I know, I know, it's only numbers, but....
« on: December 22, 2009, 04:18:58 PM »
 :)

Just to let you all know, I received my blood tests results from the doctors office today. I had my final labs drawn on December 2nd,09.   The only test done were CD-4 and Vial load, and %

I've been anxiously awaiting these results, because on October 19th,09 ,  I decided to stop taking Viread, and only stay on Epzicom and Viramune. This was discussed with my ID doctor.

See here :   http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=29722.0

I am happy  to say, that the Viral load remains <48  and the t-cells are 392, with a % @ 13% !! The % went down from 14%

I am not concerned though. It's been constantly up and down, by a least a percentage point or two, for quite a while.

I also have my ID doctor appointment set up with the VA on Monday December 28 @9:00 AM. This will be at the Main building , 5th Floor at Bay pines St. Pete. So, I am anxious for that , and also prepared, with all the necessary documentation and files from my doctor.

I already had my Primary care (VA) appointment on December 9th. This was just a short distance, from where I live. She could not order the HIV medications.  This is restricted through the ID doctor , that I will be seeing next Monday. She also wanted to schedule a Colonoscopy, but I wanted to hold off on that until I see the HIV specialist.

The VA clinic in Dunedin, Fl ( about two miles south from me) has relocated to a new building  2 miles north in Palm Harbor with 9,000 more square feet. I have another  appointment scheduled with the primary care on January 12th.

My blood pressure has been high.  When I was at the VA primary care, it was 161 /101.  I've been monitoring it here at home( since that visit) and it's been around 128/89

On December 9th,  The Primary care VA ( at the Clinic)  decided to start me on 40mgs of Simvastatin.  However, the pills are 80mgs, and they sent me a pill splitter for that purpose. I started that on December 20th

I have more than enough HIV  meds to hold me over, until I get the first shipment through the VA. I am good probably until the end of March. It pays to order meds ahead of time !!

The main thing is, at least on the the blood tests on December 2nd , I am still undetectable.  Also , the 392 t-cells ,  is the highest that number has been since starting meds on October of 2003.

Hopefully that will continue !!!  Everything seems to be on track and so far going smoothly with the VA.  But ( I found out ) there is a little bit of follow up and follow through with the VA, But I am not complaining at all !!

Ray

Ray, great news on the T-cells and viral load!  But I hope your blood pressure comes down.  Did the doctor say how long to monitor, in case you need to start meds for it?  I mean, you don't want to blow a gasket or anything.  Just concerned is all.  Again, congrats on the good numbers! :-*

Great news Ray,

If this is the first episode of high blood pressure it could be a case of "White Coat Syndrome" My BP is always through the roof when I go to the Doctors and then at home it drops by 30 points or more.
128/89 is not a bad number at all. It's considered borderline high.

The other numbers are encouraging and it's great news that the VA will be assuming your health care and the costs associated with it. Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy 2010

Hey Ray,

That is great news!  ;D

Sounds like you will be doing OK with the VA. That is also good to hear.

I know a sigh of relief was probably in order when you saw those numbers.

Just a quick update... ( I'm a little tired this morning)

I've been pretty busy this past week.  I had my appointment at the VA on Monday, and all went well. The doctor wasn't in, but I did meet with the nurse practitioner.

We had a very good discussion. I presented all my medical history.( she stated that I kept very good files) We went over everything. She seems very knowledgeable, and is one of 5 that treat those with HIV, at Bay Pines.  There are 2 ID doctors and 3 practitioners.

They took a chest X-Ray on Monday , also gave me a tetanus shot. All my other shots are current. I met with a pharmacy representative. She ordered my meds, and said they should arrive in the mail, in about ten days or so.

I also met with a Social worker from Ryan White ( works in the VA) ,  and she signed me up on the Ryan White program.  This should cover all VA co-pays, including dental. ( but I kept my dental insurance at work), so I won't be needing that at the moment.

Finally, I had to do an " In person authentication".  This is so I can view my prescriptions on the VA web site, and eventually, view some medical records.  As I understand it, the VA is still working on that portion of the site , and it's not available yet.

I also had them scan into the computer,  My advance directive and Durable power of attorney for health care and living will.

Once again,  I was very pleased how smooth everything went.  It went like clockwork !  I was in and out, in about three hours. The professionalism was outstanding !

Ed was with me on Monday, every step of the way.  He was also, once again, very impressed.  He couldn't believe how organized everything was. I didn't have more than a five minute wait, anywhere I went !

Nick

Thanks Nick,

The VA primary care doctor, at the clinic, will be monitoring the blood pressure and cholesterol. That appointment, is still set for Jan 12th.  All other blood tests will be done at the main building. Those blood test are scheduled for February. ( I have to verify that appt.)

When she checked the BP , this past Monday, it was only slightly elevated, and no where near as high as it was at the clinic. We'll be watching it.  I don't even want to start another medication if I can avoid it !

I really need to exercise more.  This desk job I have, doesn't help. On my old job, I was constantly on the go.

:D Ray, you so funny sometimes.  I don't think any of us thought we were forgotten we are just glad things are working out.  Keep us updated on the BP & cholesterol.  I know mine was high at my last visit but he didn't have a complete breakdown of Good & Bad cholesterol so I'll find that out on my next visit in Feb.  High cholesterol runs in my family.  My mother who eats right is 5'2 and 120lbs has very high cholesterol so I'm really hoping on this one I got my fathers genes!

Thanks Randy,

I've got fasting blood tests, scheduled for tomorrow.  There also going to wire me up for an EKG.

I had my appointment on the 28th of December, and received my meds on the 4th of January.  That was quick !

I have another follow up appointment on the 19th of January ( probably to discuss the results of the blood tests from tomorrow.

Will also find out if blood pressure medication, will be needed. I've got a feeling....

Also had a very nice letter from the social worker for Ryan White, that I met in the VA.  Stated how much of a pleasure it was to meet with Ed and myself.  Had two more forms to fill out, and I had to get a couple more blood tests sent to her, showing a detectable viral load, and/ or a positive test result.

So, I got those mailed out last week.

Good luck with the latest tests, Ray. Here's hoping they continue in the direction of the numbers last month.

It's also good to read that you're getting responsive care in general.

Cheers!

Another Update...

I had cholesterol checked on the 12th of January, and went back in on the 19th to discuss those results.

Cholesterol dropped down to 205 from 257 from previous test on 11/19/09. The doctor was pleased with that. So it looks as though the 40mgs daily of Simvastatin is working.

