Whoa! Not So Good Lab Results
« on: June 24, 2010, 01:50:13 PM »
Went to get my numbers today and was a bit shocked:  cd 4 dropped from 920 to 450, though vl was down to 60 and cd% only down slightly to 25.  My doc didn't seem to concerned, as my total lymphocyte count which usually runs high had dropped to a more normal level of 1.8 instead of 3.5.

Still I can't help but be shocked by the drop to my lowest cd4 ever.  Would time of day partly explain this?  Usually I have the draw later afternoon, but because this was fasting I had it done in the morning.

Oh yeah, my blood sugar and cholesterol counts were high too. Though its been awhile since I've had those done and I'm fatter than I used to be. :(

Another way to look at it is that the 920 result was abnomally high for your history.  And that 450 isn't much lower than 510 and 480, which you've had in the past year.  And that 25% is your second-best result for that category in over 4 years.

And also that a viral load of 60 sounds pretty sweet.  Looks like the meds are working for you.  No need to sweat the other numbers unless it becomes a trend over time.

CD4 counts do tend to be lower in the morning.

Also what Mr Moon said.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Hi there

I agree with Ann and moon, I don't think you have anything to worry about, don't stress over this.

Have a great weekend.
