Treatment upon diagnosis is the preference in Geneva Switzerland too. But not in every Swiss Canton.

I wonder why they say that a year's worth of HIV meds can cots $12,000? That would be a bargain. The reality is that it's about double that amount (or more if taking more than 3 drugs, which a lot of LTR and people with resistant virus are doing).

My Atripla bottle shows $1,173 for 30 days supply.  So in that sense they're not too far off...

Aren't you in Canada? Are you talking Canadian dollars? I guess the exchange rate is about even now so it's just probably cheaper in Canada since the gov't probably negotiates it or regulates it somehow.

My meds, Isentress and Truvada are $1842.55 per month at a discounted rate; the actual retail price is $2280.35 (drugstore.com). I think that's the ballpark price for most 3-drug combos.

Others here have said Atripla costs about $1800./month

On Drugstore.com Atripla is $1825.72 retail price and they offer a 6% discount (woo hoo).

Yes, here in BC the BC Centre for Excellence In HIV handles the distribution of all HIV meds, so I expect you're right, they can negotiate a good price.  The loonie is now at par with the US$ (yay), so it s a bit shocking there is such a difference in price.  ???