Other results ;

TRIG:---- 61

HDLC:----60

LDCALC:133----  Refe. range is less than 130

TC/HDLC 3.4----  Ref. range : less than < 5

We rescheduled the CD4, viral load , and chemical profile tests for February 22nd. The results of those test will be discussed on March 29th.  The doctor stated that if anything doesn't seem right with those tests,  I will be called in prior to March 29th.

Blood pressure was also good !! So, no need to start any new medication for that.

My primary care (at the clinic) Is scheduling a colonoscopy for me, at Bay Pines.  I just called the the VA, and an appointment with a gastro enterologist has been set for Friday February 12th.

I've also just ordered a refill on my HIV meds, and had no problem. They will be mailed.

The Simvastatin won't be mailed until January 29th.  I was trying to set it up so all would be mailed together, maybe next time.

I received a bill for the meds. $16.00 for the simvastain. Since the simvastatin(80mgs)  is split in half, and a 30 day supply actually last two months,  there was two co-pays of $8.00

The HIV medication was $16.00.

Everything is going pretty well so far.

Next big thing will be the colonoscopy.  I've already informed work, that I will need time off, but was unable to corfirm the date, will find that out on February 12th.

Hi Ray

Looks like the move to the VA has been seemless and you're getting quality care.  Really good care.

I don't know if you've had a colonoscopy before, but just wanted to offer my experience.

I put it off for over a year.  It was the last thing I wanted to do.

But you know what?

There's really nothing to it.  You probably won't remember a thing.

They give you drugs--really good drugs.   ;)  (Though you might be given the option of being awake to see it on a monitor--which I absolutely refused!)

The only thing that I hated was getting ready for it   ::), thank God I had the privacy of my own bathroom!  LOL

But in the end (no pun intended), being proactive and knowing that everything is probably O.K. is worth it.

Glad things are working out so well with the change.

Hi Rab,

I was supposed to get one scheduled after I had those warts removed from the anal area back in May.  I kept putting it off.

I'm already for this, She also wanted to make sure there were no more warts.    I've done my own examination and  haven't noticed anything more on the exterior,( she didn't see anything either) and I don't think there is any problem with the interior, except that it's getting old !!  :P

The doctor also checked the prostate, the other week, and said it feels very normal.

Thanks----Ray

Well....

I have the appointment for consultation with the gastroenterologist tomorrow morning at 9:00.

Supposed to be in St. Pete by 8:30,  so it will be be a little rush for me, as I have to work until 7:00 in the morning.

I'll have just enough time to get home, take a quick shower, try to catch a second wind, and then head out the door again.  Ed will be with me tomorrow.

Hopefully I will get the date set tomorrow  for the colonoscopy . I've also been having some slight pain the lower abdominal area. I will make sure to mention that to him tomorrow also.

Everything went well today !! Once again, excellent professionalism from the VA. Everyone, should get this kind of care!! It just blows my mind.  Such a change from the private sector,.. having people with their hands out, asking for money first, before the even do anything. My stress and anxiety levels have dropped considerably, since getting into the VA system. Makes one realize even more, just how much we need health care reform in this country, and need it soon, like yesterday !!

We arrived at the VA, at 8:15,  I was called in for vitals about 5 minutes after checking in.  Blood pressure was a little high again.

She rechecked it again about 20 minutes later and it was better. My weight has also gone up some.  I am now at 182 pounds. (5' 7')  The weight gain didn't surprise me, I monitor that weekly, and it seems that after I stopped taking the Viread, in October, was when the weight started coming on. ( not sure if stopping viread has anything to do with that but... Hmmmm .

We both met with a nurse practitioner, and discussed the entire procedure in detail. After telling her about the slight lower abdominal pain, she had me take my shirt off, and pull my pants down some, where she poked and prodded me again.  She didn't seem to think, that anything felt wrong. She also checked around the area where I had my hernia in 2002, And said nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. We had a very detailed discussion.

The colonoscopy is scheduled for Friday, March 5th @ 8:00 am. I was actually, able to pick the day I wanted. They do  colonoscopies at the VA Monday through Friday.

I will take off Thursday March the 4th, so I can prep, and I will have the weekend, to just take it easy. This fits into my schedule very well. The solution for cleaning me out, will be mailed to me in a few days.

Bottoms up----Ray  :)

Gee Mark
I thought the prep to be pretty straight forward....you take the stuff as directed and you sit on the toilet off and on for next few hours.
Cleaning out is really important since they will not complete the proceedure if you are not cleaned out properly.  Then you have reschedule and go through the whole thing all over again.
Story about "cleaning out":  The proceedure I did was accompanied by lots of ginger ale. Just think of it as ginger ale fizz, high colonic!
Another story about cleaning out:  Wow, the combination of being cleaned out and high on the anesthesia (post proceedure) was really too good.  I had the best sleep in years.  Now I know why Michael Jackson used that stuff to sleep.

So...enjoy.

Joel's right about the positive (sic) benefits of being both cleaned out (you'll feel lighter than a feather), and the anesthesia.  That stuff (anasthesia) is wonderful.  I asked for a doggy bag to take some home,  they declined unfortunately.   >:(

But seriously Ray, I know it can be a little intimidating, but it's really not that bad.  (Except for the prep of course.)

Here's hoping everything turns out fine.

Update:

Had my HIV blood tests done on Monday. ( At clinic) The guy drawing the blood said " Wow, there really doing a workup on you. "

Those results will be discussed o March 29th, unless they see something going on, and call me in before then.

They took 8 vials this time. None of these test had anything to do with cholesterol.

Update

I went to Bay Pines VAMC yesterday.  Had a 9:00 am appointment. received my blood test results, from 2/22/10.  Unfortunately, they lost my viral load test, so I had to go back down to labs, and have it retaken.

I am going to have to do some follow up after these tests are done !! Misplacing( or whatever they did, with the viral load) didn't make me happy !   As some of you remember, I stopped Viread on October 15th. So, even though I was <48 on tests taken on December 2nd,  there hasn't been a viral load, since that time.

Cd-4 went down from 392 to 320

Some of the other results are:

CD-8 ----1592 (normal range 144-796)

CD-3---2118 (normal range-688-1955

THELP%----15  ( Normal range---52-66)

CD4: CD8  0.20  ( Normal Range--- .83-6.1)

All of my other liver and kidney function test were within range.  There were two  that I am not sure of that were not in range:

NE% 38.5 L (normal range 39.3--73.5)

LY%--51.0 H   Normal range---16.2 -  48.2

Anyway the doctor told me it may take as long as 3 weeks to get the Viral load results
I was also informed that the VA uses a viral load test that measures only 78 and below.

