Scandi Shakes

Anyone try or have any luck with these?  I ordered a free sample and plan to make him a vanilla shake later today.  600 calories, fingers crossed he will drink it.

The issue isn't so much the number of calories, the issue is what those calories comprise.  How much fat vs. carbs vs. protein.  From what I can find this product only has 5g of protein, and some even less, and 440 calories.  That's laughable.  You need to take him to a nutritionist that deals with this issue, any HIV specialist will have someone to recommend.  The nutritionist will do a lean body mass analysis, and then can discuss the proper breakdown of fat/carb/protein supplement to look for, but you're going to find the widest selection at a store selling things like protein shakes for bodybuilding if the nutritionist wants a high protein source.  For comparison the EAS Myoplex I discussed in the other thread, while having only 300 calories, those have 42g of protein and 22g of carbs.

What else did your father's HIV specialist say about HIV wasting?  Did he not discuss the use of testosterone therapy, specifically bi-weekly shots (as opposed to a gel or patch product) which would stimulate appetite?  I can understand if the doctor wants to wait a month to get the patient used to taking Atripla and adjust to a new diagnosis, but I would also think he would have at least initiated a discussion of what can be offered.

I looked at the shake package and you are right about the 5g of protein.  With whole milk,  it would total 13g.  At this point,  he is eating little to nothing,  so I am just trying to get anything into him.  I had some luck with Isopure,  I will pick up the Myoplex tomorrow,  can you add it to fruit juice?   He is taking 60mg of megestrol,  but that is not helping a whole lot.  His doc is hesitant to up dosage since there are questionable lesions on his liver (although after two biopsies they are not cancerous),  but still undetermined but his liver function is normal.   I guess I am just wanting him to eat ANYTHING right now,  all his doc say calories are king.   My dad has yet to try the shake. I tried it,  a little sweet but better than ensure IMO.  Thanks for the advice about Myoplex,  I need all the help I can get.  Thanks.

When I used Myoplex I mixed it with whole milk and fruits in a blender, but you'll have to read the packaging -- I think you can also mix it with water, so I would think juice would work too.  I just can't recall as it's been six years since I had a wasting issue.  I never was on megestrol so I can't comment.  You could always buy some pot if you know where to do this.
