disease, etc. The more openings that HIV has to get into your bloodstream, the greater your risk would be. So the more cuts or open sores in your mouth, the greater the risk would be. Or if a person has gum disease, the more severe the gum disease is, the greater the risk would be.

Without ejaculation, there still is some risk of getting infected through giving oral sex, but the risk would be much greater if the man ejaculated in your mouth. So rather than saying high risk vs. low risk, it's actually a spectrum of risk.

No exposure to pre-cum or semen: No risk as far as HIV is concerned.
Exposure to pre-cum only: Low risk (but still technically possible). The more pre-cum you get exposed to, the greater the risk would be.
Exposure to both pre-cum and semen: Risky, especially if there are cuts/open sores in the mouth. The more semen you're exposed to, and the more cuts/abrasions/gum disease in the mouth, the greater the risk. But overall, although risky, it is still generally considered less of a risk than unprotected intercourse.
So again, we're talking about a spectrum of risk. This is why there will be no absolute answer of high vs. low risk of giving oral sex. But we can say that HIV has now been found to be transmitted by giving oral sex -- especially if there is ejaculation -- but not receiving oral sex.

Well, we have given you much of the science by which we reach our conclusions. You are free to believe or disbelieve whom you will. I am certainly not getting into a pissing match with thebody.com.

Thing is, their advice and conclusions often contradict each other, and Dr. Bob is one of the worst offenders. But it seems that you are not looking for first tiered, peer-reviewed science, but fuel for your fear. IMHO, you need look no further than thebody.com for that.

Ale,

Further to what JK said (and I totally agree with) if you don't trust the science behind oral sex, then stop doing it. Go test three months after whatever oral incident is worrying you, collect your negative result and move on with your life.

If you continue to post here over the same thing, you will be given the time out that Rod warned you about.

Ale,

I just rejected the new account you attempted to create. If you'd read the Welcome thread like you've been asked to, you would know that having multiple accounts is a bannable offence.

Not only that, but I had to remove your PM privileges yesterday because you insisted on using them to ask questions, something else that is forbidden in the Welcome Thread. You would not have been able to see my PM telling you of this here on the forum, but I know you would have had an email and you would have read my message there.

All things considered, I don't think you have listened to a single thing that's been said to you and you seem to think you're above our rules. So with that in mind, I'm banning you.