I have fasting blood tests set up with the primary ( at the clinic) on April 8th,  and a follow up consultation on April 16th. These tests will be for cholesterol etc.

Received the results today for the Viral load that was taken on March 29th, because they lost the one from February 22nd.

< 75, so I am considered undetectable.  So I am happy about that.

Also discussed today with the Primary care ( at the clinic) was cholesterol.  It went back up, so it looks as though, I will have to go back on 40 mgs a day of simvastin instead of the 20mg.

She also arranged an appointment, with a dermatologist.  I have  a couple areas that need to be frozen or scraped.

Overall, a very productive visit this morning.

Results from last weeks test :

Chol----234

trig-----104

hdlc---55

ldcalc--158

tc/hdlc--4.3

My doctor also  set up an appointment at the VA, for a dietary nutritionist. We're going to see what else I can do with diet.

Also,  looks as though I will be starting on blood pressure medication. It was 143/95.  It was taken several times this morning with the same results. ( or very close) She mentioned HTCZ, mimimal dosage to start with. aahhhhh.......   :-\

So, I 'll be getting that medication in the mail shortly.

Update:

So Anyway,...  I had two appointment cards from the VA.  One had an appointment for Wednesday June 2nd at 1:30  ( At the Clinic, 2 miles from where I live)  and the other was for Friday the 4th of June at @ 1:30 at he main facility in St. Pete. ( Bay Pines VAMC)

I really have to watch these appointments. Both appts, were for labs, two days apart. This is the second time this has happenned.

When I went to the clinic on Wednesday, they drew 5 vials.  So I went back to the desk after they took the blood, and asked, what these five vials were for,  why do I have to go to Bay Pines on Friday for more labs.

So after some checking it was determined that the labs taken on Wednesday were the exact same labs to be taken on Friday.  They duplicated it !  Ouch!  What a costly error on their part.

So the guy at the clinic couldn't cancel the Friday appointment.   After I got home I called, and got things straightened out.

I was so close to going, prior to sorting this out, I thought they were doing different type of labs.

The test that were done on Tuesday, were for lipids, Liver panel, cd4 and viral load.

So, I have the follow up ID consultant appt. , set for July 12! 10:30 AM,  to see how those results are.

Oh yes,... Everything went well at the dermatologist Appt on May 5th.  She did a pretty thorough check on me, and froze off two areas. Told me that if these areas that were frozen off return within 8 weeks, to make another appt. to have them shaved or cut down. So far so good.

The appt. with the nutritionist( May 12th) also went very well.  Lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. We discussed my diet in detail.  She's convinced, that if I make some dietary changes, that I can probably somewhere in the near future stop the BP medication along with the simvastatin. I am now on a higher fiber diet (25g-per day). More fruits and vegetables !!

Update 7/13/10

I went to the VA yesterday for my follow up results and consultation from my blood test taken on June 2nd.

Overall, not bad and not to much has changed ;

CD-4 -----  365

CD-8-----   1942 ( RANGE 144- 796)

CD-3----- 2465 ( RANGE 688-1955)

CD4:CD8 RATIO----0.19  ( RANGE 0.83-6.10)

CD4 %--- 14% ( DROP OF 1%)

VIRAL LOAD---<75 ( NO CHANGE)

OTHER TESTS THAT WERE OUT OF RANGE WERE:

ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE---95 ( RANGE 32-91)

LY---3.81  (RANGE-1.0-3.7

NE%  ---35.3 (RANGE --39.3-73.5)

LY%--- 53.7  (RANGE---16.2-48.2)

All other test within range.

I was also met by the Ryan white Social Worker , and was re-certified for another 6 months. She was right there waiting for me ! Hard to believe 6 months had past.

My BMI is 27% and the doc would like to see that get down to 24 or less. He's talking about a 20 pound weight drop !! :o I suppose if I have a boob and stomach reduction, that should just about take care of it .   ::)

He asked if I remembered what I weighed, when I was in the Army.  I told him about 140 pounds. this 140 pounds is what he initially wanted me to try to get down to.  No way possible for that !  :P I said, I'll try for 20 LBS !!

Blood pressure was good ;  128/78 Looks as though the BP medication is working.

Weight : 180 pounds

And finally, during my examination yesterday the doc said " Has anyone ever informed you that you have a heart murmur?"  I said no .   So this is new !!  ???  we"ll be watching this.

Otherwise, he says I'm doing OK .

Next Monday,  I have a appointment with The VA primary care. I have to do some fasting blood tests for her. This will be for cholesterol.

Otherwise,  Still hanging in there, and overall not feeling too bad.  The cancer spot that was frozen off a while back has returned, so I will mention that to the primary care, and she will set up another appointment, to finally scape or cut that out.

Oh,... And the doctor said "no problem" for this test.  I asked if I could have it done. So this will be part of the blood test in 3 months :

Hey Ray,

I know how you feel regarding the weight gain. So far, I have dropped about 11 pounds, but it has been a struggle.

As for the CPK, my doc checks mine pretty regularly now, especially since it was at lethal levels last year.

HUGS,

Ray, I totally understand your frustration regarding the weight loss.  If only I had a magic wand to wave over my gut, things would be better.  But, I don't.  I have such a hard time staying totally away from sweets.  And I'm not a huge vegetable fan.

Your cholesterol looks better, aye?  Good for you for getting it down.  I can't remember, are you on cholesterol meds?  I had to switch from Lipitor to Pravastatin.  Sometimes I skip it for a week (no, my doctor doesn't know this).

Good luck with the weight thing.  If you find a good diet, let me know!

Betty

Thanks Betty  ;)

My gut size, is the biggest issue, cause I sure as hell don't have excess weight anywhere else on me !  :P

Anyway, yes I am, on 40 mg of simvastatin.  This pill is provided by the VA in a single 80 mg dose.  I spilt that one in half.

I also take Hydrochlorothiazide, for the blood pressure.  This pill is is 25 mg dose.

I also understand about the attraction to the sweets.  I've given most of this up, but it's impossible to not have some sweets, now and then.

It's when the now and then turn to here and now, that I have the problem with the sweets. Then I over do it!!   ::)

Ray, I have something sweet every night before going to bed.  There's this fabulous ice cream, made in Holland, Michigan, (and you know I live right over the border in Indiana), called Mackinaw Island fudge, that I bought the other day.  I have a little every night.  I just adjust the insulin accordingly. ;)

I don't have problems with BP.  Mine actually runs low, and I take a pill for my heart, so there you have it (the reason for it being low).  It can run like 80/60 sometimes.

