Anxiety is killing me, certain positive
« on: March 17, 2009, 05:21:19 PM »
Hi
Could i ask you advice ? my 72 hours would be up tomorrow so wondered if i should get PEP?
Had protected oral sex with female sex worker 48 hours ago but foolishly gave her a small amount of cunilings. she tasted quite salty. within 12 hours of this i had a burning facial rash. this spread to the trunk and persists and is feels prickly/sore like sunburn. some sweats last night. mild sore throat. feel feverish.

All the reports say cant get symptoms within 24 hours but i did read the case of one of the pornstars infected a few years back by ?darren james who had documented seroconversion symptoms like the above (rash/fevers) WITHIN 24 hours and tested positive. also i had thought the risk from giving oral sex was low but i am going out of my mind that i need PEP and am having an acute HIV reponse

Thanks for any help

el,

You do NOT need PEP because you did NOT have a risk.

Getting a blowjob, with or without a condom, is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you won't be the first.

Going down on a woman is also NOT a risk for hiv infection. No way.

If you're worried about any physical symptoms, then see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv as you did NOT have a risk.

thank you
i appreciate your answers its just that you seem very sure in your reply and i am worried in that i can find exceptions.
ie - cant get symptoms within 24 hours - i then found a case where somewhere did
cant get it from cunilingus - and yet there is documented evidence of female/female transmission and this website on transmissions risks notes a case of female/male

i dont have much time if i am to take the meds and goind out of my mind at the thought of not taking them and then testing postive

There has never been anyone with a verified documented case of contract HIV from oral sex and you aren't going to be the first and there is no reputable doctor that would even give you PEP to begin with.

No, you didn't have a risk. But I can promise you that if you keep searching on the net for misinformation to feed you worst fears you will definitely find it. All to no good purpose of course.

You have nothing to worry about this time and there is no need for testing.

Get on with your life. Period.

hi

could i ask your advice. i am very anxious that i am positive from encounter with brazillian CSW.

received covered oral sex (she had tongue stud). she then lubricated her vagina but i did not want sex. she used the same hand that she had lubricated herself to give me a vigourous hand job. after finishing i noticed some blood (?from frenulum) on the tissue. unsure if penis traumatised by the tongue stud, or hand job but the fear is that vaginal fluids were rubbed into a bleeding penis

One week post event i have had terrible lymph node swelling bilaterally in back of neck, side of neck, groin and armpits. These ache, largest half an inch and are multiple distinct nodes. Very painful to turn my neck because the nodes are so tender. No fever, sore throat.(ie symptoms of a more common viral infection)

i am convinced this is HIV - what can i do as i cant even test yet and the worry is killing me

Elvis,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

You did NOT have a risk for hiv infection. Getting a blowjob - even in the presence of a tongue-stud - is not a risk for hiv infection. Getting a handjob - even if some vaginal fluids got on your penis - is also not a risk for hiv infection.

If you feel unwell, go see a doctor. Whatever is going on has NOTHING to do with hiv. You didn't have a risk.

Thanks for merging the threads. The thing is this time the symptoms are very unusual and this is why i am so worried. My neck aches, there are palpable nodes on each side and at the back, and my arm pits and sub clavicular nodes ache as well. i have now developed pharyngitis. I have never had 'the flu' where i have had painful enlarges nodes and then a few days later a mild sore throat.

i cannot sleep or concentrate at work as i am so anxious about this. although the risk is theoretical, the symptoms that i have are so classical, and unusual for me, that i am very concerned

elvis,

Your symptoms are "classical" of any flu-like illness. Just because you never had a flu like this before doesn't mean it's not flu.

If you feel unwell, go see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv. You did not have a risk for hiv infection.

thanks but i just cannot believe you. The lumps in my neck are hurting a lot, and my armpits and groin ache. i do not feel like i have the flu, but i have never had these symptoms before

although the risk was low risk, it is still possible and i cannot deal with the stress of it.

You need to discuss your physical concerns with your doctor. We cannot diagnose them in this setting.

We've already given opinions that this is not an HIV situation. You can accept them or not. There really isn't anything more for us to add to what has already been said.

Elvis,

You did not have "low risk", you had NO RISK. If you cannot belive us, then go test and collect your negative result.

However, you will not be permitted to use this forum to wring your hands over this NO RISK incident. If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

hi

I would appreciate any advice as very scared. 8 days ago had protected sex with a sex worker. she was brazillian and had a bad flu at the time. had protected oral and about 1 min of protected sex and then oral again. i dont think the condom split. however she seemed anxious when i touched the condom afterwards bare handed. unfortuately i then had a was and may have rubbed my hand on my penis.

12 hours after i felt unwell - headache, burning skin. during the pas 8 days have had mild congestion, painful inner ears, painful glands in neck and under arms, mild headaches, it does nit really feek like flu, biggest problem is burning skin on face back and trunk -like sunburn. associated with a mild mottled rash but burning seems worse.

very, very worried this being hiv and becoming very anxious as rates of hiv quite high in brazil

Elvis, I have merged your threads here. The rule of the site is to keep all of your entries in the same thread. Please follow that procedure in the future and write only in this thread.

Protected intercourse is just that. As long as you wore a condom for vaginal or anal intercourse the condom provided effective protection against HIV. Oral sex would not have put you at risk.

Whatever caused your symptoms is not HIV and testing is not necessary. If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor. Nothing you are describing symptomatically is in anyway HIV specific.

This is not an HIV situation.

Protected sex is just that, protected.
"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
