Do trolls exist on here? Each discussion forum I look at, weather its a dating site or not, I always spot a troll. Why do trolls do what they do? I remember once I got told to stop trolling a forum when I was just asking a question. How is that trolling?

Just pickle trolls with a barrel of salt like I always do. No need to take offence. It happens to the best of us. You gotta have a sense of humor in any forum. Everyone's built differently. ;)

This is from Wikipedia's article on trolls and trolling:

Quote
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional  response[1]  or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]  In addition to the offending poster, the noun “troll” can also refer to the provocative message itself, as in that was an excellent troll you posted. While the term troll and its associated action, trolling, are primarily associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels highly subjective, with trolling  being used to describe many intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context.

If someone accused you of being a troll, it's because s/he felt that you were being either unduly provocative or more than a little disingenuous, or both.

My years of participation on internet message boards have taught me that there is never a satisfactory response to trolling other than completely ignoring it. Trolls live for attention and they will (eventually) get bored and seek greener fields elsewhere.

And, yes: we've had trolls here at AIDSmeds before. There's a special spot in hell for types who would troll a place established for the support and education of those effected by chronic conditions and terminal illnesses; I'm sure of it.
Blessed with brains, talent and gorgeous tits.

I sometimes have trouble identifying trolls, particularly on news websites or facebook. For example, there are people who will work an anti-liberal rant into almost any political topic. I don't think they are all trying to be inflammatory but they often come off that way.

Wow.  He's not calling people names he's identifying you as a troll and honestly I wouldn't disagree with his choice of labels for you.  If you really don't think you are one just put him on ignore and utilize these forums for whatever reason you choose.  Although honestly if you're looking to avoid being called a troll or being accused of flaming I can point out what in your previous post is bad n-etiquette.

1) "I'm a troll how?"  That sentence reeks of attitude, if you really don't want him to point it out just ask in another less impolite way.  'Why do you think I am a troll?'  might be a good start.

2) "Calling someone a troll is offensive matty"  He didn't call someone a troll, he called you a troll.  Perhaps 'I wish you wouldn't call me a troll'.

3) "I would appreciate if you wouldn't call people names".  Once again you're deflecting, you're not defending someone else, he was speaking directly to you although this time you did say 'You would appreciate' which is on the right path!  I personally would have ended it with 'I would appreciate if you didn't call me a troll'.  You can then add some sort of frowny emoticon to show everyone that you're upset.

That definition of trolls sounds like a flamebaiter.

Here's "a troll" for this discussion (goes offtopic....)

"Trolls" are the over 40 guys who cruise young men. Not the studly daddies.  The average to seedy types who know no shame.  (living under the bridge types, literally or figuratively)

Anyway, that's how I learned the nomenclature when I was a hot twink.  And we thought it was vulgar, annoying and pathetic.  (Which is why I am bewildered now that I am single and troll age at the number of guys my age who only want twinks???  How f*cking deluded is this!)

So now the nomenclature is just a meme, Troll.

Troll - annoying distracting people/practices on a online forum.

"Don't feed the trolls"  - very good advice.   Just like you were asking for trouble if you were kinda nice to the troll in the bar, cause as they were shamelessly interested in fucking you, and you had already decided they were a troll, and thus not fuckable, its starts a process that can go nowhere.

"Meme-theorists contend that memes evolve by natural selection (in a manner analogous to that of biological evolution) through the processes of variation, mutation, competition, and inheritance  influencing an individual meme's reproductive success. Memes spread through the behaviors that they generate in their hosts. Memes that propagate  less prolifically may become extinct, while others may survive, spread, and (for better or for worse) mutate. Theorists point out that memes which replicate the most effectively spread best, and some memes may replicate effectively even when they prove detrimental to the welfare of their hosts.[5]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme

See don't feed the troll because that the behaviour the toll wants.

Of course, one person's Troll is another's compatriot, or fascinating conversationalist.

Rachel Maddow did a good takedown on the Tea Party meme the other day.  You see, they are trolling the politcal process.  Politicians and news media keep feeding them.  You have a tea party demonstration of 500 people and it makes all the headlines. (but "100,000 people marching to stop puppy killing wouldn't make page 6!") They say irrational hypocritical stuff and normally rational people take it seriously by considering the statements.

A lot of them look like classic "trolls" by the way.

Swiss trolls are filled with third-rate vidande des grisons (beef jerky), processed fondue from a foil pack, alcohol and cigarette smoke.

Party of Jesus Bathroom Troll Drops Appeal
January 8th, 2009

Convicyed Party of Jesus Bathroom Troll Larry Craig is not gay and he never has been gay

Convicted Party of Jesus bathroom troll and Family Values supporter, former US Senator Larry Craig, has dropped his appeal to overturn his confessed guilt in a bathroom trolling incident at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.

The former Senator, who is not gay and never has been gay, previously plead guilty and signed paperwork admitting that he was guilty of activities in a now famous restroom that were interpreted as solicitation to engage in man to man sex. He is not gay. He never has been gay. He simply has a wide stance. And let's not forget that the former Senator has got teh family values too!

Mr Craig has become a celebrity, and he was even honored by the St Paul Saints baseball team with a Larry Craig Bobblefoot Day. The team said that it was a "tribute to all their toe-tapping friends and fans from around the nation who may ever have set foot in Minneapolis-St. Paul… even for just a change of planes."

This is not to be confused with the Larry Craig Action Figure.

In summary, former Senator Larry Craig was guilty when he said he was guilty, he was still guilty when he said he was not guilty and appealed his own admission of his own guilt, and now that he has dropped his I'm not guilty appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court he is still guilty. And he is not gay. And he never has been gay. He just likes to provide oral service to strangers in public restrooms. Oh, and he has Party of Jesus brand Family Values too. Got it?

Are you confirmed HIV positive?

One rather doubts that.  We all have our sins, but if Matty suffers from an excess of vapid self regard it must be his cherished secret sin -- it certainly is not evident in his postings on these forums.

Maybe I decided to go back to school later on. I'm sorry I have to be a certain age in order to be in pre-med. Sheesh! I'm done with the semestar and almost done with my undergrad. I want to be an I.D.after med school is done. Why is everyone so hostile to me here? I'm not here to start trouble. And the rules says anyone who isn't confirmed positive, can only post in amif or this forum. I am well within my rights to post here

OP is not One of Us.

But it's true he's allowed to post in Orf Torpic if he wants. Why he'd want to is a mystery.