Good luck with the weight loss.  If you find a tastey diet that works, please let me know.

EDITED:   Sorry folks!....I meant to place this update in this thread, which is a kind of abbreviated version of my personal journal.  I wasn't thinking clearly this morning when I posted. I was tired !   :P

An update from yesterday's echocardiogram .

Ed and I made it to Bay Pines around 12:15 yesterday afternoon, and checked in about 12:20.  I had the echocardiogram done around 12:45.  The entire procedure took about 25-30 minutes.  She wired me up with 3 electrode thingy's .  I only had to remove my shirt.

She then took that wand device, and asked me to lay on my left side.  She applied that gel stuff, and proceeded to get the pictures. ( and it came with sound) She had me listen to the good valves and then she had me listen to the defective ones. There was a definite difference in the sound !

Apparently, I have TWO heart murmurs.   Shocked        The echocardiogram discovered the other one.

She believes, that I have had these since birth.  I am not having any kind of problems though.

She then told me I would get a follow up report and consultation with the cardiologist.

We had lunch around 2:00 and made it back home at 2:45, and I got to sleep around 4:30.  Back up at at 7:00, to try to get ready for work last night.  It was tough trying to stay awake at work last night.   Tongue

Ray, that's good your faulty valves aren't bothering you.  I have a couple bad valves, and every once in awhile, they beat fast and erratic.  So, I know you're going to see a cardiologist, but has there been any talk of medication?  Or not yet?

Hi Betty,

I've never been to a cardiologist !!  I never knew I had these heart murmurs, and never had any kind of problems.  The ID doctor at the VA was the first to hear it , on my last visit there to discuss lab results.

When I mentioned it to the primary care, ( a week or two later) she then heard it.  The primary care was the one that arranged for the echocardiogram at the VA.

I imagine I will be hearing something from them as soon, as the cardiologist reviews.

My next scheduled appointment( for labs) is for Sep 13th,  but I have a feeling I will hear something before that.

Hugs---Ray

My doctor just ordered a test awhile back for my heart, and I can't remember the name of it.  It's like a stress test, but without the walking on the treadmill.  They shoot something into the veins to make the heart get up to about 120 beats per minute (and it happens in 5 seconds), and then take pictures of it, with the echo.

Good luck at the cardiologist.  I hope it goes well.

Hey Ray,

From what I can tell, which isn't saying much, you seem to have the same issues I do. A bit of a murmur and a slightlly leaky mitral valve.

They told me the latter comes with age - the bastards. ;)

So, how do you feel?

Hey Mark,

Overall, I feel pretty good. This week had been a little tough.  Whenever my sleep pattern is interrupted, it usually makes the rest of my day difficult. Fatigue is still an issue at times,  and there are those times, when I really have to tell myself to slow down a notch, that I am not 30 or 40 anymore !   :P

Still trying to keep myself involved with cardiovascular exercises.  And, I am obsessive about getting that 30 minute, fast paced,  walk in 5 days a week.

I think on a scale of 1-10 ( 1- being the best you feel, and 10 the worst)  I am between a 2 and 3, 95% of the time. And I am certainly not complaining. At  almost 59 years of age, and living with HIV for a quarter of a century, and being on meds 7 years , this month, I think  have a lot to be thankful for.

I just like to stay focused on the issues, and keep myself as busy as I can.

Well,  This is my Friday night at work,(got to get ready) and I have a nice long weekend ahead. I took Sunday and Monday off, so I don't have to be back to work until Tuesday night.

Tomorrow is Ed's birthday, so I am going to take him out for a nice dinner, and an enjoy an extended weekend !!  8)

Got to go...

Ray, that's good news about your echo.  I've had those done before, but I have a couple valves that are prolapsed.  I get times when my heart races, and I feel a pressure.  But, I suppose that comes with the territory.

Hey, if you're doing that much exercise, you're doing great.  More than a lot of younger people do, and more than people of all ages do (including me).  I hope your sleep improves!  And I hope you and Ed had a great time celebrating his birthday! :-*

Update: 12/13/10

Just got home about a 45 minutes ago.  Had my three month labs drawn, so I will get those results around January 13th.

The woman that drew my blood, was an anxious, nervous type, until I took off my jacket and she realized, I have good veins!   :P I think she was new, I never seen her before.

Ok, back to bed, then work tonight...   :P

Hey Ray,

The numbers look great! Seems like things are going pretty well for you.

I presume the nerve conduction test is for the neuropathy. What is the MRI for?

Just being curious.

Hi Mark

This past couple of months, I've been experiencing some pain and discomfort,  but it's only in my left arm.  A major tingling and numbness, and electrical shock type feeling Almost feels as though the arm is asleep. also noticed some loss of grip in the left hand.

They want to do a cervical MRI, to check the neck out.  I had some bulging disc, back in 2004, and he thinks something in the neck, may be causing the numbness and tingling in the left arm. Also I've been having some stiffness in the neck

So, we'll see what happens !

Good numbers, Ray, especially the CD4's and %'s!  I hope the nerve conduction test and MRI shows what is going on.  I hate not knowing.  Please keep us updated!

Yes,  I hate not knowing too.  I will keep everyone updated.  Even as I type, at this moment, it feels as though I've got my left hand around live bare electrical wires.  But it's not a constant thing.  I am convinced, that I have something going on in the neck, that's causing this. Seems to be most noticible when  I am in bed.

I went to the VA yesterday, to get the results of my blood test taken on 3/21/11

Overall not bad.

CD4 ----420   Was 446

CD8-----2000  was  1690

CD3----- 2798  was  2264

T HELP%  -- 15%  was  19%

CD4:CD8  <0.21   ( RANGE .83-6.1)

Viral load  <75

The only other tests not within range, were:

BUNLX---22  ( RANGE 8-20)

TP----6.1  ( RANGE 6.3-8.2)

WBC--11.1   ( RANGE 4-10.6)

And,  I should be getting the confirmation letter in the mail any day now, for the MRI. We discussed this again yesterday.  The numbness/tingling/ electrical shock, type feeling, is much more constant now in the entire left arm.

Also mentioned to the doctor, that the tinnitus, seems to be getting worse, so he's going to arrange a hearing test.  I think I may be having some hearing loss issues.

Otherwise,   Hanging in there!

