It always dissappoints me when I read comments like this.  I am going to make some pointed comments, please take it personally as I do give a damn!

1. Seriousness: I have one friend who was 32 who died from Swine Flu related complications.  He was otherwise poz and healthy.  Another friend who is about the same age spent 6 weeks in the hospital because of swine flu.  This is not a little matter.  Even if you have good insurance this could be devestating if you get it.

Im glad your so sure of your arguments...the question was put out there "who is getting shots" and I answered along with my belief that mercury, among other things, is my reaso\n to not get Vaccinated. Dont come along and warn me about giving my opinion when asked. Im sorry your friend died, I take it your not a doctor so pardon me for not accepting at face value "He was otherwise poz and healthy." because at best thats just what he told you his situation was or was your non qualified asessment of his situation.

2. Mercury:  There is more than one form of it.  They are not all the same.  You would need to be injected with about a gallon of vaccine for the mercury to reach a lethal amount.  The typical dose is .5 cc which is a very small amount, somewhere in the neighborhood of the size of a pea.  A gallon for comparison is the size of a gallon of milk.  You would be very sick for other reasons if you got that much of anything injected into you.

As for how much mercury is in the h1n1 vaccine maybe YOU should do a little reading Ive done mine "Can mercury limits in vaccines be suspended?
Yes, the secretary of health can temporarily suspend Washington’s

legal mercury limit for a vaccine for two reasons: if there is an

outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease or a shortage of vaccine

available to protect the public health against vaccine-preventable

disease. The H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine qualifies under both reasons.

So, the limits have been suspended."

http://www.doh.wa.gov/cfh/Immunize/documents/suspensionfaq.pdf

again pardon me for not accepting at face value your asessment that it takes "a gallon" of vaccine to kill you...
i dont think this girl got "a gallon" or even a quart of vaccine and look at her

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG5pj_TWJ6o

3. Fungus:  Mercury is added to prevent the possibility of a fungus getting into the vaccine and then into your blood.  Bloodborne fungal infections are difficult to treat and usually lethal

If fungal infections occur as a result of injections wouldnt NOT GETTING injections that arent necessary be a better preventative step? Flu vaccines by the CDC's own admission have questionalble benefits, and having a compromised immune system further limits any benefit of a vaccine as your body isnt able to mount a defense from the vaccine so it doesnt work at all or as well.

4. Common sense:  While it makes for good talk radio, it has no basis in reality to think that the government is "out to get yoU" or that they would deliberately make something harmful.  Government simply isn't that good at keeping secrets.  Besides which, it's much easier to trump up charges and just go arrest you if they wanted to get you.  Make no mistake, plenty of people die each year from the flu and many will die from swine flu.  I guarantee that if you could roll back time they would have gladly taken a vaccine shot.  News is not news anymore, it's entertainment because that is what sells TV Ads and keeps people tuned in.  Keep in mind that what you hear on TV is designed to sell ads, not teach you anything.  So if you hear people talking about vaccines and that they have harmful things in them just realize that they want you to stick around and watch the ads.  They will say damn near anything to keep you tuned in.  It's how they make money which is what they really care about.

I never said there was a conspiracy or anyone out to "get" me...thats your straw man to call my judgement into question, so Ill do the same for you...if you admit corporations are all about making money and willing to "say anything " to get more of it...why do you blindly accept what drug companies say about their vaccines?

Lastly this thread was started to get opinions about the vaccine and as you can see the "for"s far outnumber the "againsts" so i think the consensus here relects the general populations as well...I just happen to disagree..no need to take it personal as you suggested I should your response, its just my opinion and Im entitled to it and when asked for it will give it.

were you told to come back for another "flu shot" or another H1N1 specifically?
my clinic does a couple vax each time I go, and postpones some till later - so they don't make a pin cushion out of me. LOL I got the seasonal flu shot first and was told to come back in a few and have the h1n1. Definitely check with your doc to see if it's a second h1n1 shot

No had the flu shot a couple of weeks ago, definately told to go back for another H1N1. Just found this link, so maybe diffeent here in the UK.

According to that link, there are two vaccines available in the UK - Pandemrix and Celvapan. Only the Pandemrix carries the two-dose recommendation. Anyone getting the N1H1 vaccine in the UK would be wise to check which vaccine they're being given and if it's Pandemrix, make sure you get the two shots. The vaccine has only just arrived on the Rock, and I'll be sure to check which one it is when my doc rings to tell me to come in.

