Queer to being Queer? or getting jaded? (laughing)
« on: April 25, 2009, 01:48:14 PM »
I am 46 yrs. young and have been HIV since 1986 (23 years). It has been a humbling journey and I am grateful.

I have been researching dating, no dating, just checking into it (laughing). I really have been set back by reading ads. I am kind of blown away by ddf, hiv neg only, nonsmoker, but they are looking for multiple loads up their ass. This is an extreme example of ads I have read.

I think I am jaded...(laughing) I am a middle aged gay man that reflects on younger days when men were men, cruising and chemistry was hot. I reflect on the many gay friends and men we have lost. I reflect on wanting to share life with someone, that my age, HIV, smoking is not an issue, it is about who we have become on this journey and combined experience creates an energy. Okay, enough reflection, back to reality!

If you can read between the lines ,you can see some seriousness in this post and maybe some sadness. I am thinking, here comes another growing experience, because exploring dating/relationship now in my life is causing allot of thinking and some emotions. Yes, I said emotions, I have feelings (wink), so maybe I am not jaded?

Robin your not getting jaded.I am the same age as you I would say I am one of the lucky ones.Found out 21 years ago am still with the same person the problem with that is he is negative and dose not understand how the medicines make me feel.I know he cares and he is hard on me to keep me going. I have been out lately and I realised I was the old troll we used to talk about years ago. I even put a personal add for friends that have been though the same things. Next thing I get a few answer the adds but don,t read the hole add.

Thank you, that was nice that you took the time. The post was written tongue in cheek, but the idea of dating, presently has presented issues I need to deal with. Age, habits, HIV. (laughing) never thought I make it this far so there was not a game plan........I was walking earlier and the thought came to "OMG you are vanilla".........Not so much vanilla, as simple.

Thanks again.....Robin

Hey Robin,

I understand completely what you are saying.

Welcome to the forums and the LTS forum, where you will find there are quite a few of us who, like you, never thought we would make it this far.

HUGS,

Mark

Hi Robin,

Welcome to the forums.

My Dr keeps telling me that I really need a good f*** time:  I keep telling him that the dating scene is not the same as when I was a 'cruiser'   ;)

I have been posiitive since 1987. I was a young naive small town Nebraskan and now 22 years later,  I am still here. No longer naive, thats for sure! :D
I am lucky as my partner of 10 years is also a long term fighter. So we both know what each other is going thru with the exception of sex life. I long ago pretty much lost all interest in sexual activity. Doc told me that a small percentage of hiv fighters do lose their sex drive. I even tried steriod shots every 2 week for  about 2 year, no such luck, tho it made me looked like I worked out, which I dont!!! :) So my partner does get frustrated, but has accepted it as best he can.
We still enjoy cuddling, but that is about it.
We still live in small town Nebraska, and also placed ads for just friendship.. dont get responses, but then again, I put it on our location.
Has anyone else been through this?