Yes, I am left handed.   I had a neck injury back in 2003 or 2004. I would have to look it up ( work related)  The MRI at that time showed a bulging disc, in C-5 and C-6. It only caused a minor problem for a very short period of time, but I am also convinced I've got a pinched nerve. Hopefully this upcoming MRI, will show something, and I'll have some answers.

I also went back to when I had the MRI done for the cervical spine.  It was actually done on March 14th, 2005, not in 2003 or 04 as I previously thought. In fact I am looking at some of my MRI's now.  :P

You can imagine how Kurt felt...sitting in a waiting room of 70 something women waiting for a bone density scan.  And in fact he has osteoporosis.  Small bones in his feet SPONTANEOUSLY BREAK.  Freaks me out.  Just walking or standing...and a bone breaks.  Thats why he takes a calciium supplement every day (600 mg I thnk).  Also why he has twenty pair of shoes lying around the kitchen so he can try getting something comfortable. Combined with neuropathy he has had a lot of problems with feet.
He also goes to the gym to try and build muscle mass.
But, you know, talk to your doctor first.
If you are turing 60..I'd say you are past due for a bone density scan.
Lovely thought!!!

Hooray!!

I have the MRI scheduled for this Friday at 7:00 PM.  I arranged it about 20 minutes ago, but thought they said 7:00 AM.

Meantime, I arranged with a fellow co-worker to come in at 6:00 AM on Friday, so I could be there on time. I thought they said 7:00 AM

However, when I called the automated appointment verification it said 7:00 PM. I spoke to a live person and he verified that it was a 7:00 PM appointment.   :P

Apparently the VA does MRI's 7:00 am through 7:00 pm, seven days a week.

Perhaps now, I'll get some answers.

Well.....

That's out of the way ! I arrived at St. Pete VA around 6:15Pm and was out of there, by 7:00. The MRI went well.   I forgot how much noise these machines make !  :P

I just have to wait for a follow up appointment to get the results.

I had an MRI done just recently (something is torn in my shoulder and I'm waiting till after summer to get the surgery because I wanna be able to tan and make the AMG without my arm in a sling. LOL). The technician forgot to turn the music on in my headphones until the last 3 minutes - and woke me up from my nap.  ::) Once you tune out the thumping and banging it's kinda relaxing. LOL

hope you get some answers! ;)

M,

I didn't have any music either throughout the entire MRI.  I"m not even sure if it was equipped for that.  I had a feeling, the the headphones were just a noise reduction set.

It was louder than the MRI, I got in 2005  :P

Ed and I went down to the VA today, to get the report from the MRI I had done on 4/15/11.

Not sure what a lot of this means, as I haven't spoken to anyone yet. Guess I'll  google a little.   :P

Anyway, Here's the report:

Reason for Study:  Radiculopathy (Left)  Radiculopathy ( Right)
===========================================

Report:

MRI of cervical spine without contrast

Findings:  The Posterior fossa is normal.  The cord is normal in size and signal intensity with no edema seen on the sagittal images.

There is mild degenerative endplate changes at C-6-C-7 with small in plate osteophytes.

There is no compression fracture or destructive bony lesion.

There is no canal or foraminal stenosis at C-2-C-3,  C-3 -C-4,  C-4-C-5,  AND C-5-C-6.

C-6-C-7 , There is no uncovertebral joint hypertrophy and facet arthropathy with mild canal stenosis and left - sided greater than right - sided foraminal narrowing.

There is no cord compression.  C-7 - T-1 level is normal.
=========================================

Impression:

1. Mild canal stenosis with left greater than right foraminal narrowing at C-6- C-7

2. Otherwise unremarkable MRI of the Cervical spine.

Primary Diagnostic code:  Minor Abnormality

Ray, the rest of it is way ABOVE my pay grade, however these 2 sound very sound to me:

Otherwise unremarkable MRI of the Cervical spine.

so, my guess, and this is only my guess, I don't think you have much to worry about here, thanks for sharing this, I like you, I'm going to have to look the rest of this up  ;)

I am kind of thinking the same also.  My next appointment with the doctor isn't until July.

So,....Hmmmm  ,  next question for him,  if the MRI is so unremarkable, whats the next thing to check for regarding this left arm issue.

The good thing is, it's not getting any worse, but it's not better either.   ???

Hey Ray,

It sorta sounds like there is some minimal amount of deterioration (read: bones getting older), but I noticed they said there was no edema, which I believe means no abnormal collection of fluid in the spinal column.

Let us know what the doctor tells you, or Google.  ;)

This is the one that's grabbing my interest. Apparently these "Osteophytes" are or can be age related. But from what I read, they only get bigger.

 :o

Big blood draw at the VA clinic today.   The drew 9 vials today. Even the guy drawing the blood said, "Wow!"   I told him they could draw as much as they wanted. Makes me feel as though, there taking good care of me.  I think some of the tests today were ordered by my primary care, along with the HIV doctor. And I think some of these were annual tests, that they do. ( PSA )

My follow up appointment for those results, will be on July 28th, but I'll go down to the VA hospital to the release of information, and get those results in about two of three weeks, (because I am curious when they draw 9 vials).

I like having those results in my hand, as the doctor is discussing them, plus it gives me a few weeks in advance to get some questions together.

In addition to those tests today, I've got fasting labs to be taken on July 20th.

And,  They also scheduled another EKG for me on the 20Th of July as well.

Well,.... I'm off to the doctor in about an hour.  We're going to discuss an EKG that apparently wasn't so great last Wednesday.  :-\       Also going to discuss some labs taken last Wednesday, and see how the cholesterol and tri's are doing. I'll  post results later.

So, when she  wired me up last week, for the EKG, the first thing she said was, "Do you know you have an arrhythmia? "    :-\  That's the first time I heard that word used.

Is that the same as leaky heart valves?  :o   I will find out ...

I'm starting to question the Abacavir now. we"ll talk about that again too.

Update: 7/25/11

Ok,  Bottom line, I am fat and lazy!   ::)    These aren't the words that the doctor used today, but it's time ( she says), and I agree, to seriously get active and start loosing some weight.  I am now 10 pounds heavier, than I was at this time last year.

First things first:  The doc walks into the room today and smiles and says,  there is nothing wrong with the heart.  It is a normal sinus arrhythmia. Everything was normal on the EKG. That's not what I was expecting to hear, but it made my day. We discussed the echo-cardiogram, that I had back on 8/16/10.

She also asked me if I would be interested in a stress test. I said of course ! So, she is going to schedule that for me. She is also going to schedule an eye exam.