It's funny though, I was sick in October with a high fever and sore throat. My ID doc in Liverpool is pretty sure it was probably swine flu, but he recommended I get vaccinated against it anyway, just in case. He said it wouldn't hurt, and just might help.

It seems as though the H1N1 flu has mutated in the Ukraine rendering one of the vaccines useless. Here is the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/28/health/28flu.html

Does anyone know what type of vaccine is used in the states?

For those interested in the origin of H1N1, read this from virology:

http://www.virologyj.com/content/6/1/207

" The three parents of the virus may have been assembled in one place by natural means, such as by migrating birds, however the consistent link with pig viruses suggests that human activity was involved. We discuss a published suggestion that unsampled pig herds, the intercontinental live pig trade, together with porous quarantine barriers, generated the reassortant. We contrast that suggestion with the possibility that laboratory errors involving the sharing of virus isolates and cultured cells, or perhaps vaccine production, may have been involved. "

An interesting article on what autopsies are revealing about H1N1:

The lungs were heavy, difficult to deflate, and beefy looking. To the pathologist who held them, they belied their own anatomy, resembling a liver.

They belonged to an Ontarian who, until contracting H1N1, had been healthy and in early middle age. Within days, the person was dead, being dissected at Toronto's University Health Network. Pathologists concurred on the likely mechanism of death – an immune system reaction, most common among the young and people in their prime, called a cytokine storm. “Once the inflammatory cascade gets established, it's like a runaway freight train – it's just going to keep going,” said pathologist David Hwang, who consulted on the samples. “In some of these patients, even if you clear the virus, the cytokine storm has already taken hold and it takes on a life of its own.”

It's a fatal irony: A robust immune system can be hazardous to your health. In some cases, it's the reaction to the flu – more so than the virus itself – that sets off the death spiral...

i don't get the logic here either.  ::)

i'm all for freedom of choice and that lot, but we all have hiv here and as such, have varied degrees of immuno-compromise. personally, i think it's important that we all consider safeguarding ourselves from potentially serious damage swine flu can cause. like hotpuppy, i have a poz friend who got it and was hospitalized on a ventilator for 2 weeks. he did survive it, but lost megaweight and major cd4 headway.

as far as the youtube links, yeah it's sad what happened to the girl & little boy, but the odds of that happening are far less than the odds of any of us catching swine flu and thus, outweigh the potential 'what ifs', imo....kind of the lesser of 2 evils. also, does the vaccine have any more mercury in it than a tuna sandwich???

but like everything else, to each his own.

personally, i think it's important that we all consider safeguarding ourselves from potentially serious damage swine flu can cause.

I agree completely, but there's another important reason not raised on this thread:  the public-health one.  If one contracts swine flu because one didn't get the vaccine, to whom will you, in turn, spread it?  The public-health ramifications of a vaccine-administration program are not intended only to protect yourself, but others.  This is one of the ways an infectious disease can be fought:  Lessen the number of people who can contract it.  It's called containment. That's the reason why sexual partners of someone with an STI are contacted; they need to know they might be infected, AND (it is hoped) they will cease sexual activity until  their potential infectiousness is determined and appropriately treated.

It's completely analogous to testing for HIV:  It's imperative that you yourself know, but it's also essential to help from infecting others (if you make the appropriate safer-sex measures).

I got mine today and was told I had to go back for another in 4 weeks. Anyone else being told this?
Yes!  My doctor called me in for a booster shot today.  Everyone with HIV and other autoimmune diseases are being asked to get a second jab 3 weeks post the first jab (in the opposite arm).

So, I got my first post-having H1N1 lab numbers during my doctor's visit this afternoon.  Verdict: I lost close to 50% of my cd4's, though my immune system is still intact if we look at my % which actually went up slightly (47%), and my viral load was still completely suppressed.  Now as a reminder to some of our fair readers, Miss P had a phenomenal +1,100 cd4 going into this, but has 719 now.  And as my H1N1 bout was a month ago we must assume my numbers were even lower at that time, so that's why I say "close to 50%" up above.  If your numbers are as high as mine and you not only want to play Russian Roulette and forego the vaccination but also miss up to a week of work when you're sick then by all means go ahead.  Most people on here don't have numbers that high so my point is that I'd not want to go into this unprotected if I was in that position, but hey it's not my body.

My GP (who knows about my infection) didn't offer it, and when I asked him about it, said that as swine flu predominantly affects young people he didn't think I would be at risk anyway.

