Massachusetts Sales Tax Increase
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:52:23 AM »
Hello everyone,

I received the following notice from Cheers yesterday regarding the cost of our gathering. SI originally rounded down to the nearest dollar when announcing the price for the meet and greet. It would be greatly appreciated if any of you are able to contribute an extra dollar toward this event to help absorb this additional cost.

We hope that you are enjoying the summer!

This letter is to inform you that the state of Massachusetts has increased its state sales tax from 5% to 6.25%.  Hampshire House corporation including the Hampshire House, Cheers Beacon Hill, Cheers Faneuil Hall Marketplace and 75 Chestnut, in accordance with this increase, will charge the new rate on all taxable purchases.

The change will be effective August 1, 2009.  All events held from this date forth will be subject to the new Massachusetts State sales tax.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

We thank you for your continued patronage and look forward to working with you on your upcoming event.

here in California the standard rate is 8.25% and then there are the varing taxing districts throughout the state that add their own tax on top of that.

6.25 sounds good to me.  maybe that's why they're having problems with  their universal health.  Boost the rate couple of points and see what happens.
