Trouble Sleeping?

I am on Atripla and have been so since November. From the beginning I had trouble going to sleep at night and when I wake up, Im up, for good. Went to sleep at 11, woke up at 3 and was up ever since. About a month ago I started taking an OTC sleep pill only when I know Im going to need it. When I do take it, it seems like I hit that snooze button until I jump out of bed and realize I have 10 minutes to get out the door for work. Does anyone have the same problem or similar and any suggestions of how to make yourself more tired or fall asleep easier? Any help would be great. So far I love Atripla and will not change medications, I will deal with the sleep dificulty.

You could try melatonin, but you're probably too young for it to have much effect.  It is most effective in older people and its lack of is thought to be a cause of restless sleep in older adults.
Currently, when I wake around 3, I take a melatonin and go back to bed.  I always run a fan to supply white noise.  If I feel I need a little more help, I'll add a couple aspirin to the melatonin.
If I can't get to sleep at night, I like restoril (generic temazipine (spelling?)).  It's really cheap and doesn't leave you so foggy in the morning.  However it's physically addictive so you can't make a habit of using it.

And don't forget to cut out all caffeine and sodas.

hey buddy let me know if you find an answer between this and my citalopram i feel like i am only sleeping 4-5 hours a night and can't seem to catch a break myself.

Hey Guy,

I been on Atripla for some time years,, you may notice the funny feelining in your  head  and it takes about 45 minutes for it to hit me.. or if I eat somthing frist about 2 hours.. so I learned if I plan taking the pills right before I got to bed.. not 45 minutes before .. right before the 45 minutes kicks in then I sleep well, so I think it is a timing thing and My doctor say it will go away the funny feeling, although sometimes I take it in the morning if I miss  before bed and 45 minutes later funny feeling in my head, however only last 15 to 20 minutes for me.  So check out the timing thing with your body and I meditate a lot to try and find peace in my mind.   Peace and sleep well ..

072508, sleeping difficulties is a common occurrence with Atripla. Let your ID doctor know and they can prescribe medication to help you sleep.

I tried to switch to daytime and there was a completely unpredictable high that would come about an hour or two after I took it. I decided that in my work I could not deal with that so I have been taking myself back to nighttime. I did get melatonin which works gently for me. I still wake in the middle of the night but I am groggy and drowsy instead of ready to get up and go wide awake. But I am 42 and I do remember trying it in my 20's and it not working at all. I love atripla though. I like the once a day one pill and the effects I have felt. So I understand. Good luck with it and let me know what you try if something else works

I started out on Atripla and recently got away from it, the sleep thing being one of a few reasons to switch. I went to Truvada/Lexiva combo instead. Within a week I am now sleeping 8 hours, sans horrible nightmares and without having to eat Immodium every day. Good luck on whatever you decide.

I am having the same exact problem.  I just made a post wondering what I could possibly switch to from Atripla.  I am constantly tired, but yet can't sleep without a sleeping pill or two, or more :(
This is having quite a bad impact on me, and don't know what to do!  So, I am right there with you.  I wish you the best, and hope I can also get the help I need.

I can just speak for myself, but two things helped me with sleep issues.
One seems to be exercise. In the winter its hard to get much and I have a lot of sleeping problems.
The last two weeks its been nicer here and I've been walking a lot. Not only am I sleeping sounder, but I have less fatigue and last longer. No naps needed.
Also, I take over the counter benadatyl once in a while. Just one tab, not two.
It can make me feel a little warm and cozy during work, but at least it doesnt make me feel like a zombie like excedrin PM does, later at work.
But I really think the key is exercise.
Not only does it help me sleep better, I have a lot less fatigue and function more like normal.
I really believe exercise, walking, running, is necessary for those taking meds.
It helps smooth things out.
Helps any depression issues too!