From those results on 8/16/10

Cardiac Valves:

Aortic valve trileaflet---Aortic regurgitation:  Trivial--------PHT 433-MSEC

Mitreal Valve:  Mitreal regurgitaton:  Trivial

Tricuspid Valve;  Tricuspid regurgitation:  Trivial-----RSVP--25MM Hg

Aorta root size:  normal

Pericadium  Effusion: none

Impressions :

1.  Normal chamber sizes

2.Normal LV Systolic function

3. Trivial , AI, MR, AND TR

EKG Lead shows :  Sinus rhythm

===========================================
My biggest concern right now, is loosing weight. She would like to see me get down to at least 150 pounds. That mean a 38 pound weight drop.  According to their scales, I weigh   188 pounds @ 5 feet 7 inches

She stated that I am getting to be pre-diabetic. So, the weight needs to get back under control.  I need a much more disciplined diet.  And definitely,  more exercise.  More fruits and vegetables is a must!

I will have a return appointment with her in 3 months.  We will see how the numbers fall in 3 months, and the possibility of a statin switch came up.  She suggested Crestor, if we don't get some favorable results.

The good news is that statin I have been on is not affecting my liver..but maxed out on simvistatin and need to try other ways to bring the numbers down before going to another statin...aka...exercise  and weight loss.

Here's the ( fasting) lab results from this past Wednesday:

KEYTONES:  NEGATIVE

BILLIRUB:  NEGATIVE

UR.  BLD;  NEGATIVE

NITRATE:  NEGATIVE

I have no idea why they keep checking for syphyilis, but they do. Must be a VA thing---  Results:  Non-reactive.

Comment for PSA:   The PSA and free PSA value determined using the Beckman Coulter access Hybritech PSA and free PSA methodology.   PSA levels over time ( PSA - velocity)  are often more useful than a single PSA level for for levels of 0-4 ng/ml

Looks pretty good Ray --  the cholesterol and tri's...well, you'll work on that with diet and exercise.

I can offer you NO MOTIVATION whatsoever, since I cannot seem to motivate myself to exercise one bit.
Why are we this way?   I guess lazy is the right word....

Are there any stairs at your work?  I wish I had some; I used to climb the stairs everyday on the job, and that kept me in pretty good shape (there were 14 flights).

Keep us posted --

Hello Alan,

No, I think your right.   :-*    Motivation is the word.  Because, when I really look back at,  Lazy I'm not !! I certainly have enough drive, it's taking a much longer time trying to get the engine started.   :)

8/6/11

Everything is right on track. I now have the stress test ( which I have never done before) ,  scheduled for Thursday, September 8th @ 3:30 in the afternoon. I've already arranged to take off that Thursday night from work. Saturday the 10th, is the St Petersburg Aids walk, so it will give me a chance to rest up a little.

I'll come from work that morning, and manage to get ( hopefully ) 5 hours of sleep, before driving down to St. Pete.

I also have an eye exam, scheduled for September 30th @ 4:00 pm.

Otherwise, all is well, ( or as well as can be expected),... just getting closer to vacation time.  One more work week to go, before our trip.

Oh yes,... I've lost 3 pounds since seeing the doctor on, July 25th.  So it's a start.  I've notice much less of that bloated feeling.

Stress test today...

Wish me luck!  Today's the day, I go for my stress test.  I got home from work about 45 minutes ago, I'm going to try to get at least 5 hours of sleep.

The stress test is scheduled for 3:00 pm, but they want me there at 2:30.

Hope its not too stressful !   :P

Thanks guys....

Well,... That was a non eventful event !! Got through that quite well, the whole test, didn't take more than 20 minutes. I don't have the official report, I"ll pick that up next week sometime, but she said, " no problem "  I went through the test very well.

Unfortunately, they had to drastically shave my chest before applying the electrode things.  I had no idea how much they shaved, until we got home and I took my shirt off.  Ed started laughing !!!   :D   So,  I decided to shave the entire chest and stomach area, because it looked so ridiculous.

Now, with nothing there it looks even more ridiculous.  These man boobs really show now, geez, I need to tone up some !  :D  I'd put up a pic , but I am too embarrassed !  ::)

Next week On Tuesday the 13th, @ 9:00, I have the nerve conduction test scheduled, so I will be looking forward to that one.

I am off of work tonight, will have a long weekend, looking forward to the  St.Pete aids walk this Saturday, hopefully it wont' rain:

:P  Well,.... I thought I was having a nerve conduction tests done this morning, but after arriving at the VA , @ 8:30,  I found I was having a Carotid Doppler test done instead. The test lasted about 25 minutes. The person performing the test said , she didn't see any problems, but that a report will be sent to the doctor. I am going to try to get those results @ release of information, next week.

I have two more appts. scheduled for this month.  Fasting labs on 9/28, and an eye exam on 9/30.   It's been A busy month.

I received the report yesterday,  from my primary care doctor, regarding the results of the BP cardio stress test done on 9/8/11

Dear Mr........

I have received the test results for the stress test done on 9/8/11

Results:  Normal Exercise stress test.

Sincerely, Dr.   ...........

( I thought they would give more detailed results than that, perhaps those results can be found at release of information. I still have to check on that.  But overall I'm pleased !  8)  )

Now I just have to get the results for the Carotid Doppler test, done on 9/13/11   :P

Great news!  None of us need extra issues to deal with.  Did the cardiologist give an explanation of the arrhythmia?

They only said it was "Normal," and trivial.

"Normal and trivial" sounds OK, but I hate when they use general terms like that.

I remember when I had my last stress test done, they said I had a leaking valve, but that it is "normal for someone my age." >:(

Glad you're doing well Ray.

JRE; I can't understand that you put so much time & energy into your lab results. The only numbers my ID doc tells me are my CD4 & viral load. He told me my creatinine when it was creeping up & we decided to stop my Viread. He told me my cholesterol and triglycerides when they were creeping up & he added Fenofibrate to my regimen. That's it.

I think you might need to consider another hobby other than your lab numbers. I do volunteer work, reading, walking & swimming to keep busy; in addition to the never-ending house work & taxes.

I did get PO'd in June when the lab didn't run my viral load, so I won't get my blood drawn on a weekend again like I did that time. This week my my VR was up to 20 (from undetectable for 10 years) so I wonder what it would have been in June. Hugs from Provincetown, Deibster

Howdy,....

Trust me, I have plenty of hobbies and interests going on.  I have a partner of 31 years, a home that we maintain, a full time job,  I am close to 60 years of age, and I try to keep myself as involved with the issues as much as I possibly can.

