FORUMS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO NEW SERVER
« on: May 18, 2010, 12:10:28 PM »
We've moved the Forums to a new server, on account of the various hack problems we've been dealing with as of recent.

We're still working out various (fortunately minor) kinks. I apologize for any inconveniences these kinks may cause.

Please not that the URL currently listed (forums-poz.pozforums.com) is only temporary. The DNS change will go into effect shortly.

PLEASE -- if anyone experiences any specific problems, do not hesitate to mention them in this thread. The sooner we hear from everyone, the faster we'll be able to remedy the situation.

Again, I apologize for the headaches in recent weeks and for any frustrations the server changeover may cause. This was absolutely necessary and I'd appreciate everyone's patience while we finalize this process.

Tim

Thanks Mr Tim!
Thanks for all the hard work you've put in keeping the forums up and running, and for trying so hard to protect us from those bastard hackers. ;) ;D I was staying away a bunch because my antivirus program was going wacky warning me about the site. Between that and there not being enough sun today to hang out by the pool, I was really beginning to suffer from withdrawal symptoms; but I'm doing much better now, thanks to you.

I initially had a few glitches with style sheet issues but as I've reloaded or refreshed the pages, everything has been working out hunky dory. (Even SpellCheck is working). I did however have to click the IE compatibility button again to get the text box to quit jumping as I typed this.  ;) I was kinda surprised at all the people reporting the glitches (weird font size, etc) and not mentioning that their virus scanners were giving warnings. Oh well, that is how I make money as the ComputerTutor though - by fixing machines that weren't protected right in the first place.  :D

Thanks again Tim! :-*

edited to add this PS

PS spellcheck doesn't recognize the word "meds" or "Atripla" though

Thanks Tim!  I can only imagine what a headache it must've been to deal with the recent issues... :)

Thanks Guys.

Fingers crossed that we don't experience any server breaches for a good long while. So far, things seem to be working rather well; over the next few days, I'll be straightening out some lingering UTF-8 problem, the DNS propagation/URL redirect and minor template problems.

You don't have to worry about bookmarking this new URL above. We'll be back to forums.poz.com soon enough.

Again, if anyone experiences any problems, please post 'em here.

Another thing -- something that won't please many of you, but it's essential:

I'm going to keep the avatar and image upload feature disabled, at least until we have a better sense as to what was happening. It's possible that malicious code was being uploaded to the server in the form of a phony image file. This has been documented by several other SMF admins and its possible that it was the root cause of our woes here.

Onward and upward,

Tim

Thank goodness!

One thing I've noticed - and it's not a "problem" per-se - but I had to go into my profile and change the time offset from +5 to +7. I was getting confused when new approvals were turning up and it looked like they'd been sitting there for two hours, when I knew full well I'd just approved (or rejected) an account during that time. I get confused enough on my own without getting help like that. :D

Otherwise, everything seems to be fine. YAY!!!

hey, thanks for that heads up. :-* that explains why the times looked goofy. It remembered that I had new posts at the top (which is way easier than scrolling thru all the posts I've already read in all the threads); but it didn't remember the time offset. :D all in all, not a bad change over at all.  ;)

but I think spellcheck is not up to speed though. It doesn't like words like "meds", "cd4", and "Atripla". I mean it never liked "mikie" but that's okay, as long as it keeps telling me "boner" for "john boehner" ROFL

edited to add that spellcheck doesn't like the work "Norvir" either.
