I would be grateful for some help!!
« on: December 15, 2008, 09:47:30 AM »
Hi!

So, about four months ago a friend (who, in these past four months, I have come to distrust) and I slept together (vaginal sex) with a condom.  Immediately afterwards I went spiraling into a panic (probably guilt driven) and an hour after the sex I washed my vagina out with water.  I later read that this can spread HIV.

Since this incident I have been living in extreme anxiety.  About a month after the incident I found a patch of shingles on my stomach.  Can shingles show up a month after infection??  I also have found swollen lymph nodes in my neck and a few in my groin (but none in my armpits.)  I am terrified and plan to get tested in a month, but I don't think I could handle the news (if I was +) right now and thus am waiting for the holidays to be over.

Any insight into my situation would be greatly appreciated!

You had protected vaginal sex. You were never at risk of contracting HIV.

There is no unhappy news for you to "handle." You did exactly what you're supposed to do when you have intercourse, you used a condom. They provide very effective protection. Make sure you continue to use one everytime without exception.

As for your symptoms, they are something to discuss with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV.

Whatever your reasons for being upset about having had the sexual incident is something for you to sort out personally. This is not an HIV situation. Period. And no testing is necessary over it.
