First week on Truvada 200mg+Reyataz 300mg+Norvir 100mg
« on: July 10, 2010, 11:48:45 PM »
Hello again,

I posted a while ago just before I was supposed to start Atripla. Long story short, I asked and was switched to the above regimen because of my crazy shift work and the problems taking Atripla would have caused. I had a full unopened 30 day supply of Atripla which my doctor gladly took off me to hopefully help someone else out.

Okay so I've been on Truvada 200mg+Reyataz 300mg+Norvir 100mg for about a week now. Was very emotional that first dose, taking 3 horse pills all at once half way through my dinner. I had this mental image of all these chemicals exploding to life in my body and was waiting for some kind of reaction, but nothing thankfully happened at all to my relief. When I woke up after the first dose my eyes were, and still are, very much yellow with jaundice. I hope this effect goes away. I also think right or wrong that my liver must be struggling if it's pumping out so much bullirubin to cause this effect. Yes it's a small side effect and I do feel quite lucky to only have this one side effect so far. Does anyone know if this goes away? I've heard of another option of 400mg instead of 300mg of Reyataz without the Norvir booster, and if the numbers are okay in a few weeks I hope I can do this minor switch hopefully to get rid of the jaundice. Have a fol ow up in a couple of weeks to check bloods, fingers crossed. Peace to everyone and thanks for letting me get this out there, this forum has been the greatest resource I have found and I feel like I'm not alone, thanks...

It's the Reyataz that causes the jaundice, so dropping the Norvir probably isn't the answer.

And yes, it usually goes away within a week or so.

Thanks Ann,

Typical case of information overload I guess. I thought maybe because the Norvir boosted the other drugs that Reyataz unboosted 400mg (instead of 300mg boosted with Norvir) might be the better. Somewhere I've read that this is an option once bloods are good, and would mean 2 pills once a day instead of 3.
Good to know the yellow eyes is temporary. Cheers...

Reyataz can be taken with Epzicom without the Norvir boost but with Truvada it needs the Norvir boost because Truvada by itself lowers Reyataz levels.

Still dealing with the yellow eyes, a few people have noticed and asked why...

Hope it goes away...But feel lucky no other side effects so far..fingers crossed...bloods next week..

Seems to fade after 12 hours post dosing , then comes back 12 hrs after taking the pills.

Peace....

Oh hell yeah!!

Was going to ask next week when I go in for a 3 month supply after the initial 1 month supply I was given.

And no more separate pill containers for the fridge!!

Did you get yellow eyes? Geez when this goes away I'll feel much better!!!

Hasn't even been a month yet, so I guess I need to be a bit more patient.....

Pozoz, sorry to hear you're having a problem.  I sometimes get yellowing too, but only after using poppers.  Others have reported that alcohol can bring it on.

There may be something that you eat, drink, or inhale that you can stop or change that will make a difference.  If you're taking non-HIV drugs at the same time maybe you can change the dosing schedule.

Also exposure to sunlight can help.  Or maybe your body just needs to adjust.  Good luck finding a solution.  That regimen has been very tolerable for me except for the yellowing.

Ive been on the Truvada/Reyataz/Norvir mix for about 18 months and no longer have any side effects. In the beginning I had some digestive problems but that settled down. I tried sustiva before that and thought I was losing my mind. I was dizzy and confused and couldnt concentrate. I remember being at work and counting the same stack of money about 10 times. I was glad to get rid of that one. My bilirubin levels are high, but I guess not high enough to cause the jaundiced eyes. It gets easier and easier.

Thanks everyone for the feedback,
BillyB, I opted to not even attempt Atripla after weeks of thinking about it.

At the end of the day my work schedule and hours would have caused some issues, after discussing with doc he agreed. I didn't get any hassles when I showed up 2 weeks after getting a month's worth of Atripla (was unopened and is being put to use by someone who needs it I'm told) and getting a months worth of Truvada +Reyataz +Norvir.

This combo has been very well tolerated overall, with the just the jaundice an issue. It well may be linked to other things such as alcohol and other drugs, as some days, and more good then bad this last week my eyes are totally fine with no yellowing. I'm feeling now it's not going to be a long term thing, which is awesome as every bit of good news now seems REALLY good LOL.

I'm drinking at least 3 litres of water a day which may be helping too. Oh and getting As much winter sun as possible down here too...Bring on summer.

Overall this combo has been good for me, no other side effects at all. Thanks all.. Peace..

Hi,

I've been sucessfull on this combo I find very practical to take given the low number of pills, the once a day and the possibility to take it at home in the morning with breakfast. Should I add it is practical to take (I am taking it between 5 am and 10 am because of my job). Everything is fine.
As I had trouble to sleep I switched Truvada for Epzicom almost 2 weeks ago. Alas no change in sleeping problem ...  So I now pay a weekly visit to a shrink.
At the very beginning, first 2 months, I had some slight yellowing in the eyes. Only people who knew would pay attention (DOC, BF). I have brown eyes so it may not be as obvious as if you are blue eyed. Since then it is visible from time to time depending on how many drink I had the night before  ::)
My bilirubine is high as well but strange enough it decreases in my last labs (I had 4 in December, in April just 2.3).
I also had some digestion problems (GAS) then I found out that by stopping muesli in the morning and taking bran flakes solves 100% the problem (well, it took me 5 months to find this out, I was miserable).
And yes I like the new norvir too, small and does not melt. This is great stuff.
I forgot the fat stuff. I got the fat redistribution problem. How did i figure out :  I have the same weight than a year ago but I am not able to close any of the trousers I bought last august, 2 inches are missing. So I am actively working out hoping that it will disappear.
I suggest you stop immediately sweets  ;)

Take care
