Life's shitty stick just broke across my back
« on: July 21, 2010, 02:12:59 PM »
I wish I could describe the last five months (or even longer now I know why I felt so shit for so long) as a lark but then again, we can't kid ourselves. It's not even the "roller coaster" its described as. More like the log flume where you just go down and down and down and get piss soaking wet! But, the past few weeks have been different. The suns coming out and I'm drying off after my ill advised ride on that flume.

I have to say, I've never really been a positive mental attitude kind of person, but things are looking up.....like...I'm thrilled I have just gotten my MA degree this week! If i knew I was seroconverting when I was trying to finish it and working a 60 hour week, believe me I would have given up. Challenging wasn't the word.

I've started to drop my HIV obsession and I'm developing new outlooks. Yeah, there's still all the health related concern that goes with our three lettered friend but I'm relaxing and it feels good. I'm going for sustainability with all of this now.

That stick was big and boy was it brown and I've taken a beating from it every day for too long now, but I honestly think I just heard it snap.  ;D

Kiddo.

ps. I reserve the right to be back on here as an emotional wreck when I get my next results. ;) ;)

Congrats on the degree!! That's got to make you feel great. And now, you get to master your mind...perhaps one of the biggest challenges.

See you soon with those numbers.

Thanks Gym. The exercise regime has also just started. I'm giving serious consideration to sticking your profile pic on the fridge too!  ;) :D

The pendulum is swinging the other way for you now!  Its great to read that things are looking up for you Realist.  Life certainly does not end for us HIV positive men/women because of the diagnosis we receive.  It presents a challenge for sure but other things in live such as advancing education, meeting new and exciting people, or climbing the corporate ladder (if thats your 'cup of tea') does not cease.

Just like your screen name implies, being the realist you already know this of course.  Congrats!

Congrats on the degree.  Combining stubborn with determined works wonders.

Even a log flume levels out eventually.  You'll find the ladder next and begin to ascend into new territory.  The most important thing to remember when the wind picks up and disturbs your picnic is that it will blow itself out eventually.  Have patience and see yourself through to the future.  :)
Don't obsess over the wrong things.  Life isn't about your numbers, it isn't about this forum, it isn't about someone's opinion.  It's about getting out there and enjoying it.   I am a person with HIV - not the other way around.

Good to hear you're life is on the up-swing.

Same here. I was diagnosed 2 months into writing my M.A. thesis. Had surgery a year later. Found out parents were splitting up three months after that. Found out my boyfriend was poz too. Started meds a short time after that. Broke up with said boyfriend and was piss poor the whole time.

Now things seem to have turned around 180. Crazy how the only consistency is inconsistency.

Hotpuppy: Love the picnic analogy. It just goes to show how all our parades are eventually rained on.
