Palin Backs Federal Gay Marriage Ban
« on: October 26, 2008, 11:57:03 AM »
Oh, how I despise this woman.

October 20, 2008

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

Palin and McCain disagree on a federal gay marriage ban.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) — Add one more policy item to the list of things John McCain and Sarah Palin disagree on.

Palin told CBN’s David Brody over the weekend that she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a proposal John McCain voted against in 2004. McCain believes the matter should be left to the states.

Brody asked Palin if she supports “something like” an amendment banning gay marriage.

“I am,” Palin said. “In my own, state, I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that's where we would go because I don't support gay marriage.

“I'm not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can't do, should and should not do,” she said. “But I certainly can express my own opinion here and take actions that I believe would be best for traditional marriage and that's casting my votes and speaking up for traditional marriage that, that instrument that it's the foundation of our society is that strong family and that's based on that traditional definition of marriage, so I do support that.”

McCain and Palin disagree on a number of issues, including stem cell research, whether or not global warming is man-made, and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

In the past, McCain has joked away any policy differences between the two running mates.

“By the way, you may figure out from time to time, Sarah and I don’t agree on every issue,” McCain said at a joint town hall last month in Michigan. “What do you expect of two mavericks, to agree on everything? Eh?”

the two don't even agree on major, basic issues that divide voters.  WTF was anybody thinking when she was chosen as a running mate ('cept to help capture the extreme conservative voters)?

I only pray that on November 5, McPain and Palin will become a small blip in the political history of this country, right along with John Anderson.

There is a bigger issue here that a lot of people, both supporters and detractors alike either haven't or don't want to notice. In wanting to push for a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman only, for the first time in the history of the US, the Constitution would be used to take rights away from US citizens, rather than protect them. A dangerous precedent indeed......
What really amazes me is that the right wingers consider themselves to be the guardians and protectors of the Constitution, yet they can come up with shit like this and delude themselves into thinking that they're doing everyone a favor.

Obama does not agree with same sex marriage either. He stated that marriage is between one man and one woman.

True enough, but this thread is about Palin's support for a Constitutional amendment declaring this so.  Neither McCain or Obama are are supportive of enshrining discrimination into the US Constitution.

I don't despise her, but she had been on the record supporting an ammendment for awhile. It was the first thing I learned that turned me off from her (and when all the far-right evangelists staring jumping for joy over her).

I have to agree national Democrats are no "mavericks" when it comes to the marriage issue. Personally it's not my top priority when voting (or I'd have no one to vote for).

Palin will be hosting a FOX news show soon...she won't be VP.

Exactly.  In addition, on the issue of amending STATE constitutions to ban gay marriage, Obama has clearly stated he is against all attempts to do this in state constitutions, and both McCain and Palin have voiced support for some of these attempts, specifically California's Prop 8.

I don’t get people. How some rally and jump for joy over Palin.
Its like, and excuse me, watching the old Hitler rallies on the history
channel. Blind devotion. If Hillary had been that much of an air head of a lady,
Rush, Fox news and all the other wing nuts would have had a field day cutting her down.
But because she's a republican, they praise her. Go figure.
Hopefully she will be on the history channel, as history, come next week.

Actually the hypocrisy that has me incredulous is that the conservatives are giving her a pass on having an unwed, pregnant teenager daughter. Can you imagine if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant as a teen? The Republicans would have NEVER let that go. Instead they are applauding Palin for not killing the fetus?!? Amazing.

Never mind Hillary's doughter Chelsea. I can hear what the hypocritical motherf#%ckers would be saying if it were one of Obamas daughters (assuming they were old enough) They would be having a field day with this "proof'' that minorities have a problem with the concept of birth control and family planning. The really amazing thing here though, is that I have yet to hear of any of these ass clowns even mention the obvious failure of Abstinence Only education. Let alone that the distinguished and oh-so-cute Ms. Palin, has, as the Governor of Alaska reduced the funding for pregnant teens by almost half. Now I hear her blathering on about Special Needs children, yet she doesn't seem willing to acknowledge that McCain has consistently voted against increasing special needs funding. I get the impression that they seem to think that special needs kids are only good for whoring out to the media for sympathy and photo-ops.
