I just Tested poz for sure now...
« on: February 03, 2009, 11:30:32 AM »
Hi all,

I'm following my post on Am I infected. I received today my definitive results. I'm positive. The western blot came back with four bands : GP160, P55, P41 and P24. I will not talk anymore about how I was contaminated... My doctor told it must have been a bug and it's not necessary to think about it anymore now. My CD4 count is 831 with a CD4/CD8 = 0.91. Is that good results for a first exam ? My doctor told me it was fine and no treatment needed. I'm still waiting for my VL. I'm starting feeling better and begenning to handle it. I have a wonderful boyfriend who help me and understand me. I'm know thinking how will be my life, how I will handle it, what will change in it ... I told to everyone to my familly and they support me so I'm not complaining.

Hi Ale,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I actually read through your whole "am i infected" post before replying here and was hoping that the WB would come back negative.. i Will agree with your doctor is deff not a good idea to think about who infected you and what not will make you go nuts and its not that most important thing right now.. Its wonderful that your whole family supports you it will make things alot easier. your CD4 looks great and hey no meds yet is good let  us know what is the VL once that comes in. Be strong and make sure you research on how to live a healthier life.

I have the lab results more detailled. I made a mistake on my CD4 ratio.

Here are the results :

CD4 : 832 (32%)
CD4/CD8 : 0.67
VL : 116665 copies/ml (5.07 log)

What do you think of this 1 month after my seroconversion ?

Thanks,
Alex

Sorry to hear about your positive result but welcome to the site. Very good CD4 absolute count - in fact, within normal range - as well as percentage, so it looks like your body is coping well. During this early period after seroconversion the body is getting used to the new 'house guest' so lab numbers tend to fluctuate quite a bit. Try not to read too much into a single lab result (easier said than done, I know). Once numbers get more stable then it's the trend they represent that's important, i.e. are numbers stable, going up or going down, seen over time. In your situation, however, it could take a while before you and your doctor can establish that.

It's great you have a supportive partner and family. The first year for me was undeniably hard, but it does get easier as time goes on. Life changes in subtle ways, but I'm no longer in doubt that I can have a very long, full and happy life. So can you. One thing that really worked well for me was to tap into support groups and services for poz people - meeting others in the same boat made such a big difference - perhaps something to think about? As well as using this site, of course..

Hi keyite,

Thanks a lot for your post. Yes I was thinking to go to a group of poz people. I think it could help me and understand better how do live with that. But I want to say one thing, for a long time I was paranoid about HIV, i was worried each time I had sex, I was on this forum and all those stuff. I would never have imagnie to be able to live with this. I know I will have good moment and bad moment, I have a lot, but I found in myself a strength that I never known I had. I take this much better that I would have imagine, even if it's very hard. I felt a new strength and I want to do things that I never want or try to do before. Like a new life which is beginning. I don't want to lose any one single day with new goals. My doctor told me that HIV catch me one time, but I must do everything so it doesn't catch me a second time. It's a sort of personal fight et I really don't want to have this f..... virus take over me. And I was able also to find people who really love me. It's hard to say, but it's on those situations that we can find this .... My boyfriend for example, the way he reacted show I can really trust him for the future. Same things for my familly.  I was always worried about HIV and now I'm less worried ... Why ? Because I will be closely monitored by doctors, and I know who i'm fighting. I know life will not be easy everyday, especially when I will begin my treatment. But I understood one thing, great people live on this earth. And life is far from being over .

That sounds like the kind of fighting spirit that's going to serve you well in days, months and years to come. It does indeed make you tap into strength you never knew you possessed. I know it sounds like making the best of a bad situation, but I genuinely feel like my life is now better than it was before HIV (although I'm not saying I'd not rather be without HIV, if it was possible). In lots of small ways life is better, like I would never have gone back to the gym had it not been for the diagnosis, and I'm now in much better shape than I have been for a decade. Some new and very good friendships have emerged because of HIV. And so on.. ;)

Hi all,

Just received new results one month after the last blood test.

CD4 : 836 (38%) (it was 832 and 32% on the last test)
CD4/CD8 : 0.88 (0.67 on previous test)
VL : 104755 (116665 on last test)

I think my VL is still high ... My doctor told me my CD4 was very good so no treatment and again blood test in 3 month. What do you think ?