I got the Mexican Pig AIDS vaccine when it first came out, sometime late last year. The Australian Government bought 21 million doses so it seemed to be unpatriotic not to have it.

I'm told that this year Hamthrax vaccine will be in the normal seasonal 'flu rotation.

While it makes for good talk radio, it has no basis in reality to think that the government is "out to get yoU" or that they would deliberately make something harmful.

You might explain that to a few people who received polio vaccines in the years 1957-1959 after they started getting sick.
It's all a sham. Politics is a big game, same as the media - and same as religion. The point is to distract & control. If we're looking at what they tell us is the "big issue", we're not looking at what they are doing. In time, there will be different causes and different minorities to pick-on. All in the name of keeping the system going, and the people distracted.

Pity, you should have waited a month or two. The Mexicans were extremely active this season, and I was never disappointed.

My doc talked me into getting it. Did it and no big deal.

It will indeed. Question is whether the current N1H1 vaccine will even be effective if a second more potent strain arrives as predicted.

Govt has 21 million doses (in multi dose vials with added mercury) of what might be useless vaccines that it is 'encouraging' people to take.

My understanding of the new season flu vaccine with N1H1 in a single dose vial does not contain any mercury for those that are concerned. It is set to be available later this month from what i understand.

I received the H1N1 shot 2 weeks before I got really sick, which led to my finding out I was HIV+. I don't think there was a connection between the 2 events. Just a coincidence that I seroconverted soon after the shot. It was not a good start for 2010.

I scheduled an appointment to get my swine flu shot but couldn't attend - because I was sick. My hiv doc thinks it was probably swine flu. I haven't bothered to reschedule the shot. I did get a regular flu shot though, before I had flu.

I had both the H1N1 and swine flu vaccine, courtesy of the Canadian government and they provided them in a very efficient manner. What amazed me most, was that they asked you wait, for 15 minutes, after the shot, just in case you had some form of a reaction. They had this huge room, set with chairs and a clock. As I waited, I was impressed by the fact, that virtually everyone stayed the 15 minutes, without anyone telling them they had to wait. The whole experience was that of a shared societal commitment, to protect everyone through vaccination and other than the shot, it was a really pleasurable experience.

Interesting, I was in a motorcycle accident on a remote island in Thailand. I wasn't driving but we crashed into a giant pot hole and fell down the side of a mountain. I was badly hurt. Skin and muscle from my left arm and leg were all torn up and I was bleeding badly. My friend was also in bad shape. Because of the remoteness of the location, we had to get a ride to the peer (30m) then a boat back to the mainland (40m) then get a taxi to the nearest hospital (1 hour). We were bleeding all the way with nothing but tissue it was a REAL mess.

Anyway at the hospital the doctor kept asking me if I had a tetanus shot yet. I couldn't recall if I had had a booster or not recently. I told him I didn't think so but I wasn't sure. So he gave me a Tetanus toxoid shot. Later on I found out that I did actually have a tetanus shot two years previous so I should NOT have gotten that shot. I don't know what the effects of over vaccination are but vaccinations certainly effect the immune system. My friend declined the shot.

1 month later I got my positive diagnosis. My infection date happened from a single exposure on Valentines day. Interestingly, my friend was with me. He had the exact same exposure risk as me. I got HIV and he did not. I wonder if the over-vaccination could have in some way weakened my immune system. Is anyone aware of vaccines and immune complications?

I was concerned whether or not it was too soon to get this years combined shot.  I just called Walgreens, and they said it was alright to get it now. So, I will get it this coming Friday. I already downloaded the form. The shot is about  $30.00

Are you Canadian, I am aware that Canada has universal health care that covers doctors visits, surgeries and medicines administered in hospitals but it does not cover outpatient medication. Is this true? If so then is there any way to get HIV meds other than private insurance in Canada?

I had H1N1 vaccine last week, it was quite cheap; about 13 dollars at a state hospital in Bangkok.

During a normal year of AIDS (for me), I decline the regular flu shot, mostly because I live in isolation (in a resort community?). So, I normally see 1 or two people within a weeks time (a convenience store clerk) and every three months my ID clinic.  I don't get out much...

Last year the swine fly vaccine arrived at our HIV clinic the day of my appointment.  I was the first to receive the vaccine.  There had already been 1 death of an HIV + person in Sonoma County and HIV is considered to be immune compromised here in California.   ;D  Have the best day

I was at a private one today and they were selling it for around 700b (23). Still pretty good i think. What do people living in the states with no insurance pay?
