wtf is wrong with you people?

Ah yes, well of course it's all people who live in Britain, just like all American's are snake-handlers. ::)  ;D

When reading anything the Daily Mail publishes, it's prudent to keep in mind that they tend to be sensationalist - to use British understatement in describing the paper. While there's no denying that alcohol causes problems in the UK, the Daily Mail exaggerates it no end. You also need to keep in mind that the numbers they quote are from well-populated urban areas - and I'd be willing to bet that similar urban areas in the States had similar problems.

As someone who's lived here for eighteen years, I'm of the opinion that most of the problems as portrayed in this article stem directly from the sale of alcopops. While we don't have this problem here on the Rock in the same scale as they do "across", we do see the result of the alcopop factor. I remember what the young folks were like in the pub on a Friday night before alcopops, and what they're like now. They're definitely rowdier, drunker and more prone to violence and I know it's due in large part to the alcopops, because that's what the rowdiest ones are usually swigging on.

It's the young ones - the 18 - 25 age group mainly. They down bottles of these sweet, strong alcoholic drinks like they're glasses of kool-aid on a hot summer day. I'd be quite happy to see them made illegal.

One of the reasons the young women end up so drunk is because they start drinking before they go out. While drink prices in pubs and clubs are high, drink prices in the supermarkets are relatively cheap. So, the women get together at one or the other's house to finish getting ready to go out and get well-primed on store-bought alcohol in the process. I know they do this because my younger friends tell me about it - and I've watched my own daughter go through the same ritual with her friends. Luckily, my daughter only takes a small amount of money out with her and she doesn't end up as drunk as she might otherwise. She has no desire to end up passed out outside a pub/club in a pool of her own vomit, thank goodness.

Well, anyway, it's not ALL of us over here behaving badly. The ones who are need to wake up.

Honey, there is ample photo documentation in that article.  I live in the 5th largest US city and I never see stuff like that, nor did I during 15 years in NYC.

Frankly when I went to school in Winchester way back in 1987 I never saw such things in the UK.  Maybe a little vomiting once or twice outside of a pub, but nothing extreme.  Certainly no blood.

ps:  how inbred is this boy?  If I didn't know better I'd think he had crawled out of holler in east Kentucky.

LOL....too funny cause I thought he was kinda hot.

And I have definitely had a few occasions like the blond chick with my hand stuck halfway down my throat trying to induce vomitting.

I've seen some serious drinking in pubs in London.

BTW, do they have dry counties in Britain?

I lived in London for a year.  The beer there is stronger than it is in the US.  Parts of my first Sat night ended up a total blur.  I got completely smashed... met a nice boy at Heaven and Lord knows who else... took the boy to Trade who showed me the ropes ... how to continue to get totally smashed at the back bar.  Seems that was par for the course in clubs there... there's typically a bar in the back of the after hours clubs that keeps serving illegally all night long.  Around 8:00AM, with my wallet now about one hundred twenty pounds lighter, I stumbled home to my new abode... and was hung over for three days!   Great memories!

And later that year... a poor guy approached me just as I arrived at my flat late one night on the street.  As he got near I realized the poor guy had gotten the sh*t beaten out of him... was bloody and bruised... like one of those pics... asking me where the nearest hospital was.

And finally you always kept your eyes to the ground when walking around on Sat or Sundays... because inevitably, you would come across a pile of vomit on the sidewalk.... especially near the pubs.

Don't get me wrong... I did truly love London.  In many ways wished I never left.  (And Lurch gets my approval also... looks like a hot rugger who's gotten all his front teeth knocked out... could come in handy.)

Same thing has been happening in Aus over the last few years - binge drinking followed by lots of violent attacks.

'Glassing' - smashing your beer glass into someone else's face is the latest trend. The Govt has legislated that plastic cups only be used to serve alcohol in the most violent pubs.

Alcopops has been used as one explanation for the increase in binge drinking and violence. My gut feeling is alcohol mixed with a bit of Tina makes straight boys become violent. Us poofs just wanna have dirty sex.

Having traveled to England nine times I can say I have never met a nicer people.

I am sure these heathens never even listened to The Queen's speech on Christmas day.  ;D

As for being safe ... I'd rather visit London on NYE than Detroit on Halloween!