I really don't post this for my benefit.  It just a sloppy attempt, at an online journal, ( of sorts),  to let others know what health events etc,  are going on in my life of living with HIV for 26 years.

I am pleased you post the ins and outs off maintaining health , it gives a picture to others who maybe think HIV is no big deal.

Like a lot off people here I know how bad things can get ,on top off that I seem to be regularly hearing a new form off denial that is that HIV is no big deal , the drugs stop it blah  blah blah blah.

So thanks.

Update 10/1/11

I went to the VA yesterday for my eye exam.  Looks as though I will be needing a new pair of glasses, otherwise, all looks fine with the eyes. He noticed two very small hemorages in the right eye, but I have had them for a while.  pressures were good -no signs of cataract  8)

Looks like the new glasses will make my eyes bug out even more.    ::)

While I was at the VA, I picked up the results for the carotid artery duplex scan, (Doppler) done on 9/13/11.

Not sure what all these numbers mean, but here's the results :  :P

Progress notes>>>>>

Results / measurements :

Brachial pressure :  RIGHT: 132 mm/hg  ---------LEFT: 142 mm/hg

Peak velocities:  Internal caraotid artery (ICA) ; Common carotid artery (CCA)

Ray; I'm glad your eyes are doing well. I have to get stronger glasses every few years & I know how important great eyesight is, &, how easily problems with it cause stress in one's life.

I admire that you're still working; I've been on disability since 53 yrs old because I was putting too much effort into my job & the stress was effecting my health. I'm married to my best friend - a man - so we work on the house together. Hugs, Deibster

I just got off the phone with the VA. The nurse is going to speak with my primary care, and get another viral load test scheduled for October 20th.

HHHmmmmm   :-\     ....  I've been undetectable since 04. I wonder if my regemin has finally begun failing.

Hey Ray,

It could be just a blip, or that the blood sample wasn't handled properly.

Try not to sweat it, which, I know, is easier said than done.

Thanks Mark,...

I knew my blood tests results from 9/28 would be ready to view on line, at the VA website, so I was quite surprised when I saw the 1,075 copies of viral load, this morning when I came home from work.

Hopefully it's an error, I'm not going to worry much about it. There is nothing I can do about it right now anyways.

I had a lipid panel and metabolic panel, already scheduled  for October 20th.  The triage nurse ( that I spoke with today) said that she will message my primary care and get another viral load scheduled along with the lipid and metabolic panel.

When I check in on 10/20, I will make sure that this test is on there.  I also have a follow up appointment on  10/25 to discuss the results of the lipid panel, and another appointment with the HIV specialist on the the 31st of October.

I am not sure if the viral load test result will be ready on the  25th. It's cutting it kind of close.

Thanks----Ray

UPDATE--- 10/31/11

Ed and I,  drove down to Bay Pines VAMC this morning.  I had to be there by  9:00 am.  I was first met by Ginny Boucher.  She is the Ryan White Coordinator at the VAMC.  We had a nice talk for a while.  She had stated that changes were ahead for Ryan White program at Bay Pines.  Which meant added staff to help coordinate.

I then met with the doctor to discuss the viral load test on Sep 28th.  He had already arranged a new viral load test, so after our discussion today, I went down to the labs dept, and they drew 3 vials for that that purpose.

I also had an TB (PPD) test this morning.  So, Thursday morning ( after work) I will go to the clinic, and let one of the nurses read that.

The doctor says it could be a lab error with the 1,075 in the viral load, but also stated that a genotype may be necessary, and has already arranged that should that be the case, depending on results. We discussed the possibility of alternate regimens.

So, just got to wait for the results now.

The PPD went well. Results--- Negative.   I had the RN, on my shift at work last night , look at it, and she reported the findings to the VA, by leaving a voice-mail to the Ryan White coordinator.  She said I could this, plus it saved me a trip. The RW coordinator will get this placed into the VA system.

As far as the viral load, haven't heard anything yet.  I've been checking on the VA website for the results, but nothing has been posted yet.  There a little sluggish getting things on the site,  I will probably hear from the doctor first through snail mail. But I will be checking the site daily !

Otherwise, all is going well, and thank God/goddesses,.. it's my Friday night at work tonight !  :)  Time for the weekend !

Hey Guys!,... UPDATE November 27, 2011

I was checking on line with the VA last night, and another portion of tests just appeared.  Looks as though they did a genotype, ( which explains the delay),  but the results, they provided are sketchy.  I will start another thread, when I get the full results of the genotype/ Mutations.  I will be going to the VA, a week from this Monday to get those results.

Until then, this is the only info I can get: I will try to copy and paste from the site:

                          TEST NAME
1.HIV PROTEASE GENE MUTATIONS DETECTED             comment                                               Details

2.HIV REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE+PROTEASE GENE MUTATIONS TESTED FOR                   Details

3.HIV REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE GENE MUTATIONS DETECTED    comment                          Details

4.HIV REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE GENE MUTATIONS DETECTED    comment                          Details

When I click on the individual "Detail" from top to bottom,(1-4) this is what I get:

It looks like you would have received a call from the Dr office if there was anything to worry about.

So you probably still have Great News.

I've never seen it written that way.

Usually, when then do a resistance test, they will provide a list of drugs and then list whether there are mutations and corresponding resistance, and usually the particular mutation.

Some are worse than others. Some mutations are merely "safe but keep an eye on them,."

Others indicate a medication or, sometimes, an entire class of medications are no longer usable.

Let us know what your doc says Ray.

Hello Mark,

I'm not scheduled for any doctors visits until February 6th,11.  As Ron stated, if the doctor hasn't called by now, apparently he feels there is nothing to be concerned about.  :P

I will be going to the VA on Monday, just to release of information. There, I can get a copy of the full results of the genotype.  Ill let you know what the results say.

HUGS,

Ray & Mark I had one in Nor-cal before i moved to NM, and another one here in NM in 2004/05 right before I started FEZ-EON, guess they wanted to find out if i could take that drug, I have some resistance to some drugs , some of the newer ones, and cannot take some of them, I forget witch ones, it no big deal really, just about everyone of us LTS has some type of drug resistance, I've been on MEDS for 22 yrs. and started out w/ AZT, and whatever came after that, so I suppose that might be why......

Update 12/5/11

We went down to the VA, today,  to get those results , and there is basically nothing different than what I received on the website. This is all there is...

