Need some help with questions and explanation on my results
« on: January 04, 2009, 10:23:18 AM »
Dear all,

On 5 December 2008 I had engaged sex with a CSW. She provided me a condom and the entire session lasted about 10-15 mins. After that she removed for me the condom and I put on my underwear but did not wash up. I was half drunk and we took a nap for a couple of hours.

6 December I developed slight cold, running nose but no fewer. I got worried and approached a few doctors. I have not experienced swollen glands or pains at joints. I was very worried and had minor night sweats in 2 nights.

On 18 December I went to a clinic and had blood sample taken and ordered a PCR DNA test. According to the report that I received, tests were conducted on 19 December 2008. Below are the results:

_________________________________________________________________________________
HIV-1 Proviral DNA:       Not Detected
Medhod:                     HIV-1 Proviral DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (Roche Amplicor HIV-1 DNA Test, version 1.5)
Assay Type:                 Qualitative

Performance Characteristics:
a. Analytical Sensitivity:  10 copies/reaction or 80 copies/ml blood (at >= 95% CI)
b. Analytical Specificity:  No cross reactivity was seen with BKV, CMV, HBV, HSV, VZV and T.gondii
c. Clinical Spesitivity:      100% (18/18)
d. Clinical Specificity:      100% (36/36)
e. Sybtype Inclusivity:    The primer set used for this test has been optimized to yield equivalent amplification efficiencies for Group M subtypes of HIV-1
_________________________________________________________________________________

It has been almost 1 month from date of possible exposure. Can someone kindly help me assess my situation. I have been reading too much on the Internet and am very worried. thank you in advance.

You didn't need testing, you were never at risk of contracting HIV. Had you had a risk a PCR DNA test is not an approved diagnostic test. I know this is not the first time that you have been given that information.

Thanx RapidRod,

I have posted similar question at medhelp and was hoping to get more opinions and advice from the community.

I'm worried, very worried and cant help reading. I'm constantly looking into the mirror for symptoms (though they're useless in determining HIV).

Well, you're busily driving yourself into a more anxious state with all that scurrying around on the net. And with no basis in HIV science. As you've been told, you had no risk for HIV transmission. Period.

Condoms are very democratic. They are indifferent to whom you are with whether it's a professional or a civilian. They provide very effective protection.

Be smart and stop looking for ways to feed your anxieties. If you have any symptoms which continue to trouble you that's something to discuss with your doctor(s). This is not an HIV situation so stop with the craziness and get off of the worry train right now. Just because you have anxious fears doesn't translate to genuine risk. End of story.

Staring at myself in the mirror and thinking back of all the crap i put myself into, i'm starting to realize and feel bad for the rape victims. If i feel bad now, i cannot imagine the trauma they have to put up with.

I also feel very stupid for paying the CSW 700bux and going thru this. I was anxious and my first time with someone whom i dont know. sigh

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

I strongly urge you to give up this orgy of guilt, shame, self-recriminations and D R A M A. You have no cause to be concerned about HIV. You didn't have a risk.

And if you can't let go of this then book some time with a professional and talk about it. This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

Now, tear yourself away from the mirror and go find something productive to do with your time for the rest of the day. You'll feel much better if you do.

tac,

WTF ??? Rape? You've got no idea, mate. Don't even go there. You had protected intercourse with a sex worker. Big fucking deal. Get over it. You didn't have a risk.

Hi Ann,
Thanx for the post. I feel bad for them. In my case, it was an act of pure stupidity and I'm all worked out and scaring myself to death, yet nothing compared to those raped victims, whom were forcibly exposed to this disease.

thanx
