VIN and HRT
« on: September 15, 2008, 08:51:42 am »
 ???

P, here.
I'm 49 and perimenopausal. I don't know wether to go on HRT or not. My HIV specialist (she) has advised against it, due to side effects. Obviously, it's down to me in the end. Has anyone else recieved this advice? My symptoms are mild to moderate most of the time.... at the mo. So I'm thinking of the future. (not that I'm wanting to take any more pills...!)

Also, I was treated for vulval version of CIN. It was excised and treated, but no one outside of my gyne dermatologist and HIV dr seem to know anything about it, it's caused by the HPV . I'm told it is becoming common amongst poz women.

I lok forward to your replies,

kind regards
P

I am post-menopausal and will tell you from experience and anecdotal info from other women, don't take it. The same OB/GYN who initially prescribed it for me ( and I took with for a while) was the same woman who then retracted her advice based on research findings. I took myself off of it before she advised me because of the physio/psychological effects I felt resulted. One of the primary impacts found was its link to breast cancer.

As to your cervical question, I cannot answer from personal experience but know that there are correlations between increased cervical risks for HIV positive women. My cervix was taken out as part of a hysterectomy many years ago. I'm sure you know your best defense is a regular Pap test.

Thank you Em,
I appreciate you getting back to me. The VIN is vulval rather than cervical, I've never had a postive smear test (pap)... yet! aia supose I have to be up to date with my information so I can make up my own mind.
Regards
P
