CD4 very low -- but my viral load is not high
« on: December 26, 2009, 02:35:28 PM »
I've been off meds for five years, and I've just had a full set of labs. They ain't great! My CD4 count is 282.

But what surprises me is my viral load, wich I had assumed would be well above 100K by this time. But it's not! It's just 27,663. Is that common for long-term unmedicated HIV? I'm not talking to my doctor about this until the seventh of Jan.

With a lowish viral load is it likely that my T-cells will be quicker to rebound (obviously I'll be getting back on meds post-haste).

My last vl was 27,000; however, my CD4 was 811.  I've been infected since 2001 at least.  Have you been sick at all recently?  I was diagnosed one year ago after getting bacterial pneumonia.  The pneumonia caused my CD4 to drop to 171.  After getting better, it rebounded and has been in the 800 range for a year.  That is why I'm wondering whether you've been sick recently.

Hopefully, your CD4 will bounce back.  The vl and CD4 doesn't match up, but I've talked to few people on here with same situation....low vl and low CD4.  By the way, why did you go off meds so long?  Problems getting the meds?

Let us know how it goes.
