I was diagnosed AIDS 7 years ago
« on: December 06, 2008, 10:10:19 AM »
I went from a mis-diagnosis right to AIDS! The local hospital originally misdiagnosed me because I did not fir their profile of HIV/AIDS. I was hetero, never been an IV drug user, and was a married Man.(and NO, NEVER done the MSM thing).
When I was diagnosed, I had a CD4 of 0, and my VL was off the charts(the Hospital I was diagnosed in only goes to 75,000copies) Anyway, since then my marriage ended and I have been too afraid to share my diagnosis with anyone to even attempt a relationship. I live in a very rural and close-minded part of upstate NY. I can't imagine living with this disease in a more narrow minded area(IF there are such places!) A large reason for the narrow view of who has this disease is the fact that there is a max. security prison in this town. (and no, I was actually in Law Enforcement for several years, never incarcerated).
The reason I am posting is... are their any with similar stories? I have felt so isolated, and lonely! even my children are only occasional visitors!(usually when they want $$) I hope that I get some responses! I am curious to know whether I am unusual in my circumstance, or just a member of the quiet minority?

                        Thanks for your response!

Hi dave,
Welcome to the foums. i hope you will find this place as warm and comforting as I. if you mean other similar stories by meaning that you are hetero, then you are in luck, as there are plenty of hetero men here.(women too....like me) There are also a plethora of folks from small towns and isolated, back water, bible belt places as well.
You don't have to feel alone. You don't have to isolate yourself.
There's gonna be a bunch of us getting together in Boston next summer, maybe you'd like to come meet some of us, and not feel so isolated.
I hope you stick around for a while, these are really great folks.
Welcom again.........Lisa

Hey Dave -- just wanted to welcome you to our forums.  Glad you found us.

You're not alone, as you'll find quickly if you keep posting here.  As Lisa said, we have lots of members here who are in similar circumstances as yours.

By the way, did you start treatment?  How's it going?

Welcome, Dave!
I know it feels like you are alone but there are definately others like you out there, maybe not in your direct area, but around.
I went to school in upper state NY and especially in the winter, it can feel isolating but you can always reach out here.
Have you told your children yet?
Keep in touch,
Snow

Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forums.  One of the neat things about the forums is that there are people from all over the world who participate.
Don't obsess over the wrong things.  Life isn't about your numbers, it isn't about this forum, it isn't about someone's opinion.  It's about getting out there and enjoying it.   I am a person with HIV - not the other way around.
