Ed's Mom
« on: August 29, 2009, 07:33:09 AM »

Went into the hospital again, last night around 10:00 .  Low blood pressure, the doctor is not ruling out sepsis, but she may also have a bladder infection. We will be going to the hospital this morning to see what those blood tests show.  She's been pulling the IV's out of her arms.   Not good...

Ray, I'm happy to move it for you. I'll put it in LTS because that's where you first posted about Ed's mom.

I'm really sorry to hear that she's no better. I'll keep all three of you in my thoughts. Please take care of yourself!

Hugs,
Ann

Pegs blood pressure is back up in the normal range.  They are pumping her with Antibiotics. Seems to be some problem with the kidneys.  Has a bladder and UTI.

She seems to be in quite a lot of pain. But they are giving her pain medication. There is no comfortable position for her to be in.  Her bones are just so fragile. We tried to get her to have a little bit of breakfast this morning, but that was impossible.  She did have some orange juice and coffee, but not much.

She has lost quite a bit of weight .  I am having a problem trying to understand her. We're going to be heading back over to the hospital in a little while.

Thanks Ann and Betty----Ray

Hi Ray

Sorry to hear this, poor mum seems to be going through a really tough time doesn't she.

If she has Sepsis then this could explain why she is/was pulling out her IV, (I had this happen many times with patients) it can cause a great deal of confusion and can make he very agiatated and angry, it also messes up the urinary tract and kidneys..hence the UTI's

I'm glad she is on pain managment and hope it's working because sepsis can cause a fair bit of pain, especially in the back, hips and knees, so it's understandable she can't find a good posistion to lie/sleep in.

Thinking of you all and hope the pain subsides soon.

Hugs
Jan :-*

Thanks Jan,

It looks as though they have most of the infection under control.  Yesterday she was more coherant. She ate half a tuna sandwich and a bowl of soup.

She seems a lot more comfortable then she was. Still has an IV.

Still some problem with the blood pressure.  The have her feet a little higher up in the bed then her head.  But she is comfortable.

They are talking discharge, and then oral antibiotics, when she gets back to the nursing home.  I just got home from work a little while ago, Ed wasn't here. I am assuming he's back at the hospital.

Thanks Everyone,...

Ed and I thank you all for your thoughts. Ed's mom was 85 years old, and dealing with late stage Alzheimer's . She also had other health issues, including heart issues.  She went peacefully in her sleep early around 6:00 this morning.

She never forgot our  names or faces , but her short and long term memory were almost completely gone.  The past few weeks, her appetite was  diminished, and she was eating very little. She was so frail, and there was was hardly any weight on her.  This is very typical of late stage Alzheimer's. She was never in any discomfort or pain, and always  spoke highly of those that were taking care of her.

It was such a transition for her, those first couple of months, when Ed and his sister decided that she needed full time care.  She was no longer safe in her home, when they decided last June , to get her into a nursing facility.

She will be cremated, and her ashes spread in the Gulf of Mexico.

RIP -Margaret (Peg)

Thanks again... Ray
