Starting Viramune today... WISH ME LUCK please...
« on: September 22, 2008, 01:42:12 PM »
Hi all.

Today starts a new journey with Viramune. After having two years long relationship with Boosted Reyataz combo, I am starting Viramune. My new doc seems to be all in support of this decision. Hopefully, I won't get any nasty side effects from it. I am nervous, but hopefully all goes well.

I am sure you will do just fine. I think I had said before (can't remember) that I am on Viramune and have not had any side effects except for the very beginning I got a little woozy about an hour after taking it but that subsided after a few weeks. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Good luck with the Viramune.

I have never taken it, so I can't say what to expect, but I hope the switch is uneventful.

HUGS,

ok, so its been two days since combining one viramune with rest of my previous combo. I am not sure if this is side effect of viramune, but I am feeling bit panicky and anxious and I feel like I am not quite awake even though I got full sleep last night and etc.... maybe its just me or it could be the Viramune.

Vegas,,,  Viramune didn't cause any psychiatric side effects at all?

Desertguy,,,, how are you doing on your second day on it? notice anything slightly different?

Anyone felt wired as if you were on Benedryl kind of being wired....

Nope, definitely didn't cause any psychiatric side effects for me.  Everyone is of course different, and the meds affect us all differently, but I haven't seen any suggestion that Viramune has any notable psychiatric side effects for most people.

Good luck with the Viramune. As of this date next month, been on it for 5 years, and so far doing ok, most of the time !! Issues here and there, but most likely not related to Viramune !

Take care----Ray
Current Meds ; Viramune, Epzicom, 40mg of simvastatin, 12.5mg of Hydrochlorothiazide.
Metoprolol tartrate 25mg

The Atripla contains sustiva which is the main culprit in anxiety issues on that regimen which the Viramune/Reyataz does not contain.

I'm not certain how long it takes for the sustiva to clear your system but that could be a component of why you still feel some slight mental disorientation.

Monitor yourself and if the anxiety levels increase then speak with your doctor.

I definitely felt "weird" on it for a few weeks. It was like I was tired but not to the point where I was knocked out. It altered my state of mind I guess, but it went away after my body adjusted to it, of course after the first two weeks of taking just one pill then adding a second dose it increased slightly for another week or so but tapered off. From time to time I do get extrememly zonked after taking the doses but that may not be the viramune, but rather general fatigue. Personally I am very pleased with viramune. No diarrhea, nausea, gas or anything. My bowels haven't been this normal in 10+ yrs. I must say that I do have the occasional liver pain, but that could be in my head since I am aware of the possible damage, especially for me since I am a woman and my cd4 was high, which raises the risk for damage, but so far my liver enzymes have been normal. I go to day for my lab results so we will see if it is still doing it's job.
