Very worried... Need advice
« on: June 26, 2009, 05:09:29 AM »
I am a 27 year old male. I had a exposure with a CSW in first week of May on the 8th dayin Malaysia. While having sex my condom slipped exposing the top of my penis head partially, which may have been for a minute or max 2. Though I did not come inside her. The CSW was very young may be 18 or 19 and was very clean no sign of drug usage. She then left and I cleaned my self. Later about 18 days after I developed infection in my stomach and penis and viral soar throat infection with dry mouth and a ulcer. The infection in the penis and the stomach subsided but the throat infection is still continuing despite medication from a doctor. At 24-25 days i had pink pimple like things on my right hand alongwith white heads, these where a little itchy but went away in a day. these were about 10-12 in numbers. Also at 28 days i started feeling swelling on my body and every morning when i get up i have swollen lips cheeks and jaw. This is when my sore throat was diagnosed as a chronic pahryngitist with swollen lymph nodes in my neck which is still continuing on day 48.I am not aware of other lymph nodes in my bodySince the 18th day, i have had on and off mild fever but never crossed 99 degree mark. I am not sure are these symptoms for HIV or not I would like to have your thoughts on the same. Also I has HIV combo tests on the 22, 28, 35, 42 and 47 day which all came to be negative.
Do you think these symptoms are related to HIV ?
Do i require any further testing ?
How accurate are these HIV Combo tests?
Are a lot of things related to anxiety ?
I have researched on the web and honestly confused about it all, need some direction on the same
Do I have HIV and am I a late sercovant?

Need some expert advice? What are my chances?

As long as the head of your penis was covered you were never at risk of contracting HIV.

It was partially covered, i.e. i think almost uncovered. just the condom was hanging by the tip  and I am not circumsized.

It was covered. Next time hold on to the condom when you withdraw. You were never at risk of contracting HIV.

Your symptoms are not in any way HIV specific. Which is not surprising since you were wearing a condom during intercourse until it "slipped."

If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor.

Whether you had any risk at all is kind of iffy. If your penis head was briefly uncovered the risk would have been minimal. You were protected until it slipped. HIV is not easy to transmit and it is significantly harder to do it from female to male.

You can do an initial test at 6 weeks. Assuming that result is negative, and I expect that it will be, the likelihood of that changing at 13 weeks is practically nil. But to be absolutely sure you should re-test at 13 weeks. I am only suggesting testing because your description indicates the head was uncovered at some point briefly, and not because I think you had a serious risk. So for peace of mind get tested, collect your negative results and get on with your life.

Cheers.

I have already taken a 6 week test. Does that mean I am fine despite of the symptoms.. or there is still a chance of the results to go otherwise. Also I has a HIV combo test, which looks for p24 and HIV both

DUO test are not designed to give a conclusive negative test any earlier than your standard antibody test. What there designed to do is to give a positive test result a week earlier than the normal antibody test.

The likelihood that your HIV test result will change from negative to positive after your  6 week negative is very remote. But we do adhere to the CDC recommendation of testing finally at 13 weeks.

I do expect you will continue to test negative.

Cheers.