I took two pictures though, of the results from the VA,  Not sure how they will come out though:

Nothing more to report....   :P

That isn't what any of mine ever looked like. Mine had bar graphs illustrating resistance levels per each available HIV medication, then more detailed gene mutation information below that.

I guess I need to be more assertive.  I had my first geno testing 2 years ago but never saw results.  Just told that I had several resistance issues.  Gonna contact him today and request a copy.  Don't know why, but I want mine too.

I always get copies of all my labs, etc., because I keep track of them. I have records back to 1980, which is really anal, but . . .

Looking forward to meeting you in DC also.  Congrats on your numbers.  They're looking pretty good.  I've also managed to get my numbers looking good also except for the %.  I guess 25 year of havoc can't be corrected in short order.

Take care

Hello all,...  UPDATE 10/26/12

Thought Id give an update , since it's been awhile:

Overall, things are going well. CD-4's are near 500, viral load undetectable

I've had quite a few appointments scheduled within the past few months:

03/19/2013 13:20    BP OPTOM MILLER FULL BL 106    BAY PINES
01/28/2013 08:30    BP ID SIMOES REC 5D    BAY PINES
12/24/2012 08:30    BP LAB OUTPATIENT 3D    BAY PINES
11/29/2012 11:00    BP DERM MULLER BL22-218    BAY PINES
11/21/2012 11:00    PH PC DUNNAGAN    PALM HARBOR CBOC
11/14/2012 08:00    PH LAB FASTING    PALM HARBOR CBOC
09/24/2012 09:00    BP ID SIMOES REC 5D    BAY PINES
09/17/2012 13:20    BP OPTOM MILLER FULL BL 106    BAY PINES

I have fasting labs scheduled for 11/14/12, and a follow up consultation with my primary care on 11/21/12

I had another eye exam done, on9/17/12,.. slight change again in prescription, but they wanted me to come back for a follow up on 3/19/13. Their wanting to keep a watch on some blood vessels, in my right eye, and see if anything progresses with that.

I have a follow up/ check up with the dermatologist on 11/29/12. Back around 6 months ago I had a few things frozen off.  The worst one, being behind my left ear. No signs of that one retuning ! I think things are going to look good for that follow up.

The last time I spoke with the ID doctor he suggested that I consider going for labs, once every 4 months instead of every 3. I have no problem with that, so that is already in place.

I have my HIV labs scheduled for 12/24/12, and a follow up consultation on 1/28/13

There also began writing all prescriptions, for 90 day intervals with one refill.  I do like that!! so now Simvastatin, blood pressure, and HIV meds, are ordered once every 3 months.

I am happy to say that the VA, is taking very good care of me !

I feel pretty good, could still loose some weight, ( current weight is 173.0 lbs. blood pressure has been fine. We''ll see on the next fasting labs, how the cholesterol is doing.

Looking good bud!   I think it's pretty standard to switch to every 4 month testing once your number as doing good.  For me, I appreciated it as I have to drive quite a distance.

Wishing you continued improvement.

Ray that's good you're having a good experience with the VA.  I have a couple clients who use the VA, and they're not doing as well as you do.  They have to travel over 100 miles to get to the doctor (nearest clinic that handles HIV is in Indy), and for one, the VA won't keep refilling his Plavix so he's on prescription assistance for that with Walgreen's.

That's great about only having to get labs every 4 months. I've been able to get my doctor to agree to every 6 months.  Which I'm happy with; the less sticks, the better, right? :)

That's unfortunate ! I think this individual needs to sit down with his cardiologist, at the VA, get this discussed, and get to bottom of it, and find out precisely why the VA won't cover it,.. because I believe the VA carries Plavix.  I wonder if there is a generic version.  I just don't have that much knowledge on this drug, so it's hard for me to  comment.

By the way, I just googled "The VA and Plavix", and came up with some interesting reads on this.  Appears there was some study....

That was interesting.  I guess then it's not just my client.

They just opened a VA clinic in town (South Bend) that covers like basic general medicine, and are supposed to build a VA hospital in town, in the next 6 years.  I know when my clients go to either Indianapolis or Fort Wayne to see their other doctors (HIV, cardiologist etc.), they get mileage.  That's nice.

Hi Mark,..

If I can just lower the triglycerides.  I know the weight is the biggest issue for me, and I definitely need a better exercise routine. If I can just drop 10 - 15 pounds, I am sure I can get the numbers in check. Might even be able to drop the simvastatin. I am just so beat and tired after working all night, I have no time for it.  :P    Ed and I do our mile power walks though, so at least it's something !

So,.... yesterday ( Thursday morning) I went down to the VA, and had a full body check done by the dermatologist.

I had 3 areas frozen off, and had a small slice taken out of my nose to be biopsied.

She says it looks very much like Basal Cell. ( that didn't surprise me)  It was very small, so I should get those results back in a week or two. Depending on results, She said an appointment may be made with the cosmetic surgeon. A routine  follow up has been scheduled for 5/29/13.

On my follow up with my primary care doctor earlier in the week, she was pleased with the lipid panel, and not too concerned, about the total chol, being 206.

I had mentioned that the tinnitus seemed to be getting more noticeable, so an audiology exam, has been scheduled for 1/14/13 .

And,...  the doctor was able to move the HIV labs back up to the clinic, instead of driving 23 miles south, to the main hospital. The VA often makes that mistake, and I have to follow through to make sure to get the labs moved. Those labs are scheduled for 12/24/12.

My primary care doctor says she needs to have the HIV doctor coordinate a little better, and have her labs, and the HIV labs drawn at the same time. So, we'll see how that goes in the future.

So other than a few appointments being scheduled, all is going pretty well.

Hey Ray,

Sounds like you have it all in hand. I am now doing monthly body checks at home, as ordered by the doctor.

I will see her annually, unless I notice something out of the ordinary.

I am still envious of your lipids.  ;)

UPDATE 12/5/12

I received a letter today from the VA, and as suspected, the spot on the left side of my nose was Basal Cell carcinoma.

So, an appointment has been made for Wednesday, January 9th,12 @ 11:00 AM . I just Got off the phone with the ARNP, that saw me on 11/29/12.  She stated the cosmetic surgeon will take some more of my nose off, and it will require several sutures.

While I am there,   I think I will ask for the excess skin on my eyelids to be removed, tummy tuck, breast reduction, and a Butt lift.  ::) :)  I think I will also take off the 9th and 10th from work !

That's it for now,...Pictures to follow on the 9th.

Great news Ray!

From what little I know about this stuff, I do not think there is any "real" difference at all between 13% and 14%. Wouldn't give it a second thought.
